Passive Ease

Place: San Antonio, Medina County Year: 2023 (Design 3) Type: Agriculture Center Professor: Billy Lambert

Located near the medina river, the project deals with housing the machinery, materials, and faculty, while acting as a center for the surrounding farmsteads.

It utilizes the passive systems of the space to add relief and ease tensions among the faculty while treating it more as a community space instead of a workspace. The center focuses on water collection, air circulation, & sunlight pathing; building A blocks the harsh winds while also serving as an anchor. Building b acts as a docking space to filter the workers through, and Building C reinforces the communal aspect. These are centered around a cistern, the primary collection system. Light materials are used to encourage exchanges, and a light oak frame with outer plaster walls and dividing frosted plexiglass walls. Overall, this space is made to ease tensions as these workers are essential to the well-being of our society.

Watching. Defenition: To look at; to take care of; to look at something for a period of time, especially if it is changing or moving; Observe; View attentively with interest; to comtemplate or regard mentally; Continuous observation for Discovery.

Watching. Interpretation: To take in or observe apsects of the object. To contemplate thoughtfully or think about profoundly.

As a whole, this pavilion has a singular purpose, to watch. The shape originating from a tent, meant to house while encouraging viewers to enter. Eye level slits on the sides meant to view along with its general openness, while making the viewer as part of the pavilion.

Watching. The objective is shown through the empty eye-level side sections. The twisted blue plastic strips help tie the structure together as they act as a barrier while minimizing wind damage. Blue was chosen to send the viewer an inviting & calm mood, enabling them to dwell longer. Blue changes it to a more calming & relaxing experience. The horizontal movement of the plastic gives a sense of harmony throughout the structure. All elements combine to provide a compelling experience while having the viewer as part of it.

Various Notable project from throughout my Architectural Education.

The Medina River Valley Project, being tasked to survey & explore the River Valley for various aspects, then to vizualize it in a unique and informative manner. It was achieved through collage and lists of all the trash in each site The Downtown San Antonio Cognitive Map, a map to illustrate and activate all the cognitive senses, given a certian path to walk. Completing this through pictures taken throughout the trip and represtenting the key landmarks on each walk.

“A Place to Observe from Sunrise to Sunset,” as it states, a Structure meant for observers to sit to watch the sunrise to sunset, located on a waterfront. Solving this through a uninterupted panoramic view.
