True success is measured in lives lived with purpose and impact.
As we look back on this remarkable year at Priory, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the extraordinary ways our students and community continue to embody the Benedictine values that define us. Guided by spirituality, hospitality, integrity, individuality, and community, we are excited to share another year of achievement, service, and growth.
This spring, Panther Pride soared as our Boys’ Basketball team captured its first-ever state championship at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center. Under the leadership of Head Coach David Moseley, our students displayed the grit, teamwork, and resilience we cherish—a victory that reflects not only athletic excellence but also character, perseverance, and unity.
Beyond athletics, our students expanded their horizons through transformative international experiences. The Priory Choir performed in historic cathedrals across France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, deepening their sense of belonging through music and cultural connection. Meanwhile, students studying marine ecology in Roatán, Honduras, gained scientific insight and a profound commitment to stewardship, empathy, and global citizenship.
These stories, and many others, celebrate how our students grow in intellect, character, compassion, and curiosity. Whether through athletic triumphs, artistic expression, or service to others, they remind us that true success is measured in lives lived with purpose and impact.
Because of the unwavering support of our Priory community, our students are empowered to dream, to lead, and to create a hope-filled future. Thank you for your commitment to our mission. We look forward to the blessings and opportunities the coming year will bring.
Gratefully,

ATHLETICS AT A GLANCE
Last year was a fantastic year for Priory Theater, with student actors and techies diving into adventure, tragedy, and a new musical experience.
The season opened with the rollicking “The Three Musketeers,” adapted by Ken Ludwig. Our All-School Play brought middle and high school students together in 1700s France, complete with political intrigue, sword fights, and period dances. A cast of 42 actors and 37 techies moved seamlessly across 20 locations, thrilling audiences with epic battles and comedic wit.
The Upper School Play, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, reimagined in a modern Brutalist setting, showcased dazzling performances filled with magic, heart, and vulnerability. With 30 actors and 28 techies, the production featured professional fight choreography and stunning sets that transported audiences from Scotland’s castles to supernatural realms.
For the first time, the Middle School produced a musical—Annie Jr. Directed by guest director Terri Hilton with musical direction by Albee Mabeza and Jason McChristian, the show featured 33 cast members, 29 crew, and a pit of 17
Priory musicians. With energy, humor, and heartfelt performances, the students captivated audiences from the first note to the final bow.
Remarkably, over 60% of our student performers also play after-school sports, embodying Priory’s value of balance. By engaging in theater, athletics, and other pursuits, they grow as versatile, resilient individuals with skills that will serve them well beyond the stage.

UPPER SCHOOL GRADUATION
On May 31, 2025, the Priory community gathered on Father Christopher Field to celebrate the 65th graduating class of Woodside Priory School. Under sunny skies and with joyful hearts, 73 seniors crossed the stage—grounded in Benedictine values and ready to lead lives of purpose, service, and integrity. Guided by the Head of Upper School, Ana CortezHernández, who oversees the entire Upper School program and shepherds each class through to graduation, the ceremony reflected the care, intention, and sense of community that define the Priory experience.
Highlights of the ceremony included a heartfelt speech by student Emeric Chang, who used his passion for archery to reflect on strength, focus, and stepping into the future. Siyou Samuel Jiang was honored as Valedictorian for his outstanding academic achievement and embodiment of Priory’s mission.
Together, the class earned more than 469 college acceptances, submitted applications to 21 Catholic colleges, and explored the world by applying to 19 international universities. Seven students will begin college abroad
in countries such as Italy, Northern Ireland, Morocco, the UK, and Germany.
Several graduates will also continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, including at Princeton, Willamette, Dominican, and Salt Lake Community College—testament to the balance and drive cultivated at Priory. We are so proud of all they’ve achieved—and even more excited for the impact they’ll make next. The Class of 2025 leaves Priory as curious, compassionate, and confident young adults ready to shape a better world.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADUATION
On May 29, 2025, the Priory community gathered in Rothrock Performing Arts Center to celebrate our largest Middle School graduation to date—45 spirited and dynamic 8th grade graduates. Known for their energy, humor, and strong sense of community, this group brought life and leadership to every corner of campus. Over the years, they’ve cheered one another on in competitions, shown creativity in classrooms and studios, and forged friendships that embody the heart of Priory’s Middle School experience.
They excelled in athletics, lit up the stage in the performing arts, helped launch Priory’s first Middle School robotics club, and made history as the first 8th grade class to enjoy the new Middle School courtyard during their campout—a fitting symbol of both growth and new beginnings. The ceremony featured heartfelt student reflections, joyful musical performances, and a memorable address from beloved science teacher Lisa Wood. In her “final science lesson,” Ms. Wood offered words of wisdom drawn from biology—encouraging students
to embrace their individuality, nurture healthy friendships, take care of their bodies, and stay open to growth and change.
As the graduates tossed their leis and hugged their teachers and families, the sense of pride and possibility was palpable. “You’ve got this,” Ms. Wood reminded them—and they truly do. We’re incredibly proud of all our 8th grade graduates and can’t wait to see the many ways they’ll continue to grow and shine in the years ahead.

BEYOND THE BUZZER: PRIORY’S STATE TITLE
Panther Pride: Priory Basketball Makes History
The This spring at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center, Priory Boys’ Basketball made history with an 83–66 victory over Fresno Christian, claiming the school’s first-ever state championship in basketball.
For Head Coach David Moseley, the win was surreal. “Honestly, it felt like disbelief,” he said. “This group was younger than expected to be at this level, maybe a year ahead of schedule. But for them to rise to the occasion and show grit—all the values we talk about—was amazing.”
The turning point came in the third quarter. Down by double digits, the Panthers surged behind Balázs Nyikos ’25, who scored, rebounded, and assisted his way to a personal 10–0 run in under a minute. Alongside him, Jai Gerrodette ’26 sank NBA-range threes, while Mate Palotai ’26 and Teddy Xanthopoulos ’27 dominated the paint. Noah Gallon ’26 provided leadership and relentless energy—both on the court and, memorably, at team dinners.
The journey wasn’t without challenges. Injuries tested the roster, and a late-season loss to Sacred Heart became fuel for the playoff run. “Sometimes a loss is the best reminder of what it takes,” Moseley reflected.
Off the court, the team built bonds through service with Generations United in Redwood City and shared meals that became part of their identity. “Community service and dinners brought us together,” said Moseley.
For Moseley—named State D4 Coach of the Year—the title also fulfilled a personal promise to longtime assistant Coach Jeff Westerfield, who has been battling cancer. Seeing Westerfield’s joy that night was one of the season’s most powerful memories.
While the championship banner now hangs proudly, Moseley sees the deeper legacy in the lessons his athletes carry forward. “Winning matters, but building character matters more. I’m proud of our alumni—whether they become doctors, soldiers, or entrepreneurs—because they take these lessons into life.”
The final buzzer in Sacramento marked more than a victory. It was a moment that united students, families, and alumni in pride and joy—a reminder that when grit meets community, anything is possible.
ONE CHORUS, MANY VOICES
Priory Chorus: Finding Harmony at Home and Abroad
This summer, the Priory Chorus set out on a remarkable journey through France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Led by Director of Choral Music Albee Mabeza and in partnership with former Priory faculty member Tina Paulson and her choir from Notre Dame San Jose, 18 Priory students sang in historic cathedrals whose soaring architecture was designed for choral music.
“Taking students to these countries with such stunning churches is a one-of-a-kind music education experience,” Mabeza explained. “You can’t replicate the acoustics or the feeling of singing in spaces built for choirs.”
Over 10 days, the chorus performed four concerts, each one stronger than the last. A highlight came in Namur, Belgium, where Priory students filled the baroque L’église Saint-Loup with song. Afterward, nuns from a nearby convent spoke with the students, affirming the deep spiritual connection that music can inspire. For Mabeza, the trip held personal joy as well: “I even got to spend my birthday conducting my students in Belgium—that was a gift I’ll never forget.”
Beyond the music, cultural experiences added richness to the tour: canal rides in Brugge and Amsterdam gave the two choirs time to bond, and a visit to the Anne Frank House left a lasting impression on many students. “You could see close bonds form between our students as they sang and traveled together,” Mabeza reflected. “Music cultivates community, and this trip embodied that idea.”
Back at home, Priory Chorus continues to grow in size and impact.
Enrollment has nearly doubled in Middle School, the choirs have earned honors at the Golden State Choral Competition, and they remain a beloved presence at Priory traditions—from 8th Grade Graduation to the Concert Choir’s farewell gift of song to seniors at Commencement.
At the heart of it all, Mabeza says, is belonging. “I want choir to be a place where students can express themselves artistically and find community. Singing together is one of the most powerful ways to build connection.”
With four concerts each year and future tours on the horizon, the Priory Chorus is striking chords that will resonate for years to come.
PRIORY SCIENCE STUDY ABROAD
TROPICAL MARINE
ECOLOGY
This summer, Priory students embarked on an extraordinary 15-day science study abroad journey in Roatán, Honduras, focused on Tropical Marine Ecology. From May 31 to June 14, 2025, the group lived at Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR)—a locally-owned resort by the Galindo family—and studied at the renowned Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences (RIMS), which the Galindo family created to conserve and study the reef. Since its founding in 1989, RIMS has welcomed researchers and students from around the world. With direct access to more than 30 miles of coral reefs, mangrove forests, and seagrass beds, RIMS provided the perfect living classroom.
Immersive Learning in the Field
Led by RIMS scientist and educator Jen Keck, students dove into learning from the very first day. They practiced snorkeling in shallow waters, then quickly advanced to reefs alive with biodiversity, identifying corals, sponges, and fish in their natural habitats. Classroom lessons flowed seamlessly into hands-on labs and underwater exploration. Equipped with slates, students recorded data on corals marked with numbered weights, bringing science to life in real time.“Evenings concluded with communal
dinners prepared by AKR staff, followed by group reflections. Students recorded observations in detailed field journals designed by Priory teacher Christine Muir Parker. These journals blended notes on marine science with reflections on Roatán’s history, culture, and economy—helping students connect their fieldwork with a broader sense of place and purpose.
“I learned more in this program than I could have in a semester in the classroom!” — Piper Kalinowski ’26
Unforgettable Experiences
Among the trip’s highlights was a night snorkel, where the reef revealed its nocturnal rhythms. Spiny lobsters, octopuses, and brittle stars emerged while reef
fish changed colors and tucked into crevices to rest.
At Bailey’s Key, home to 19 Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, students observed behaviors while snorkeling alongside dolphins and heard directly from Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski, a worldrenowned scientist in dolphin communication.
Conservation in Action
A cornerstone of the program was coral reef restoration. Students learned about corals as foundation species and the threats posed by warming seas and human activity. They contributed directly to restoration efforts—outplanting nursery-raised fragments of endangered elkhorn and staghorn corals onto damaged reef sections.
Beyond the reef, students explored mangroves and seagrass beds, gaining a holistic view of how marine ecosystems sustain one another.
Reflection and Growth
Over two weeks, students practiced underwater observation, conducted coral transects, and analyzed data while developing a deeper awareness of global conservation. They also connected with local community members, touring the historic town of Oakridge and learning about the cultural and economic ties
“On this program, we were travelers, rather than tourists. Travel is learning; it cultivates one’s character, knowledge, and empathy all at once.”
— Yuqi Zheng’26
between the island and the sea.
A highlight was meeting Melloney, manager of Anthony’s Key Resort. Born and raised in Roatán, she shared stories of her 20 years at AKR and emphasized the importance of family, culture, and community— reminders that conservation is as much about people as it is about ecosystems.
A Journey of Transformation
The Priory Science Study Abroad 2025 program proved far more than a trip. Through rigorous study, conservation work, and cultural immersion, students discovered the beauty of Roatán’s reefs and community while uncovering new dimensions of themselves.
They returned not only with sharpened scientific skills, but also with a stronger sense of stewardship, global citizenship, and commitment to caring for our world and each other—reflecting Priory’s values of community, reflection, and respect for creation.

ADVANCEMENT EVENTS
Grandparents Day
On a beautiful November morning, 83 students and grandparents gathered at Priory for a memorable day. The day began with lunch in one of the school’s plazas, where families bonded over good food and stories that bridged generations. For many, this was their first visit, and the campus buzzed as students proudly showcased their classrooms and favorite hangouts. Many stayed for a matinee performance of The Three Musketeers, which highlighted the remarkable talents of our student performers and technicians.
Heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, faculty, and staff who made this day possible.
Volunteer Appreciation
Alumni BBQ
In August 2024, Priory alumni gathered for the Fourth Annual Alumni BBQ at our Franklin Garden Pavilion. The event featured pinsa baked by Fr. Matthew as well as produce grown by students in Jill Elfishawy’s Farm to Table course. Guests enjoyed stunning views of Windy Hill while reconnecting with friends and mingling with monks. The laughter and memories highlighted the deep ponds in our community, a testament to connections that extend beyond graduation. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this event a success.
This past May, Patrick Ruff welcomed our dedicated Priory volunteers to the Franklin Garden to celebrate their time, energy, and talents. Over the past year, their efforts have made a lasting impact on our community.
We gathered for a joyful afternoon of gratitude, highlighted by homemade pizza and margaritas. Heartfelt thanks to all our amazing Priory parents for a job well done!
Our Magical Moonlight Masquerade
On March 29, 2025, the Priory community gathered for the Moonlight Masquerade Gala, an evening of elegance and generosity. Thanks to Gala Chairs Brooke Day, Caroline Diarte Edwards, and Elizabeth Peck Repass Holmes, Sharon Heights Country Club was transformed into a star-filled celebration. Together, we masked, unmasked, and raised our paddles high in support of Priory’s Financial Aid program—a night of mystery and meaningful generosity.

This year, our Golf Classic grew into a full Weekend Warriors celebration with the addition of a Beginner Golf Clinic, Bootcamp, and Pickleball. Over 120 alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, sponsors, and friends came together during a sun-soaked Homecoming weekend to support our student-athletes through spirited play, auctions, and Fund-a-Need. Thank you for making our first Weekend Warriors a success.
Founders Circle Cocktail Party
In May 2025, Founders Circle members and annual fund volunteers were celebrated at Fr. Egon Square with a dazzling cocktail party. Priory’s music program set the tone, with junior Ardavan Afrakhteh leading a mesmerizing jazz ensemble. Guests enjoyed cocktails and Priorythemed cookies, adding a flavorful touch to this beloved annual gathering.
Our ANNUAL FUND
The most important, valuable, and tangible way to demonstrate support for Priory is through a gift to the Annual Fund. These essential, unrestricted gifts directly support every Priory student by bridging the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Priory education.
Our community is small by design, so every gift is important. Regardless of size, the gesture of support makes a tremendous difference. Priory’s vibrant culture of philanthropy is evidenced through our Annual Fund. We extend our deepest gratitude to those who gave last year, helping to make the Priory experience richer and more impactful for every one of our students.
Thank you.

SUSTAINING DONORS
Through the generosity of our sustaining donors who have given consecutively year-over-year, Priory has been able to meet changing needs and priorities as they arise. In addition to our giving societies, we also provide special recognition for those who have supported Priory every year for five or more consecutive years. Regardless of the amount, an annual gift is a valuable investment in our future.

Priory’s Mission
Woodside Priory School is a Catholic Benedictine, independent college preparatory school. Our mission is to assist all students in creating meaningful and balanced lives, developing as lifelong learners and stewards, and productively serving a world in need of their gifts.
Community
Together we find strength and purpose in supporting one another.

Hospitality
All are welcomed with honor and respect.
The Annual Report is published by the Advancement Office for the community of parents, alumni, friends, and family of Woodside Priory School.
Individuality
Every student has gifts to be discovered, nurtured, and treasured. Integrity
Learning flourishes in an environment of honesty, trust, and personal responsibility.

SUPPORTING THE PRIORY
For 68 years, Priory has been graced by the presence of our Benedictine monks, driven by the ambitions of talented teachers and administrators and backed by the generous support of the school’s donors. The Priory enjoys a robust culture of philanthrophy sustained by your faithful commitment.
We are grateful.
Ways to Give
Gifts to Priory may be made by cash, check, credit card or apprecated stock.
Stocks or Securities
A gift of appreciated stock offers a two-fold tax saving: avoiding capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock and providing an income tax deduction for the full market value of the stock at the time of the gift.
Matching Corporate Gifts
Many companies offer employees a matching gift benefit that could double the contribution to Priory. Check with your Human Resources Department to see if your employer matches charitable gifts.
Gifts-In-Kind
Items may be donated to Priory, such as computers, software, professional services, and athletic equipment, which provide operational savings and meet the specific needs of Priory. The school does not assign a dollar value to gifts-in-kind.
Planned Gifts
Donors may consider giving bequests through wills or trusts, life insurance, retirement plan donations and life income gifts. Estate planning can be a way to reduce or avoid estate and inheritance taxes. We encourage you to speak with your financial planner which considering any type of planned gift. We honor those individuals who have made a lasting commitment to our school by including charitable gifts to the Priory in their estate. Those who remember the Priory through a will, trust, designation or other planned gift are invited to join our St. Benedict Society, which recognizes this special form of lasting philanthrophy.
Please contact Alex Tenorio, Director of Advancement for more information. atenorio@prioryca.org 650-851-6139
