Chinese New Year in Malaysia lasts for 15 days, and is normally during January to February that varies from year to year. Normally, just like any other festivals, preparations are normally the starters of Chinese New Year.

First, the families will clean their home thoroughly. This is not only to welcome the guests to come duringChinese New Year, but also the Chinese's belief that this can 'sweep away the misfortune' from one's family, prepared for good luck to enter the house again. However, it is a bad thing to sweep the floor during Chinese New Year itself, because it is believed that this way, the family will 'sweep ' away all its good luck during the festival. Many parents will write riddles on lanterns for their children to guess, eating traditional dumplings – "tang yuan", and putting up candles to guide the good spirits home. This is also known as the 'Valentine's Day' in Malaysia. Females will write their name and contact number attached to an orange and throw them into a lake, while males pick them up and eat them, also hopefully contacting the attachment's containing name and address. And here comes the end of Chinese New Year.
