OBITUARY Frankie Anthony Hoyte, better known to some as “Kalamo” and to others as “Captain,” son of Neville Hoyte and Nella Joseph, was born on December 12th, 1953, in Couva, Trinidad. He was raised however, by his loving grandparents James and Lilian Hoyte, whom he fondly called "Ma and Pa", and spent most of his early years amongst his aunts, uncles and many cousins.

He attended Anstey Memorial Boys Anglican School in San Fernando, followed by St John's College in Trinidad, and in his later years Community Bible Institute Seminary and Brevard of Palms Bay Florida where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Theology in support of his spiritual faith. Frankie was widely known though for his skills as a tailor.

Sewing was his true passion and provided him with purpose and motivation in life until the very end.

He started sewing at an early age under the tutelage of Daniel (Danny) Mark and he credited Selwyn Henry for teaching him how to properly draft a pair of pants, at the age of 20. He continued to develop his craft and later opened a tailoring shop, followed by a boutique in San Fernando, Trinidad under the name - Roots Exotic.

Frankie and I met by chance in the summer of 1986 and I fell head over heels instantly. We didn't see each other for some time but began dating I believe the summer of 1987 and was engaged in October 1988. Shortly thereafter he migrated to Toronto, Canada but returned to Trinidad and Tobago, and on his return, we were married on July 7th, 1990. Even during his stay in Toronto, he developed his passion and mastered the art of making leather clothing. He unknowingly befriended my cousin Marie Claire Shippley to whom he bragged of his beautiful girlfriend in Trinidad. Frankie and I migrated to Boston, Massachusetts in June 1991 and he continued his sewing business, making uniforms for many of the staff at the Long Island Hospital in New York through his cousins Dr. Edmund and Edric McAlister. In 1997 he joined OKW Fashion for Fine Women Clothing on Clarendon Street, Boston where he was fondly referred to as “Mr. Frankie” by one of his bosses Mrs Waheeda AliSalaam. He parted ways with OKW in 2009 but remained working with them periodically, until 2017.

Throughout his time in Boston he sewed for many people making church clothing, wedding dresses, men's wear and even body suits and bikinis for Soca and Associates a Carnival band. On the onset of the COVID 19 Pandemic in 2020 Frankie mass produced masks and surgical hats, which were shipped to customers in Canada, Trinidad and various states in the US. He donated masks and gowns to a nursing facility in Stoughton. His masks were also featured on the Rachel Ray Show under the brand of one of his clients. Frankie was commissioned by Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehab to add sleeves to Johnnies to be worn by staff, during before we had a supply of PPE, which were fondly called "The Frankie's," by Dr Mark Ostrem.

Besides his love of God and sewing, Frankie had a love for music and sports.

He would reminisce that from the tender age of 8 or 9 he tried making his own drum out of a milk tin, and later learnt the art of drumming through a friend Jeffrey Lewis known as Opio. He was a member of Nantambu drummers in Trinidad, and Jah Jah drummers here in Boston. Frankie sometimes annoyingly drummed on anything he would put his hands on, no matter the time of day or night. Even to the end drumming brought him comfort during music therapy at the hospital, and at AccentCare Hospice.

He also had fond memories going to Ms. Amy and Mr. Prime at a young age for voice training and sang many solos and duets at music festivals while attending Anstey Boys Memorial. He has been known over the years to pen his own songs which he performed with the drum groups and at The Ark of the Covenant Spiritual Baptist Church where we previously attended.

When he was not sewing, he spent his free time devoted to watching sports. In his youth he was the captain of his college soccer team, played table tennis, and was also the captain of City Hackers in the San Fernando basketball league.

Frankie was diagnosed in the early Fall of 2011 with Multiple Myeloma and began his battle with the disease, never losing faith or complaining until his passing. He was willing to try it all, and begged God to have him take the hit so that his children would not have to bear this dreaded disease.

Mid December 2017 through obedience we began visiting Family Life Fellowship and found ourselves a home in the Lord where Frankie's love and joy of Christianity was rekindled. Even through his illness he served as a member of Project compassion's red team where he could be seen in the kitchen helping to prepare meals, as a member of the worship team he played the congas and percussion instruments as often as he could make it to service. On November 12th, through tremendous pain, Frankie fought to make it to service as he kept saying I need to fellowship with my brethren and have the elders lay hands on me. God granted him that wish and the Holy Spirit and His entourage filled the house on that day in his honour. There are no words to express my gratitude to our Pastors, brothers and sisters of this house. May there be a special place in eternity for all of you, I truly could not have gone through this without your love and support the past 6 years. The love you have shown to us from our very first visit to his passing is amazing, I will never forget.

We were blessed by a great medical team throughout his journey and would love to thank his Pcp of many years Dr Rachel Hindin, Dr's Chadi and Tony Tannoury Orthopedic surgeons who did excellent work on his spinal repair 2012 and 2017. Dr Mark Sloan and Np Frances Blevins - Boston Medical Oncology, Dr Zachariah Defilipp - Stem Cell Transplant, Dr Eric Newman - Orthopedic Surgery, Dr Chirayu Patel - Radiation Oncologist, Dr Christopher Stapleton and Np Blerta Balla Neurosurgery, a very special thank you to Dr Noopur Raje Oncologist and her Np's Emy, Cindy and Caroline. To all the Palliative care team, especially NP Lelsie Cartagena, every other Dr/Nurse/Pt/Ot on Lunder 7, 9 and 10, integrated therapies Hugo, Michael, and Frankie 's favorite music therapist Lorrie Kubicek (we could not have gone through the past year and a half without your love and support). Not forgetting Mass Brigham Home Care, and the staff at AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center.

His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, and all of his loved ones.

O B I T U A R Y

Frankie's Hour Has Come As He Goes Back To God. An artistic designer was placed here on earth.

Frankie's love for sewing was designated from birth.

Few could construct cloth as this dedicated Tailor.

He acquired multiple skills; an expert creator became a Master.

God drew him apart to make a fresh start.

Facing the realization, his life needed transformation.

Now this pattern's life, was being rearranged.

Adjustments upon the potters wheel, the stylist moved from imagination to deeper meditation bringing revelation.

Tested and tried, Frankie and Gail believed by faith.

His earthly toiling here has ended.

The curtain has descended.

And his journey will unfold on the otherside.

In Tribute to our precious Brother, a loving Husband, a devoted Father, having many cousins and in-laws with trusted friends who loved and admired him.
