OBITUARY

Our beloved Maryann Greathouse was born on October 21, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Edward and Anne Mae Greathouse. She peacefully departed this life on October 20, 2025, just one day shy of her 70th birthday surrounded by her children.

Maryann grew up in Ashland, Alabama, where she attended Clay County High School. After graduating, later earning both her Patient Care Assistant and Teaching Certificate, fulfilling her lifelong passion for helping and nurturing others.

She is also survived by her siblings: Billy, Carolyn, and Sean and preceded in death by her brother Reginald. She will also be lovingly remembered by her special nieces Dorothy (Shawn), Sharon, CynthiaSaphi (Rodney): her beloved Aunt Helen and Uncle Jimmy; and a host of other family and friends who were touched by her warmth, humor and love.

Maryann was known for her crocked smile, her sharp dressing and her love to laugh. She loved to dance to any kind of music and cooking (especially THOSE SWEET POTATO PIES) for those she loved the most. You could catch her on any day watching her old western movies and then look up at you with that crocked smile.

Though she has gone to be with the Lord, her love, and laughter remains in our hearts……

“Well done, good and faithful servant …enter into the joy of your Lord.”

-Matthew 25:23

At the young age of 18, Maryann with her mother relocated to Boston, MA, in pursuit of new opportunities. There she began her professional career at the Italian Home in the North End, where she worked compassionately as a Patient Care Assistant for 12 years. Later, she shifted her career toward education and dedicating six years to the children of Sunny Side Daycare in Hyde Park before retiring to spend more cherished time with her family – her proudest accomplishment of all.

Maryann was blessed with three loving children –Willie, Denetric, and Aisha Greathouse and goddaughter Schnitta McDaniel. She leaves behind legacy of love through her grandchildren: Shequilya, Jaylon, Willie Jr, Vincent, Tawan, Tommy, and Tashayye; and her precious great grandchildren: Ashton, Shaniya, Lyric, Melody, Maeson, and Malani.

A Word of Comfort For Mary Ann Greathouse Family

Words cannot explain the hurt you are feeling right now. I can feel your frustration and pain but I know God will give you the strength you will need to get through this time.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family as you struggle through the grief and sadness of the loss of your beloved mother (Mary Ann). Words cannot begin to express the sadness you are feeling right now.

There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without but have to let go. Although there are no words to ease your pain, remember that she is now in heaven, in God’s loving arms where she is in peace.

May the angels walk with you on this day and hold and keep you until the pain goes away.

Saying I’m sorry seems so hollow with a loss as great as yours. One of the storms of life that we all must face is the loss of someone dear to our hearts.
