OBITUARY

Hazel Virginia (Barnett) (Hull) Randolph, 89, peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 6, 2023. Born in Comer, Georgia on January 15, 1933, Hazel was the daughter of the late Lucy Barnett and Luther Hull. She relocated to this area sixty years ago and over the years lived in New York, Connecticut, Pittsfield Massachusetts; finally making Springfield her permanent home until her demise.

Hazel worked as a Nanny, lovingly caring for other children, but never missed an opportunity to help others in need. In the late 60’s, she served as an usher at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, Springfield, Massachusetts. She loved Jesus so much and knew He had her in the palm of His hands. Her faith was strong, and she never ceased to pray.

One of Hazel’s favorite past times was cooking; always preparing enough food for her family, friends, and neighbors. She genuinely loved listening to gospel music, as well as the blues; singing and dancing as long as her health permitted. She always watched General Hospital and Highway to Hell, but never failed to listen to all the great gospel legends sing.

Hazel had a passion for shopping, doing crossword puzzles, reading romance novels and cowboy books. She especially liked traveling to Vermont and Connecticut to get her chewing tobacco and snuff. She would always do her own nails but in the last year of her life, she loved going to the nail salon to get them done in her favorite colors, green and red, and she could not wait to show them off. God granted her enough strength to make it there one more time, before Christmas, and it made her very happy. She kept going until she was unable to do so.

While she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue in the lives of those whom she touched; her children, grandchildren, five generations, thus far, and more to come. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, John Randolph; daughters, Shirley Merrit and Gayla Bailey; stepdaughter, Hazel Madison; son, Jeffrey Randolph; stepson, Stanley Randolph, sister, Elizabeth Walton; brothers, Luther, Jr. and Lawrence Lloyd.

She leaves to cherish her memory Five daughters: Mamie Lee Hull, of Georgia, Gretchen Hooks (Kenneth), Tammy Hall, Daphne Randolph, and Paulena Bergeron (Gerald), all of Springfield, Massachusetts. Two sons; Paul Randolph of Bennington, Vermont, and Jerry Ratliff of Florida. She had her special children, as she called them; Allhdene Williams (together now), Telleha Howard, Isreal Lopez, Deli Williams, and goddaughter, Senella Dennis. She also leaves to honor her memory, thirty-one grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family of Hazel V. Randolph wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
