SMARTPHONE LAMP Miniature lampshade over phone flashlight producing lighting effects. Made from paper and clear plastic.

Using the theme of skeleton and facets to create interesting forms. Thin wooden dowels were knitted together with string to create a mat-like structure that could be bent in various ways. The form was built out of 4 mats of different sizes with paper weaving between the dowels.

Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water. Aims to stand lightly on top of the landscape and harmonize with its surroundings. Made with cardboard, bamboo, and decorative wood.

LIGHT Analyzing the presence of light on Granville Park. Line of trees around the perimeter of open space provides ample shade at all times. Lamp posts around intersections give vision of potential hazards.

The FORM studio approaches design through exploring interesting shapes and volumes and integrating them into an engaging performance space.

An initial sound analysis on site was done.

Outdoor white noise and weather conditions were around 50dB on site. Using distance attenuation calculation, the known sound pressure levels(dB of a source from 15m away) was used to find the distance from the source until its sound pressure level passes as white noise. The distances determine the radii of the circles in the sound diagram.

The design can be simplified to a canopy structure enshrouding over a hardscape. Instead of dividing spaces using walls, the programs are integrated into the topography. There are 3 pits that holding small musical performances and excess rooms placed underground. Openings on the sides of the canopy control circulation and privacy.

The canopy has two layers intended to be built as a thin tensile structure. Once I gain more experience I will come back to the design and research the details of how it might be built.

The normal of the canopy's curve is pointed upwards and towards the North. The angle and direction seek to reflect as much sound as possible.

Lower level containing storage, changing rooms, and restrooms is accessible by a ramp. The no-walls approach allows the project to stay true to landscaping. I chose to play with the site's topography because of the small scale of the site. Programs can have space to breath if the site feels open without barriers 20 m
