RIVERSIDE YOUTH ENRICHMENT CENTER

For more than 20 years, Riverside Youth Enrichment Center has made learning fun. Our licensed childcare facility provides a nurturing environment where preschool children grow into lifelong learners. We focus on supporting the physical and intellectual development of preschoolers through a mix of child-initiated and teacherguided activities that spark curiosity. Our program helps children build their language, thinking, and motor skills, while our teachers nurture each child’s strong early foundation.

Here Fishy, Fishy! Join us this summer for the annual kids’ lakeside catch-and-release fishing tournament. Kids will compete by age group, with prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place and overall big fish. Anglers will need to bring their rod & reels; bait will be provided. *A parent or guardian must attend.

An art in public places program that presents the work of artists year-round in ongoing exhibitions in City facilities. All exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public. Additional receptions may be announced at a later date. Applications are currently being accepted for all venues.

SWIM LESSON REGISTRATION

Palm Beach Gardens Residents will receive a two-week priority window for swim lesson registration before it opens to the public. This priority access will be available for every season of swim lessons, giving you the opportunity to secure spots early. The registration schedule is listed below.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Available for ages 3 years to adults. Each lesson is 25 minutes long and will pair one swimmer and one instructor. Semi-private lessons are possible, pairing two swimmers and one instructor. The instructor will work at the pace of the swimmer(s) to reach their individual goals, working towards water competency, technique, and water safety.

REFUND/MAKEUP POLICY

Refunds and rescheduling are not available due to personal reasons missed, classes will not be held under the minimum registration, and make-ups for weather cancellations (by the City) will take place on the weekday following the end of the session. Weekend makeups will be conducted following the end of the session. Sessions are complete with 8 classes of 50% of time taught (i.e.: 20 minutes of a level class, 15 minutes of private/preschool)

HELPFUL HINTS

• Classes may reach maximum capacity quickly. If your class is full, please allow us to put you on the waiting list. We will contact you as soon as possible if a spot becomes available.

• Swim lessons for individuals with varying abilities are available. Private lessons are also available for individuals wanting one on one instruction. Please contact us for more information.

• Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisite prior to the first day of the class they are registered for. Students unable to demonstrate competency of the level prerequisite may be unenrolled from the lesson. Accommodations for registering for the wrong level are not guaranteed.

PRESCHOOL SWIM CLASSES

One parent/adult will assist the child in developing water adjustment, games, and underwater exploration as led by an instructor. The child must wear a swim diaper.

GOALS: With support, glide on front 2 body lengths, then roll to back, and float for 3 seconds then recover to standing position. Comfortable submerging face.

PRESCHOOL 2 (2P)

PREREQUISITE: Jump in deep water, tread or float for 1 minute, and swim Front Crawl for 25 yards. Perform 15 yards of Front Crawl with rotary breathing and 15 yards of Back Crawl.

GOALS: Swimming 25 yards of Front Crawl, 25 yards of Backstroke, and 15 yards of Butterfly with precision.

LEVEL 4B: STROKE IMPROVEMENT

PREREQUISITE: Jump in deep water, tread or float for 1 minute, and swim Elementary Backstroke for 25 yards. Perform 15 yards of Breaststroke and 15 yards of Elementary Backstroke.

TEEN/ADULT SWIM CLASSES

Can they do a front and back float without assistance? Do they pay attention in class?

Do they know how to do front crawl arm strokes?

Can they do a front crawl 10 yards, take a breath, and continue swimming without stopping?

Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisites prior to the first day of the class they are registered for. Students unable to demonstrate competency of the level prerequisite may be unenrolled from the lesson. Accommodation for registering for the wrong level is not guaranteed.

Aquatics classes must have at least two participants. The Aquatics team will move registrants of classes that do not to another class, issue a refund, or find other accommodations.

MAKOS SWIM TEAM PREP

PREREQUISITE: Swim front crawl 25 yards with rotary breathing, backstroke 25 yards, and breaststroke 25 yards, and 15 yards of butterfly. Submerge and swim 3 to 5 body lengths underwater.

GOALS: Dive start entry using starting blocks and completing 25 yards in legal strokes for competitive swimming.

Dive into four action-packed practices each week where fun meets performance. The Makos combine the excitement of recreational swimming with friendly competition and lasting friendships.

LIFEGUARD

Candidates successfully completing the class will be certified in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must attend all classes.

PREREQUISITE: Must be able to complete a swim-treadswim sequence successfully: Swim 150 yards continuously using front crawl or breaststroke. After swimming 150 yards, tread for 2 minutes without the use of arms/hands. After maintaining position at the water’s surface for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards. Must be able to swim 20 yards, submerge and retrieve a 10lb brick, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Lower prerequisites can be applied to Shallow Water Lifeguards.

LIFEGUARD REVIEW

Candidates completing the class will be certified in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must attend all classes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Recognize specific characteristic behaviors of distressed swimmers and active and passive drowning victims; recognize aquatic emergencies and act promptly and appropriately; perform equipmentbased rescue skills and techniques used by professional lifeguards; recognize and care for possible spinal cord injuries; learn to provide first aid and CPR.

PREREQUISITE: Must be a currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguard or within the 30-day grace period of expiration. Must be able to complete all prerequisites of a Lifeguard upon arrival on the first day of class.

JR. LIFEGUARD CAMP

Join us for an exciting and educational Winter and Spring Break at Junior Lifeguard Camp! Learn the essential skills and techniques needed to succeed in the important role of a lifeguard. Throughout the week, you’ll build swimming endurance, practice life-saving rescue techniques, and learn basic CPR and First Aid. Being a lifeguard goes beyond the stand; it’s also about leadership and teamwork. You’ll build customer service skills, engage in team-building activities, gain confidence to handle reallife situations, and get hands-on practice with essential rescue equipment. By the end of camp, you’ll be familiar with rescue equipment, understand water safety, and even have the unique opportunity to shadow a lifeguard on duty! We can’t wait to see your junior lifeguard in action!

TRX Stretch & Balance for 55+

TRX class for 55+ is a low-impact, functional strength training workout designed to improve balance, flexibility, and overall mobility using suspension training. Led by a certified instructor, the class focuses on using the TRX suspension straps to perform gentle yet effective exercises that can be modified to suit all fitness levels. Participants will work on strengthening key muscle groups, improving posture, and enhancing core stability, all while reducing the risk of falls and improving joint health. WATERCOLOR BEGINNINGS

This course is an introduction into the exquisite medium of watercolor. This is a beginner’s class, so if you have never painted before, don’t worry! We will begin with some basic painting/drawing composition concepts and transition them to a finished painting. I will have a collection of reference photos to work from. Through observation, demonstration and experimentation, we will explore areas such as color theory, combining pigments and transparency which give watercolor its unique character. MASTERING GRADIENTS IN WATERCOLOR

These classes are an introduction to match play for young people with developing tennis skills. Players should be able to serve and rally with some consistency and keep score. ADULT ONE-DAY TOURNAMENTS

TENNIS WITH A LIMITED TIME COMMITMENT

A favorite of skilled players with limited time. People of various levels play, including some very strong competitors. Formats take ability level into account. Tournaments are held as singles and mixed. Singles are usually played as a ladder, with both women and men placed in the continuum according to ability for 3 matches in an abbreviated format. Our one-day mixed doubles tournaments are usually contested in ability-based multiround compass draws with 3 matches in an abbreviated format.

If you’ve got the basics down but are looking to take those skills to the next level, this is the class for you. Basics are reviewed briefly in each class. In addition, our instructors will work with you to add elements like speed, power, and accuracy to your game. Additional shots are taught, lob, volley, overhead. TENNIS FITNESS CLASSES

FRENZY is just that, continuous feeding and hitting in doubles formation as the pros conduct. Frenzies are very fast-paced and only recommended for stronger players (3.0 and above). If more than one court, pros will divide the group according to ability. Great for doubles tactics and fitness!

CARDIO can be a bit more instructional but is still a very active workout. It’s usually limited to one court with 12 players max. Especially recommended for those returning to the game.

ADAPTIVE TENNIS PROGRAMS

The Tennis & Pickleball Center adaptive programs have expanded to provide developmental opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. All these programs are conducted by professionals with specific training and experience in the field.

This is a friendly, helpful group with a limited number of loaner chairs available. It is the most gratifying thing that I have ever done.” This program is supported by a grant from the USTA Florida Foundation.

This program provides an enjoyable monthly occasion for the benefit of community members with special needs. Qualified tennis professionals direct the play – which is adapted to the individual abilities of the participants – helped by enthusiastic volunteers, usually with a oneto-one player-to-volunteer ratio. It is funded by the Frank Family in memory of their daughter/granddaughter/ sister, Jamie Alexa. The classes are FREE, but please preregister at jamiesangels2016@gmail.com. Please contact same email address for volunteer opportunities.

All programs take place at the Joseph R. Russo Athletic Complex (JRRAC).

NOTE: Due to specific events or holidays, there will be no pickleball programs Dec 25, Jan 1, and Feb 14-15.

ADULT OPEN PLAY PICKLEBALL OPTIONS

Open play is designed to allow players the opportunity to enjoy, meet others, and work on their game.

BEGINNER ORGANIZED OPEN PLAY is a great way for beginners to learn the game while playing; an instructor will be present to organize gameplay and provide instruction.

ORGANIZED OPEN PLAY features gameplay in a round-robin style format that facilitates play with and against others. A pickleball instructor is present to assign players to courts and coordinate play. These activities are offered at different skill levels to ensure a good time is had by all (2.5-2.9 & 3.0 and Above). These activities are not for beginners. Participants must know the rules and how to keep score. Free to Pickleball Passholders.

OPEN PLAY is meant for recreational purposes and to provide participants with an opportunity to develop and have fun at all skill levels. These Open Play sessions are unsupervised. Participants will be expected to follow general etiquette and paddle rotations for play and always show good sportsmanship. Free to Pickleball Passholders.

Consider the City’s outstanding parks for your next gathering! Our online rental page makes it easier than ever to review the options and immediately book or request a facility. PRIVATE INSTRUCTION IN CITY FACILITIES

The City of Palm Beach Gardens outdoor recreation facilities are public spaces and available for all to enjoy. Group use requires permitting via pbgfl.gov/rentals. Should you desire to give private instruction, please contact recrentals@pbgfl.gov to complete our licensing process. These activities could include private sport lessons and/or fitness instruction. For a listing of our registered private instructors, please email recrentals@ pbgfl.gov.

RESIDENT (R) AND NON-RESIDENT (NR) FEES

Most Recreation Department programs offer a resident and a non-resident fee. To be eligible for the discounted resident fees, a participant must reside within incorporated Palm Beach Gardens municipal limits and provide acceptable proof of residency. To check residency status, go to pbgfl. gov/recreation, click on Residency Check icon and enter the address. If your address does not appear, you will be charged non-resident fees.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

The City strongly encourages all participants to familiarize themselves with the online registration site prior to enrollment. Should you need assistance with your username or password, or encounter any problems with online registration, please call 561.630.1100. Acceptable forms of online payment include Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.
