The Pursuit of Happiness ach of us is a paradox, complex in our thoughts and actions but simple in our basic needs and desires. That’s why I’m always interested in research that gives us some insight about ourselves.

Recently, American Express and the Harrison Group, a marketing and research firm, jointly published Affluence and Wealth in America, an annual survey of the attitudes and habits of high-income households—representing less than 10 percent of the American population but accounting for half of all retail purchases. After reviewing some of the results, I’m feeling rather optimistic.

The economic numbers are promising. Luxury spending is expected to grow by $28 billion this year, led by purchases of automobiles, clothing, travel and personal services, with quality, craftsmanship and brand loyalty driving decisions more than ever. And considering there are more affluent households than last year, one survey executive said he expects “a pretty good Christmas” for retailers this year. (By the way, the survey also reinforces the well-established fact that magazines are the best way for retailers to reach affluent people. Some 80 percent of the respondents make time to read magazines, even if the same information is available elsewhere, and 69 percent say they pay more attention to print advertising than other media.)

Another finding, however, is what really resonates: Affluent Americans are much happier now than three years ago, supported by strong family and personal relationships.

No doubt this has been influenced by uncertain times, but happiness is being measured more with personal interactions than anything else these days.

Seventy-one percent say they’re satisfied with their relationships (up from 40 percent in 2007), and 76 percent say they consider their private lives to be “successful” (up from 45 percent). Perhaps most telling, 83 percent say they eat dinner with their family at least four times a week—up from 16 percent. That may explain why 64 percent consider themselves better communicators with their children and spouses.

“Happiness is now the abiding object of affluent American life,” as one survey executive put it, and I hope that’s true. Certainly, there’s always room for happiness to grow, but since optimism is among the best of our complex human traits, I see the survey findings in a very positive light. While our personal circumstances enable us to acquire the luxuries that allow us to enjoy life at its best, it seems we’re now finding some balance in our lives as well.

More to Love very year, the season seems to kick off earlier and earlier. September is becoming the social season’s unofficial start, with a host of parties and fashionable events on the calendar.

We also visit Liezl Els, wife of golfer Ernie Els, at their Jupiter home for a ladies’ tea party to benefit autism programs. Liezl and Ernie’s son, Ben, is autistic, so the couple has devoted an enormous amount of time and resources to autism research and programming for children on the autism spectrum. Liezl’s tea was as elegant as it was purposeful, which is evident in our feature, “Tea for a Cause,” on page 60.

v CAMILO VILLEGAS Camilo Villegas has enjoyed success at all golf levels, including on the PGA and European tours.

Originally from Colombia, Villegas graduated from the University of Florida with a business degree and turned pro in 2004. The Jupiter resident captured his third PGA Tour title this past March, winning the 2010 Honda Classic. Villegas’ score (72) was the lowest at Honda since the tournament moved to PGA National in 2007.

■ DO YOU PLAY OTHER OUTDOOR SPORTS? My favorite thing to do while I’m home during off weeks is ride my bike. It’s a passion of mine and has been for the last few years. Jupiter Island is a great place to ride, as is my home country, Colombia, due to the hilly terrain.

Sabrage, the sabering of the Champagne, is a centuries-old tradition that is thrilling to watch anytime, anywhere. But in this context—in a hotel whose history is interwoven with Washington politics—it is particularly so. The St. Regis, located two blocks away from the White House, began life as the Carlton Hotel in 1926. In its heyday, the hotel was a favorite of several presidents, including Harry Truman, who famously received official guests there. After changing ownership and reopening under the St. Regis flag in 1999, the hotel remained true to its roots. It has been visited by every American president since Calvin Coolidge and, to this day, is preferred by visiting diplomats, royalty and heads of state.

If it is available (more often than not, it’s booked by dignitaries), the accommodation of choice is the Presidential Suite. More like an apartment than a hotel suite, the 2,510square-foot space caters to people who appreciate luxury and require privacy. The suite has two entrances—the main one, which leads to a huge foyer with dramatic Oriental motifs, and the side one leading to the dining room, which comes in handy if one is planning a formal dinner, or making a stealthy exit. Both have been known to happen.

As would befit a space used by presidents and celebrities (Mick Jagger and Tom Cruise are among the guests), the Presiden-

tial Suite is a study in restrained elegance.

The living room is designed for entertaining, with several seating vignettes, two fireplaces and massive windows admitting views of the city. The master bedroom connects to a wood-paneled library that functions equally well as a study or family room. A neutral color scheme punctuated by accents of tobacco and navy blue, and a host of gorgeous, luxe fabrics, make it easy to linger, especially when a personal butler is a phone call away.

Butler service has made the St. Regis famous, and rightly so. The butlers are there to serve, no matter how small the request.

Unpacking? Done. Pre-arrival stocking of the kitchen? No problem whatsoever. Coffee in the morning? You don’t even have to ask.

The location and the heritage have long been the main reasons for visiting the St. Regis, but recently another incentive was added to the mix. Adour, a restaurant by the eminent French chef Alain Ducasse, has been shaking things up in the Washington culinary scene. With David Rockwell’s modern decor featuring ecru leather, polished chrome and floor-to-ceiling wine cases, Adour has become an It spot among the local political elite and power brokers (the people-watching is stellar at breakfast). That’s due in large part to the privacy factor: The restaurant has three dining

alcoves and a private dining room that seats 14, so important guests—among them, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and former President Bill Clinton—can always dine away from prying eyes.

The menu at Adour is classified as modern French, and features dishes like lobster Newburg, duck breast with lavender honey and dry-aged Black Angus beef. The newest addition to the menu is the muchtouted cookpot, which can best be described as haute vegetarian. Seasonal veg-

etables are cooked in a curvy porcelain pot, custom created for Ducasse by Pillivuyt, with intriguing seasonings and sauces.

Elevating the humble vegetable is in step with Ducasse’s culinary philosophy, which revolves around respecting the earth and all its gifts.

FLYING SCOTSMAN

Two days. Three Scottish castles. One grand tour in Bentley’s sensational new Mulsanne flagship. BY HOWARD WALKER The 10th Duke of Roxburghe is off tending to his trout when our new Bentley Mulsanne wafts majestically along the crunchy gravel driveway toward Floors Castle, the fairy-tale 200-room Scottish pile that the 10th Duke calls home.

We’ve come for lunch. Smokey Scottish salmon for starters, grilled scallops served over a curry rice for the entrée, and fresh berries and soupy ice cream for dessert. Nothing short of pyrotechnics for the palate.

Built way back in 1721, Floors sits on 60,000 rolling acres on the outskirts of Kelso, a couple of hours south of Edinburgh. It’s here where Prince Andrew went down on bended knee and proposed to a rosy-cheeked Sarah Ferguson while they were weekend guests of the Duke.

Floors is the second stop on our two-day grand tour of the Scottish borders. Earlier this morning, for coffee and a muffin, we had squeezed the Bentley’s considerable girth through the pinch-tight portcullis of dark, satanic, eleventh-century Bamburgh Castle on the bleak Northumberland coast.

And tonight, we’ll luxuriate at the breathtaking Archerfield House—its roots date back to 1298—overlooking the Firth of Forth estuary, staying in one of the 12 exquisite, newly restored suites, and dining on a Buick-sized slab of finest Aberdeen Angus.

A grand tour indeed, in a car that defines the term “grand tourer”—massively powerful, artisan-built, and capable of transporting a party of four in total hedonistic comfort.

The 2011 Mulsanne is Bentley’s new masterpiece. Replacing the 44

aging yet still rakishly elegant Arnage, it actually is the first car to be totally designed and engineered by Bentley Motors in 80 years.

Everything else was either adapted from a Rolls-Royce or, as in the case with the latest Continentals, a Volkswagen Phaeton.

Photography can’t capture the sheer gorgeousness of this new Bentley flagship. You could land a helicopter on its hood, it’s so long.

And the way the roofline cascades down into the trunk, the way the beltline swoops over the rear wheels, is pure candy for the eyes.

When you’re handing over $285,000 you really do want your car to stand out from the crowd. And one look at that massive slice ’n dice honeycomb mesh grille, those giant pizza-sized headlights and massive 20-inch wheels, you instinctively know that this is much more than mere transportation.

Slip inside and give thanks to the herd of cattle and small California woodland that gave it up to be part of the Mulsanne’s fabulous cabin. The wood veneer that lines the interior takes five

entire weeks to turn from rough root ball into a full set of mirror-matched, fine-polished panels. Just hand-stitching the leather that wraps the Mulsanne’s steering wheel takes a painstaking 15 hours.

While to drive it is to adore it, there is something so overwhelmingly hedonistic about sitting in the reclining rear seat, slipping off your Cole Haans and watching your feet disappear into the deep-pile wool carpets, and then cranking up the ear-bleeding 2,200-watt, 20-speaker custom-made Naim audio system.

On Scotland’s fast, surprisingly traffic-free highways and byways, the new Mulsanne morphs into the true Flying Scotsman. Providing the locomotive-like power is a new 6.75liter twin-turbocharged V-8 gushing out 505 horsepower and an unthinkable 752 pound-feet of torque. Peterbilt trucks don’t have this kind of muscle.

It’s more than sufficient to lunge the car from standstill to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds and punch it onwards to a top speed of 184 mph. Yet like being in a Gulfstream G5 on takeoff, the sensation is one of rapidly increasing velocity rather than brutal acceleration.

And for its size and bulk—it tips the scales at more than 5,700 pounds—this new Bentley is as agile as Serena Williams at the base line. Computer-controlled air suspension, with a choice of three different stiffness settings, keeps the body level through the curves and dive-free under hard braking.

While to my mind the Mulsanne has no true, direct rival, its price and luxury dictates that Rolls-Royce sits squarely in its cross hairs. And pricewise, the Bentley occupies that rarefied space between the leviathan-like Phantom and the new Ghost.

To choose between the three would be a challenge worthy of Mission: Impossible. But after our Scottish grand tour, after feeling the turbine-like thrust of its big V-8, after luxuriating in its handcrafted cabin, we have determined that the Mulsanne has, like the Duke of Roxburghe, a true nobility. ◆

Some people know exactly what they want and refuse to settle for anything less. Rick and Pat Howard evoke this imagery when telling the tale of their search for a contemporary home in Boca Raton.

After months of house hunting, the Howards temporarily settled into a townhome to focus on their new business, Sklar Furnishings, a modern and contemporary retail and design store, while still searching for their dream home. “We were at the end of the rope and thinking we’re going to have to buy something and tear it down and rebuild,” says Rick, who founded Sklar in 2002. “We didn’t have the time to do that, frankly. And there it was.”

Three years ago, Rick was driving home and spotted a new “for sale” sign in the neighborhood. The home was a mere four blocks away from their business, and it met their requirements—it was contemporary and on the water. There was no need even to enlist the aid of architects, because the 3,800-square-foot gem already was perfect.

“The pull to the contemporary home is the cleanliness, the light quality and the way it flows. It’s a different way of living than a traditional home,” says Rick.

“And there’s no better way to see South Florida than to get out on the boat on the Intracoastal,” adds Pat, who plays hostess year-round to friends and family.

Originally from Toronto, Rick and Pat moved to the United States in 1994 after selling their furniture manufacturing com56

pany. They launched a packaging business in Charlotte, North Carolina, and sold it in 2000, retiring to the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. “I retired for a little while and flunked that, and decided to open another business [Sklar Furnishings in Boca Raton],” says Rick.

Searching for their home may have taken them a few years, but Rick and Pat, who are on the same wavelength stylistically, were able to move quickly on decorating it.

The living room boasts a 180-degree view of the Intracoastal and pool, thanks to the floor-toceiling windows.

“Consider the store as a 23,000-square-foot house, and the scenes change weekly,” says Rick. “For us, decorating wasn’t the complicated thing it is for some people. We do the merchandising at the store so we collaborate all of the time.” It took the couple about four months to decorate, using items they already owned, as well as their favorite sculptures, architectural-type vases and long, lean and low sofas, all from Sklar.

Naturally, the Howards’ collection of

colorful abstract canvases is at home on the gallery-white walls. “When you are working with a contemporary environment, it tends to be a gallery-type of setting. Rather than paint this wall blue and this wall yellow, our color comes from the accessories and the art,” explains Rick.

“That’s by design, of course.”

The home allows the couple to fully enjoy the concept of indoor and outdoor living. Open spaces, connections between rooms and to the outdoors change the perception. “I’ve always loved living inside, outside,” says Rick. “You do that very well with contemporary houses, because there’s a lot of glass. You get to enjoy nature and whatever is around you.”

The floor-to-ceiling windows allow for an almost 180-degree view of their pool and the Intracoastal Waterway. That view, along with the transcendent light that the pool and Intracoastal reflect throughout the home, is a major decorative element. The entry of constantly changing light into the home is controlled by an electronic fabric shade; Rick plans to put an energy-saving coating on the glass to reduce the heat gain.

Whether the couple is entertaining family or business reps, the home works well for any crowd. The space, particularly the dining and living rooms and kitchen, is flexible and has a nice flow, which comes in handy when entertaining. “This is a wonderful space to live in for either two people or for when our family comes home and [occupancy] stretches to eight people. The house absorbs people beautifully,” says Pat. “I’m not sure everyone could live here, but everyone likes to visit.” u

Even the threat of storms could not stop the ladies who lunch as they made their way to the wilds of Jupiter, where Liezl Els had transformed her backyard into an African safari complete with billowy white tents and African drummers.

Liezl, wife of PGA star Ernie Els, held her second annual Liezl’s Tea Party March 11 to raise money for Els for Autism, which the couple formed in 2009, and the Els Center of Excellence. Their son, Ben, 7, is autistic, and started at the Renaissance Learning

Center in West Palm Beach when the family, which includes daughter Samantha, moved to Jupiter. According to Liezl, parents at the school had formed the Autism Project of Palm Beach County with the vision of a larger center, but didn’t have the fundraising clout to make it happen. “Ernie and I took over that vision, expanded it with the help of a variety of experts to help children all over the world, and set about making it happen,” she says.

Their plan is to build a center in Palm Beach County with a major digital learning program that will have a global impact. The center also will include

an academic village with a school, medical facilities and services to help graduates find jobs and transition into adulthood.

“Our goal is to set the standard of what should be available to those on the autism spectrum, and to extend the reach of best practices globally,” Liezl says.

Liezl held her first fundraising tea party in 2009. “We’d just moved to Jupiter after a decade in London,” she says.

“Tea parties there are a way of life and I thought it would be fun and different to take people around the world.”

A crowd quickly gathered around the raffle area, where ladies dropped their tickets into baskets in an attempt to win prizes, including food baskets from Carmine’s, golf foursomes

chicken, shrimp and beef skewers; a seafood and sausage paella served with a spicy saffron broth and rice; and freshly sliced eye of the round with a mustard aioli, capers and olive oil.

Dessert brought the most delight. Huge cupcakes in a variety of flavors from The Cake Kingdom in Tequesta were delivered to each table. Requests were soon being called out to passing waiters for seconds and thirds, as everyone at the table wanted to sample all of the available flavors.

While guests were enjoying the sugar rush, Liezl took center stage with Ben to thank everyone for coming and helping to raise money to build the center. “You all put bricks into it by coming here,” she told the ladies, fighting back tears. Then the fun really started as she began pulling

out tickets for the raffle prizes. Shrieks could be heard across the lawn as each winner’s number was called.

“The first year, the foundation had only been in existence for two months,” Liezl says. “We had hopes and aspirations but no solid game plan. Through the course of this past year, as we debuted the Center of Excellence project with a solid business plan, the whole community began to get excited. Our attendance this year was up, the money we raised was substantial and we believe the final result will be a change in the conversation about what should be available to those on the autism spectrum.”

Almost 200 women attended Liezl’s Tea Party, and helped raise more than $100,000 for Els for Autism and the Els Center of Excellence. All of the money raised will go toward the center, whose groundbreaking is expected in 2011. The couple also holds national and international fundraising events throughout the year, including pro-am and celebrity-am golf tournaments. Next year’s tea party is scheduled for March 10, with a Chinese theme. u

While beer sales in the United States have declined slightly over the past year, the popularity of craft brews continues to increase. Craft-brewed beer may account for only 5 percent of the domestic beer market, but the category has achieved double-digit growth for most of the past decade.

The Brewers Association, an advocacy group, includes regional craft breweries, contract brewers, microbreweries and brewpubs in the craft beer total. Nearly 50 craft brewers are located in Florida. The immediate area includes both brewpubs (the Corner Café and Brewery in Tequesta and Brewzzi of Boca Raton and West Palm Beach), as well as a number of contract brewers.

Some of the craft brews produced in America are as exotic, upscale and expensive as anything found in the world of wine and spirits. Michigan’s Jolly Pumpkin charges around $10 for a 750 ml bottle (the

same size as a standard bottle of wine). The rare, hard to find products from Lost Abbey in California are in the same price range.

Dogfish Head, located in Delaware, will set you back $10-$20 per 12 ounce bottle.

America’s most expensive and celebrated beer is made by none other than Samuel Adams. Their limited-release Utopias boasts a whopping 27-percent alcohol by volume, double that of most table wines.

Utopias is not carbonated, and the brewery recommends serving it at room temperature in order to appreciate the range of complex flavors it offers. The price? $150 for 24 ounces on release, but it can climb to two or three times as much on the resale market. Even Utopias pales by comparison to the world’s most expensive beer—La Vieille Bon-Secours, brewed in Belgium, almost impossible to find, and rumored to cost as much as $1,000 for a 2-liter bottle.

Located on the southern tip of Jupiter Island, at the foot of the Indiantown Road Bridge, the decor of the Jupiter Island Grill pays homage to Old Florida. There are exposed beams, wooden shutters, paddle fans and a stained wooden floor. Half the room is a dining area containing a combination of booths and well-spaced tables. The other half is a lively bar, packed with locals and likely to offer standing room only on weekends.

The excellent food is the work of Executive Chef Michael Rolchigo, who has been at the stove since the restaurant’s opening in January 2009. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and veteran of New York’s Gramercy Tavern, Rolchigo is creative without going over the edge. He combines elements of Italian country cooking, Asian cuisine and the heritage of the American South into an unlikely but harmonious whole.

Dinner begins with slices of baked pita bread, garnished with dishes of garlicky chopped tomato and homemade hummus. Try a bowl of the Tomato Seafood Chowder ($5 cup, $7 bowl), packed with fresh, ripe tomatoes and pieces of shrimp, scallops, crab and clams, enhanced by fresh herbs and a touch of sherry. On a recent visit, Pear Purses ($13) were offered as an appetizer. Filled with an enticing mix of sweet pear and sharp Gorgonzola cheese, they are bathed in a satisfying cream sauce studded with chunks of walnut and melted Gorgonzola.

Entrées include pan-roasted diver scallops with wild mushroom risotto and butternut squash velouté ($26). The scallops are plump and sweet, the risotto is laced with Asiago and truffle oil, and the butternut squash provides an earthy framework for

On Saturday nights, and by reservation only, Paris Bakery & Café becomes Paris Crêperie, featuring a full menu of savory crêpes and delicious desserts. Owners Andrea and Didier Martin have broken down the menu into La Crêpe du Boucher (Butcher’s Crêpe), La Crêpe du Jardinier (Gardener’s Crêpe) and La Crêpe du Pêcheur (Fisherman’s Crêpe). We like the Brittany, which features chicken, spinach and mushrooms with béchamel sauce, and the Turino with sautéed shrimp, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, and, of course, béchamel. Save room for dessert—the Crêpe Belle Hélène is a delicious treat with preserved pears, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and almonds. Or, if you are “crêped out,” try the Fraises Romanov, fresh strawberries tossed with heavy cream and Grand Marnier. There also is live music, a mix of a classic/romantic performed by Andrea and Didier’s son Sandro, and Alison, one of the waitresses. It’s all such a delicious treat for the senses that we can put off that trip to Paris just a little while longer.

POWER LUNCH JADE KITCHEN Tucked away in West Palm Beach’s Northwood Village is a true gem of a restaurant. Though the name suggests an Asian feel, Jade Kitchen is in a category all its own. The menu changes frequently and features some interesting dishes, including crispy chicken livers with bitter greens, and shrimp with tomato, feta and

ouzo flambé. (Just our luck, though, they were out of the calves’ brains.)

A recent lunch started out with an amuse-bouche from the chef of hot corn fritters with green tomato mayonnaise— ah, the guilty pleasure of really good fried food—and cool melon balls in a lime juice, mint and hot pepper infusion. Both were unique and delicious.

We chose the corn chowder as our starter, which was delivered to the table by a tween on rollerblades, who zipped around with the ease of a seasoned carhop. Rich enough to be a meal on its own, the soup was full of corn and potatoes with a hint of bacon.

After the fritters and soup, we decided to pick our main meal from the appetizer section of the menu. What was listed as yellowtail tuna taquitos was actually three mini hard-shell tacos filled with fresh sushi-grade tuna, avocado and fresh herbs—a bit messy, but quite tasty. The appetizer portion of the ricotta gnocchi was big enough for a full meal. The handmade gnocchi were soft and light, not at all doughy the way a potato gnocchi might be. Served in a creamy pesto sauce, the dish was more than satisfying.

We ended our Jade experience with the crunchy churros and chocolate dessert, perfect for sharing or tackling on your own. The same dough used to make the gnocchi is lightly fried, then sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Served piping hot with a thick Valrhona chocolate sauce in an espresso cup, it’s surprisingly light for such a sinful treat. TEE TIME Golf lovers, take a break from the greens to pay tribute to influential African-Americans at PGA Village’s PGA Historical Center in Port St. Lucie.

The African-American Pioneers Exhibit honors golfers, including Ted Rhodes, John Shippen and Bill Spiller, who pushed for equal treatment of all players and encouraged diversity in golf. During their professional careers, these golf greats were denied the opportunity to become PGA members because of the PGA’s 1934-1961 “Caucasian-only clause.” The PGA bestowed posthumous membership to them at its annual meeting in New Orleans last fall.

“It is vital that we show the depth and breadth of the important contributions to the game and sport of golf that African-American golfers made in the history of golf,” says PGA Village General Manager Bob Baldassari. “Today’s generation—kids and adults alike—need to reflect on the amazing accomplishments that these men and women made to make golf a better game.”

A first for the golf museum, which opened in 2002, are the interactive audio-video displays and touch screens in the exhibit. Videos honor AfricanAmerican trailblazers in the sport, including world heavyweight boxing champion Joseph Louis Barrow, who broke the color barrier by appearing under a sponsor’s exemption in a 1952 PGA event. “It’s a great compliment to these black pioneers when visitors to the PGA Historical Center learn of the vast array of contributions since the turn of the last century,” adds Baldassari.

The center houses the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame and temporary exhibitions such as September’s Ryder Cup exhibit. On Sept. 4-6, the center celebrates Patriot Golf Day, a fundraiser benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation and featuring a parade, tournament and exhibit honoring military veterans and how golf clubs raise military awareness.

The center also is home to golf artifacts and memorabilia such as legendary course architect Donald Ross’ original workbench, the sixteenth-century (oldest known) written menPGA Historical tion of the sport, and the four Center in major Championship trophies.

Port St. Lucie The Probst Library, containing thousands of resource books, handbooks and yearbooks, has a white glove room for delicately viewing prized and rare items.

Don’t fool yourself… APPEARANCE MATTERS! THE PROCEDURE: “tummy tuck” – Bafitis Integrated Liposculpture Abdominoplasty (“BILA”)

By Dr. Harold Bafitis Appearance Does Matter! They say that your eyes are the window to your soul, but what about your tummy and torso?

Nothing is as bad, and negative to your overall appearance and ego, than an out-of-proportion torso and lower abdomen. Other people are unfortunately drawn to the defect rather than to the inner beauty of the individual.

Compounding this problem is usually an inability to keep your abdomen flat, especially after a full meal. A lower abdominal bulge that will not go away, even after endless sit-ups. There is usually loose skin with significant stretch marks, especially after pregnancy or previous surgery. Often there is excess fat in the flanks and back. Even a compounding abdominal incisional hernia can be part of this “tummy” experience so common to women – even showing up in men. Often the gluteal area has lost its fullness; and now there is a “flat bottom” with a full rounded tummy!

WHY CIRCUMFERENTIAL TIGHTENING WORKS Usually removing loose skin alone cannot solve the problems stated above. To achieve results as seen in these dramatic preop and postop photos, newer and advanced, integrated procedures are employed. Often a “beer belly” as seen above can be completely corrected in a special modified surgery. Often, tightening abdominal muscles will provide internal support that will last a lifetime. This can be achieved by correcting any hernias that are present, as well as lipoplasty of the anterior and posterior hip rolls, low back and the entire abdomen. The circumferential contouring can create a dramatic improvement. The last step will be creating a more natural oval shape to the umbilicus (belly button) which will enhance a natural contour of the abdomen. With new fat grafting techniques, a fuller, more youthful gluteal (derriere) can be created that lasts!

CHALLENGES Dr. Bafitis has taken this surgery to a new level with his “BILA” procedure.

By combining liposculpture, fat grafting, circumferential tightening, and abdominoplasty, this procedure can now be done with only IV sedation, or in selected patients monitored “awake” sedation. Patients no longer have to be bent forward for weeks and have worries about excessive tension at the incision line. The patient is usually up and walking within a few days (24-48 hours). Drains are limited and often not necessary. The patients and results speak for themselves.

Don’t trust the most difficult cosmetic procedure to someone less than an expert in the field.
