THE CLOCK OF TIME

The clock of life is wound but once, And no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. To lose one's wealth is sad indeed,
To lose one's health is more To lose one's soul is such a loss that no one can restore.

OBITUARY

In Loving Memory of Bernice Cleotta (Drakes) King Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother

April 7, 1934 – February 6, 2025

Bernice Cleotta (Drakes) King was born on the island of Barbados on April 7, 1934. The fourth of five children to the late James Walter & Ellen Drakes.

Upon the age of 12 years old, she became an excellent cook and baker! By the age of 14, she learned to sew (dressmaking/tailoring). She was always happy as well as the life of the party laughing and telling jokes!!

She migrated to Boston in 1969 and worked in a private home taking care of three boys. Thereafter, she became employed at the Beth Israel Hospital for 17½ years until her departure to return to caring for children for another 18 years until her retirement.

Mother King accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1972 and was baptized by the late Rev. Arnold Browne of the Beulah Pilgrim Holiness Church.

Some years later, she served at the Joy & Gladness Church under Pastor James Winspeare and, thereafter, joined her beloved church home at Faith Christian Church under leadership of Bishop LeRoy & Rev. Elvina Greenaway. She was always known as a people-person and will be dearly missed.

Mother King was blessed with her loving daughter, Marcelle Ashby, beloved grandsons; Anderson (Terrilyn) & Andrew (Andrea); three great grandchildren Latrell, Kasidee & Hailey; And many friends, too numerous to mention.

We Will Understand It Better

1 Trials dark on ev'ry hand, and we cannot understand All the ways that God would lead us to that blessed Promised Land; But He'll guide us with His eye, and we'll follow till we die; We will understand it better by and by.

Refrain:

By and by, when the morning comes, When the saints of God are gathered home, We will tell the story how we've overcome; We will understand it better by and by.

2 Oft our cherished plans have failed, disappointments have prevailed, And we've wandered in the darkness, heavy-hearted and alone; But we're trusting in the Lord, and, according to his Word, We will understand it better by and by.

(Refrain)

3 Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares, And our hearts are made to bleed for some tho'tless word or deed, And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best, But we'll understand it better by and by.

Oh, I Want To See Him

As I journey through the land singing as I go, pointing souls to Calvary to the crimson flow, many arrows pierce my soul from without, within; but my Lord leads me on, through him I must win.

Refrain:

O I want to see him, look upon his face, there to sing forever of his saving grace; on the streets of Glory let me lift my voice; cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.

2 When in service for my Lord dark may be the night, but I'll cling more close to him, he will give me light; Satan's snares may vex my soul, turn my thoughts aside; but my Lord goes ahead, leads whate'er betide.

[Refrain]

3 When in valleys low I look toward the mountain height, and behold my Saviour there, leading in the fight, with a tender hand outstretched toward the valley low, guiding me I can see, as I onward go.

[Refrain]

4 When before me billows rise from the mighty deep, then my Lord directs my bark; he doth safely keep, and he leads me gently on through this world below; he's a real friend to me, O I love him so.

[Refrain]
