For more than 20 years, Riverside Youth Enrichment Center has been making learning fun! Our licensed childcare facility offers a nurturing early education where children grow into lifelong learners. Our school was established to enhance physical and intellectual development in preschool-age children. Teachers use a combination of child initiated and teacher directed activities to promote curiosity and learning through fun-filled activities. Our program helps children learn how to use their developing language, thinking and motor skills. Our teachers help foster each child’s strong early foundation.

Join us for a shallow water workout! This class is designed to improve flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular endurance all while using the resistance of the water. Shallow water depths provide a cushion to the joints while still providing an awesome workout!

Can your child put their face in the water comfortably? Does your child pay attention in class?

Can your child glide with arms above their head in a streamlined position?

Can your child swim in forward progress for at least 3 body lengths?

Does your child combine arm and leg movements while swimming?

Can your child put their face in the water comfortably?

Can they do a front and back float without assistance? Do they pay attention in class?

Can they glide with arms above their head in a streamlined position?

Do they know how to do front crawl arm strokes?

Can they do a front crawl 10 yards, take a breath, and continue swimming without stopping?

Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisites prior to the first day of the class they are registered for. Students unable to demonstrate competency of the level prerequisite may be unenrolled from the lesson. Accommodation for registering for the wrong level is not guaranteed.

Aquatics classes must have at least two participants. The Aquatics team will move registrants of classes that do not to another class, issue a refund, or find other accommodations.

Still not sure what level? Join us at the Aquatic Complex Monday’s or Tuesday’s from 4:30-5:30pm for an evaluation.

Do they know the elementary backstroke and are comfortable being in deep water?

Can they swim 25 yards front crawl and elementary backstroke without stopping?

Do they swim freestyle, backstroke, and breastroke proficiently for 25 yards each? Do they swim butterfly for at least 15 yards?

REGISTRATION

Palm Beach Gardens Residents will receive a two-week priority window for swim lesson registration before it opens to the public. This priority access will be available for every season of swim lessons, giving you the opportunity to secure spots early. See schedule below.

CLASS SCHEDULES

PRIVATE LESSONS

Available for ages 3 years to adults. Each lesson is 25 minutes long and will pair one swimmer and one instructor. Semi-private lessons are possible, pairing two swimmers and one instructor. The instructor will work at the pace of the swimmer(s) to reach their individual goals, working towards water competency, technique, and water safety.

REFUND/MAKEUP POLICY

Refunds and rescheduling are not available due to personal reasons missed. Classes will not be held under the minimum registration requirement. Weekday makeups for weather cancellations (by the City) will take place on the Friday following the missed class. Weekend make-ups will be conducted following the end of the session. Sessions are complete with 8 classes of 50% of time taught (i.e.: 20 minutes of a level class, 15 minutes of private/preschool).

MAKOS SWIM TEAM PREP

PREREQUISITE: Swim front crawls 25 yards with rotary breathing, Backstroke 25 yards, and Breaststroke 25 yards, and 15 yards of Butterfly. Submerge and swim 3 to 5 body lengths underwater.

GOALS: Dive start entry using starting blocks and completing 25 yards in legal strokes for competitive swimming.

Dive into four action-packed practices each week where fun meets performance. The Makos combine the excitement of recreational swimming with friendly competition and lasting friendships.

LIFEGUARD

Candidates successfully completing the class will be certified in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must attend all classes.

PREREQUISITE: Must be able to complete a swim-treadswim sequence successfully: swim 150 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke or both; tread for 2 minutes without the use of arms/hands; immediately swim 50 more yards. Must be able to swim 20 yards, submerge and retrieve a 10lb brick, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Lower prerequisites can be applied to Shallow Water Lifeguards.

SAFETY AIDE TRAINING & VOLUNTEERING

LIFEGUARD REVIEW

Candidates who complete the class will be certified in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must attend all classes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Recognize specific characteristic behaviors of distressed swimmers and active and passive drowning victims; recognize aquatic emergencies and act promptly and appropriately; perform equipmentbased rescue skills and techniques used by professional lifeguards; recognize and care for possible spinal cord injuries; learn to provide first-aid and CPR.

PREREQUISITE: Must be a currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguard or within the 30-day grace period of expiration. Must be able to complete all prerequisites of a Lifeguard upon arrival on the first day of class.

This class is for certified lifeguards seeking advanced training and certification to train prospective lifeguards. Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.

PREREQUISITE: 25-yard front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, 15 yards butterfly, 1-minute tread, and back float. All strokes must be performed at a Level 4 skill level.

WATERCOLOR BEGINNINGS

This course is an introduction into the exquisite medium of watercolor. This is a beginner’s class, so if you have never painted before, don’t worry! We will begin with some basic painting/drawing composition concepts and transition them to a finished painting. I will have a collection of reference photos to work from, and we will also explore methods of drawing and different paint mediums such as oil, acrylic and how they differ from watercolor. CAMP GARDENS ACADEMY SPECIALTY CAMP

ADULT ONE-DAY TOURNAMENTS

TENNIS WITH A LIMITED TIME COMMITMENT

A favorite of skilled players with limited time. People of various levels play, including some very strong competitors. Formats take ability level into account. Tournaments are held as singles and mixed. Singles are usually played as a ladder, with both women and men placed in the continuum according to ability for 3 matches in an abbreviated format. Our one-day mixed doubles tournaments are usually contested in ability-based multiround compass draws with 3 matches in an abbreviated format.

ADVANCED BEGINNER TENNIS

For players beyond beginner level. Each session will work on fine-tuning basic skills and strokes. Serve and footwork will be instructed. “Live Ball” rallying between players is introduced.

INTERMEDIATE TENNIS

If you’ve got the basics down but are looking to take those skills to the next level, this is the class for you. Basics are reviewed briefly in each class. In addition, our instructors will work with you to add elements like speed, power, and accuracy to your game. Additional shots are taught, lob, volley, overhead. Instructors will also discuss gameplay strategies like court positioning, shot location, basic tactics, and “Live Ball” point play is incorporated.

FRENZY is just that, continuous feeding and hitting in doubles formation as the pros conduct. Frenzies are very fast-paced and only recommended for stronger players (3.0 and above). If more than one court, pros will divide the group according to ability. Great for doubles tactics and fitness!

CARDIO can be a bit more instructional but is still a very active workout. It’s usually limited to one court with 12 players max. Especially recommended for those returning to the game.

The Tennis & Pickleball Center adaptive programs have expanded to provide developmental opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. All of these programs are conducted by professionals with specific training and experience in the field.

This program provides an enjoyable monthly occasion for the benefit of community members with special needs. Qualified tennis professionals direct the play – which is adapted to the individual abilities of the participants – helped by enthusiastic volunteers, usually with a oneto-one player-to-volunteer ratio. It is funded by the Frank Family in memory of their daughter/granddaughter/ sister, Jamie Alexa. The classes are FREE, but please preregister at jamiesangels2016@gmail.com. All programs take place at the Joseph R. Russo Athletic Complex (JRRAC).

ADULT OPEN PLAY PICKLEBALL OPTIONS

Open play is designed to allow players the opportunity to enjoy, meet others, and work on their game.

BEGINNER ORGANIZED OPEN PLAY is a great way for beginners to learn the game while playing; an instructor will be present to organize gameplay and provide instruction.

ORGANIZED OPEN PLAY features gameplay in a round-robin style format that facilitates play with and against others. A pickleball instructor is present to assign players to courts and coordinate play. These activities are offered at different skill levels to ensure a good time is had by all (2.5-2.9 & 3.0 and Above). These activities are not for beginners. Participants must know the rules and how to keep score. Free to Pickleball Passholders.

OPEN PLAY is meant for recreational purposes and to provide participants with an opportunity to develop and have fun at all skill levels. These Open Play sessions are unsupervised. Participants will be expected to follow general etiquette and paddle rotations for play and always show good sportsmanship. Free to Pickleball Passholders.

Most Recreation Department programs offer a resident and a non-resident fee. To be eligible for the discounted resident fees, a participant must reside within incorporated Palm Beach Gardens municipal limits and provide acceptable proof of residency. To check residency status, go to pbgfl. gov/recreation, click on Residency Check icon and enter the address. If your address does not appear, you will be charged non-resident fees.
