UKULELE STRUMMERS
Happy June from Sun City Aliante Ukulele Strummers! The Ukulele Strummers are continuing to have a blast playing ukulele together every Sunday afternoon. Afew of our members were able to attend the Memphis Uke 'n Roll Jamboree in Memphis, Tennessee. The first night we all had a barbeque dinner together. We also had our first live and in person ukulele jam with Petey Mack (who led us for 400 days on Facebook Live during the pandemic) and listened to Petey Mack and several other Ukulele Artists entertain us. The braver attendees got up on stage and played and sang during the Open Mic time. The shyer attendees (like Judy and Chris) got up on stage and played a song with Pete and won the cherished rubber ducky autographed by Petey Mack for their contribution. The rest of the week we were treated to classes led by Ukulele Artists such as L'il Rev and Andrew Molina as well as more performances from local Ukulele Artists.
The Strummers who stayed here at home were treated to 3 Sunday afternoons of two hours of amazing strum-alongs led by Jerry, Pineapple and Dave. As usual we are continuing to offer three classes every Sunday and all classes have room for more strummers:
Basic Ukulele: 12:00-12:30 PM: For student who have never played ukulele.
Beginning Ukulele:12:30- 1:25: For students who are just starting to play ukulele
Advanced Ukulele: 1:30-2:30 pm. This class is for intermediate players who have attended ukulele classes here or with another instructor and know ten or more basic chords. We will learn one or two new songs a week, play through songs we know, and learn some special strumming techniques. We use Pete McCarty's August 2021free book of 400 songs for most of our music. It is located at this link :https://peteymack2.weebly.com/uploads/1/3/5/4/135404457/august_202 1.pdf

VETERANS AUXILIARY ARTICLE

Congratulations to the new Veteran's Club Officers (l-r) Sondra Harrington, Secretary/Treasurer LeRoy Munson, Chairman and Patricia Goeppinger, Vice Chairman.
As many of you know, I just assumed the duties of Chairman of the Board for the Veteran's Club of Sun City Aliante in April 2022. It is TRULYan honor to be able to serve all the veterans, servicemembers, first responders, family members, and residents of Sun City Aliante, which the Veteran's Club represents. So, if you are a resident (everyone) Veteran or not of Sun City Aliante, we need you to volunteer! Become a member.
What is Volunteering and why is it Important?
As a quick refresher, volunteering-also known as volunteerism- is when you give your time to help another person's organization, or cause. Volunteer opportunities include both in person volunteering and virtual volunteering. They can also cover a wide range of areas, such as community development, education, health and wellness, helping children, and even transportation. Buy why is it important to volunteer?
Here is one of the top reasons why you should become a volunteer in your community (Sun City Aliante). First, volunteering is important because it helps you make a difference in the world. Almost everyone says they want to make the world a better place, but volunteers are taking concrete actions to do just that. Whether it is cleaning up your neighborhood, tutoring students, helping a fundraising event, writing letters to officials, or any number of other crucial tasks volunteers perform, volunteering lets you truly impact the world and your community in a positive way.
If you read nothing else, know that this is your club (It is for everyone). We want to hear from you about ideas to bring everyone together in a positive way and break down the walls of isolation.
I want you to know about all the great events that we are holding, the best way to get this information is by attending the monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of every month (except July and August) at 6 p.m. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Meetings are held in the Vista Room in the Sun Aliante Community Center. The next meeting is June 21, 2022, at 6 p.m.
We are still taking brick orders for the Veterans Memorial Monument which is located outside in front of the Aliante Community Center. Please contact Sy Nielson to place an order at 702-234-9163.
Also, we have a great group of people helping Chris Rohrer: Seniors Assisting Seniors (SAS). Their hotline 702-981-3149.
You can also join us on FACEBOOK at Veterans Club Aliante.
YOU ARE TRULYAREMARKABLE GROUPOFPEOPLE!
Sincerely,
LeRoy Munson
Chairman, Veterans Club Aliante
