What a start to the year. Further tensions in the Middle East, conclusions to the impeachment trials, SOTU, 2A rally’s in Virginia and Kentucky, Coronavirus, etc.; and its only February. Every time we turn on the TV or log in to Facebook, it seems that something else has happened that makes us even more ready for Jesus to come back. I know for most of us, jobs, families, and personal lives are the obvious priority. But whenever you look out into the world, some of you can’t help but feel that something needs to be done and it’s about time that you did something about it.

Most of us look outside the windows of our cars and our houses and see something, anything, that needs to be better than what it is now. We live in a world that requires constant improvement. Whether you belong to a faith, a creed, or a family motto, we all know that we have a job to do. The problem is that most of us haven’t got the slightest idea of what to do or where to start. Well to that, I have a suggestion. How about instead of looking through the window, let us all look “through” the mirror. Not look at one, “through” one. I believe that if we do this, there’s a lot more that we can discover about ourselves.

Let me preface this topic by saying

that nothing I say or suggest is rooted in, desires to seek out, or is motivated to cause a feeling of shame, but rather honesty. What about the deepest parts of ourselves need to be observed? What things about ourselves do we need to have a “come to Jesus” moment with? What parts of ourselves can we be thankful and give praise for?

I have a truth to share with you. We were created for more. I believe we were meant for more, often more than we give ourselves. Not more things or material passions, but for more life. More life, not in quantity, but in quality. My question for all of us is how and why have we neglected this need for more life? I believe that it is this neglect for more life that has led to the worldwide starvation of life we see today. These problems we witness, foreign and domestic, across states, town, and streets, they all come from the same thing: a lacking of life.

As we continue throughout this year, this must be a question we ask ourselves: how can we bring life and claim more life for ourselves, for our families, and for our strangers? What is wrong and how can I bring life into it? These are the questions, and those that follow them, that will be what charters our course for a better tomorrow.

So, look at yourself and the life

I don’t NEED a gun.

I have never needed a gun. I hope I never need a gun. In all likelihood, I will never need a gun. However, should I ever need a gin, I better have a gun. Therefore, I have a gun. And, if the government ever says you can’t have a gun, that’s when you’ll need a gun the most! Submitted by RL, Lubbock

of those you admire. I’m currently writing this article while listening to the film score of Braveheart. This morning I started the day by reading MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Once I got to my office and said my morning prayers, I began reading Wild at Heart by John Eldredge.

These are some of the things that help me look at myself, look at the world, and gives the reason to move forward to a better tomorrow. Find out the good things that fill you with inspiration and the bad things that turn

you inside out. Find out, for yourself, what gives you the fuel to go across the nation and across the street and bring about life.

And at the end of the day, throughout all of the grind of work and life, throughout your struggles and trials as well as your joys and praise, I do hope you find and have life.

24 2ND AMENDMENT

Below the Radar: HR 5301 introduced by Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK)

BY HAROLD HUTCHISON O ne reason legislation will fly in under the radar is because it is not flashy. There is no catchy title, and it often just gets filed. There may not be many cosponsors – if any. But some of these bills could make a huge difference. One such bill is HR 5301, introduced by Representative Kevin Hern (R-OK).

Hern did not even issue a press release with this legislation. The text takes two pages, and that is arguably due to the formatting on the first page. There’s no title. All it says is, “To amend title 18, United States Code, to permit certain individuals complying with State law to possess firearms.”

So, what is this bill about? All it does is provide a huge boost to those who exercise their Second Amendment rights in the 16 states that have constitutional carry through an amendment to the Gun-Free School Zones Act. What is that boost? It modifies the law to reflect the reality that in those constitutional carry states, there is no need to have a concealed carry permit.

The problem, when the Gun-Free

School Zones Act passed, it didn’t take into account constitutional carry.

The current law, found at 18 USC 922(q)(2), outlaws carrying a firearm unless “the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the

individual is qualified under law to receive the license.”

So, in those 16 states, it would just take an anti-Second Amendment extremist in a U.S. Attorney’s office to decide to prosecute a gun owner who was not doing anything wrong – all on that technicality. That is not a good situation at all.

Hern’s legislation changes the convoluted language of the current law to something much simpler, saying that now, the exception would apply to anyone “in compliance with the law of the State and political subdivision in which the school zone is located.”

This removes the jeopardy attached to those who are within state law in the constitutional carry states. Now, if you are in compliance with state and

local law, you are no longer at risk from the Gun-Free School Zones Act if you exercise your rights.

One thing Second Amendment supporters should think about: A bill like this can often be slipped into a bigger piece of legislation, like the annual appropriations legislation, especially in the conference committee where the House and Senate resolve their differences.

Loyal readers should get in touch with their Representative and Senators, and politely urge them to support HR 5301, to improve the situation vis-à-vis the Gun-Free School Zones Act in the constitutional carry states. They should also take the time to thank Representative Hern for this good piece of legislation. Carrying in accordance with local and state laws should not place someone in jeopardy of losing their rights due to an anti-Second Amendment federal prosecutor.
