A Taste of Home: Makers Bakers Co. at Findlay Market
When Kevin and Tara first opened Makers Bakers Co six years ago, they didn’t start in a full storefront—they started their dream in a tent outside of Findlay Market. That simple beginning, fueled by a determination to serve and tried-and-true recipes, has blossomed into a bakery recognized far beyond Cincinnati, making it a true destination for many travelers. Makers Bakers has been voted a top ten bakery in Cincinnati, and their fame has spread globally, having been written about in National Geographic and The U.K. Mirror, as well as being featured on the Discovery Channel. They’re also a fan favorite at local festivals, a staple of both The Taste of Cincinnati and Oktoberfest.
Now settled in a beautiful, new central location, their journey is a testament to their dedication to quality and to an always welcoming customer service that makes every interaction feel like coming home. Walk by their counter and you can literally see the passion at work—and the incredible selection! Makers Bakers consistently displays over 40 items daily. While their seasonal handmade pies, famous for their true butter crusts, are a cherished holiday tradition, their everyday menu is a deep dive into dessert heaven. They are famous for their unbelievably heralded bourbon caramel banana pudding and have become a local legend for their flagship cheesecakes, offering over 75 flavors rotated throughout the year.
The Makers Bakers story is built on a strong community spirit. They’ve earned the unwavering loyalty of their Market regulars and champion local partnerships, even collaborating with Sam Adams to
create unique pairings. As they settle into their new space, they continue to innovate, expanding their menu to include gourmet sandwich offerings served on fresh, house-baked breads like focaccia, sourdough, and brioche, with more varieties on the way. Whether you’re ordering a spectacular wedding cake or just stopping in for a simple, delicious lunch, Makers Bakers ensures there truly is something for everyone. Stop by their new location, and discover why their handmade nostalgia and 5-star service taste like sweet success.

Mariemont Veterinary Clinic
In May of 2022, Zola Veterinary Group purchased Mariemont Veterinary Clinic from Dr. Jim Westerfield, the long-time owner/practitioner. Located in between the Madeira, Madisonville, and Oakley areas, Mariemont Veterinary Clinic has been faithfully serving the local community at the current location on Murray Avenue since the late 1980s. When we decided to dive in and purchase the hospital from Dr. Westerfield, we knew there was something special about Mariemont Veterinary Clinic. In this day and age where corporate entities dominate the veterinary field, Dr. Westerfield had created and fostered a unique space where clients and pets were seen as a family community, while still practicing excellent medicine. As soon as we came in to see the clinic, we knew that this was a special place. The warmth and welcoming atmosphere was evident as soon
as we walked in the door, and although the building was older, we could see the potential in it. In January of 2025, we began a major remodel, clearing out the entire building except for the four outside walls. Teaming up with BDA (Buidling Design for Animals) Architecture and JDL Warm Construction, our vision of expanding the feeling of community to reach as many people and pets as possible was becoming a reality. The major project was completed by the first week of June, and we are currently operating out of our new and improved space. As a full service veterinary clinic, we are now able to continue to offer the highest standards of care to all pets, small animals and all exotics, and share our vision of community with the entire Cincinnati and Tri-State Area. Come on in and tour our new facility and see what we are all about!

Truva Turkish Kitchen: The Turkish Breakfast Experience
In a world where breakfast often means a quick bite or a cup of coffee on the go, Turkey offers a delicious reminder that the first meal of the day can be a feast— meant to be savored, shared, and celebrated.
A traditional Turkish breakfast, or kahvaltı, is a colorful spread of flavors and textures. It usually includes fresh white cheese (beyaz peynir), black and green olives, ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, boiled eggs or fried sucuk (spicy sausage), homemade jams, honey with clotted cream (kaymak), and endless baskets of warm, crusty bread. All of this is typically served with bottomless glasses of strong Turkish tea in tulip-shaped glasses—never rushed, always social.
By contrast, the classic American breakfast leans heartier and often heavier: stacks of pancakes drizzled with syrup, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sausages, toast with butter, and of course, coffee—preferably in a large mug. It’s a breakfast built for fuel, often eaten quickly before the rush of the
day begins.
What sets the Turkish breakfast apart isn’t just variety—it’s the ritual. It’s the slow pace, the shared plates, the conversation. While the American breakfast celebrates indulgence and convenience, Turkish breakfast is about connection. It’s less about “grabbing something to eat” and more about gathering together.
Whether you find comfort in a plate of bacon and eggs or delight in spreading rose jam over fresh bread, one thing is clear: breakfast is far more than food—it’s culture. And in Turkey, that culture begins at the table, with a meal that turns every morning into a celebration.
