OBITUARY

Deaconess Saintamise Lelio

Saintamise leaves behind a powerful legacy. She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings, Clairvanie Louis, Claudius Louis, Kilmene Louis, Lorizia Sylvain and Zaluis Louis. Her children and their spouses, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, dear friends, and her cherished church family. She will also be remembered fondly by her friends from the Forever Young Adult Day Program, and by all the many lives she touched with her kindness, strength, and spirit.

Saintamise Lelio - affectionately known as Sainta or Gran by her beloved grandchildren - was born on October 13, 1939, in Bonneau, a small community within Saint-Louis-du-Nord, Haiti, to the late Zaporte and Florilia (Philogene) Louis. She was one of ten children. Five of her siblings preceded her in death: Ciril Louis, Denuis Louis, Elizabeth Louis, Lianna Louis and Tecion Louis.

Saintamise lived her life as a faithful servant of God, a proud mother and grandmother, and a gifted cook who used her talents to bless those around her. She was kind, generous, and loving yet firm, strong, and steadfast in her beliefs. She lived by the power of prayer and the importance of truth, always speaking her mind but never losing her warmth or compassion.

In the late 1970s, Saintamise journeyed to the United States, first settling in New York before making Boston, Massachusetts her home. There, she became a longtime and devoted member of the New Pentecostal Church of God in Mattapan. In Haiti, she had worked as a seamstress and small business owner. After coming to the U.S., she continued her hardworking ways as a housekeeper before retiring early to become a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible, and spending time with her family. And though she often claimed she didn't like parties, everyone knew she was the life of them - always the last to leave, filling every room with laughter and joy.

Saintamise had her first two children, Antonide and Vanel Jean Baptiste, with Nerva Jean Baptiste, with whom she remained lifelong friends. She later had eight children - Ateyonie Vilnaigre, Muzeda Noel, Caris Vilnaigre, Wesly Vilnaigre, Karsion Vilnaigre, Maranatha Guillaumette, Necasty Vilnaigre, and Marie Gracia Felix - with her longtime partner, the late Estinor Vilnaigre.

After Estinor’s passing, she moved to the United States to build a better life for herself and her children.

In time, she met and married the late Ulrick Lelio, and together they welcomed her youngest child, Julie Lelio. Between them, they lovingly raised what can only be described as a Haitian Brady Bunch - a beautiful, blended family of twenty-two children.

We will forever love and miss our beautiful and fierce Sainta. May the heavens rejoice gloriously at the sight of your homecoming.

Rest Well, Queen - We Love You Always.

Reveillons Nous

1. Gen yon jou k ap vini,

Jou sa a p ap genyen chagren

P ap gen nyaj nan syel la, Ni gwo dlo pou twouble je m

Va gen lapè pou toutan,

Nan bèl ti vil dò sa a ki gran jou, jou gloriye sa va ye!

Refren:

Ki gran jou sa va ye, Le m a rakontre Jezi

E mwen va gade figi l,

Li menm ki sove m pa gras

E li va kenbe men mwen.

Poul mennen m nan tè pwomès la

Ki gran jou, jou gloriye sa va ye!

2. P ap genyen tristès, Ni fado pou nou pote,

Ni maladi, ni doulè,

Ni pataj nan peyi sa a.

Va gen lapè pou toutan

Nan bèl ti vil dò sa a.

Ki gran jou, jou gloriye sa va ye!

3. Ou menm ki san Jezi, sa ou va fè nan jou sa a?

Men Jezi pral vini,

Pòt lagras la pral fèmen

Kòlè Bondye pral tonbe

Sou tout moun ki san Jezi.

Ki gran jou, jou gloriye sa va ye!

Lèm santim fèb, lè tristès anvayi kèm

Lè zantray mwen ap dechire andan m

Nan solitid, mwen chita nan silans mwen

M tande vwa w kap di mwen pran kouraj

Ou leve mwen, retirem nan pousyè a

When I am down and, oh, my soul, so weary

When troubles come and my heart burdened be

Then I am still and wait here in the silence

Until You come and sit awhile with me

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up to walk on stormy seas

I am strong when I am on Your shoulders

You raise me up to more than I can be

Worthy is your name, Jesus

You deserve the praise Worthy is your name
