MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Customer Service Office Hours Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Greetings Friends,

Community Center

702-638-5065 Monday - Saturday 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

As a homeowner in a community governed by a homeowners association (HOA), commonly referred to as a Community Association, you may be curious about the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors. I will attempt to summarize the main duties; however, these may not reflect all that is performed by each Board member.

First Service Residential

702-399-4273 - www.fsresidential.com

Community Association Manager Damian Carrasco -702-638-5007 gm@suncityaliante.us

Community Association Assistant Manager Director of Standards and Compliance Nelenie Hernandez - 702-638-5006 assistantmanager@suncityaliante.us

Lifestyle Director

Debra Kent - 702-638-5061 dkent@suncityaliante.us

The Board of Directors are elected by the association homeowners to serve as their representatives and make decisions on behalf of the community. Our Board is made up of seven positions, each with specific roles and responsibilities. Partnering with a management company like FirstService Residential (FSR), who is there to assist in all aspects to relieve the Board of as much of the day-to-day burden of community governance as possible. The Board sets policy and FSR carries out the Boards policies. Your President is the head of the HOA Board of Directors and is responsible for leading the Board and representing the community. The President presides over the Board meetings, sets the agenda, and ensures that the meetings run smoothly. The President oversees the Board's operations, serves as a liaison between the Board and the community, and ensures that the Board fulfills its duties.

Lifestyle Department Office Manager

The President oversees our management company's work and ensures it is fulfilling its obligations to the community. Our community manager reports directly to the President. It is important to recognize that the President has one vote, as do all other Board members, and all issues are required to have a majority of the total Board members present, as long as a quorum of Board members has been met.

Customer Service Coordinator

Your Vice President is the second-in-command to the HOA Board President and assumes the President's responsibilities in the event of his/her absence or resignation.

The Secretary's primary responsibility is maintaining accurate records of all Board meetings, including agendas, meeting minutes, and other official documents. The Secretary serves as the official custodian of the HOA's records and documents, ensuring they are up-to-date and accurate. The Secretary should also provide oversight that the Board operates transparently and in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The Treasurer prepares and presents financial reports to the Board of Directors and the association's members. These reports should be detailed, transparent, and easy to understand; so, members can comprehend the association's financial status clearly. In addition, the Treasurer, working with the Finance Committee, ensures that deviations to our budget are warranted. In addition, the Treasurer works to ensure our investments are renewed in a timely and financially prudent matter. It is recognized that budgeting for expenses in advance, is not an exact science and leeway is always recognized for inevitable miscalculations. A Member-at-Large (or Director) is a Board member who does not have a specific role or responsibility but serves as a general member of the Board and provides support as needed. There are three Directors on our Board and any may be assigned specific duties by the President or the Board itself. In our community, each Board member is assigned, by the President, to be a liaison to each of our seven committees such as finances, maintenance, community events etc. In conclusion, I hope you have a joyous holiday season and that you will enjoy your experiences with other residents and loved ones. Please keep in mind what the holiday's represent. Peace and compassion for each other and through our efforts we can make wherever we are, a better place than before we arrived. Respectfully, Warren M. Geller President, Sun City Aliante Board of Directors

GENERAL MANAGER UPDATE ON PROJECTS, EVENTS, AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Dear Residents, I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends. I would like to express my appreciation to the Sun City Aliante Board of Directors for hosting an amazing Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on November 1. This was an opportunity to say thank you to each Committee member who has given generously of their time and talent to help make Sun City Aliante a great place to live, a place we are proud to call home. A special note of appreciation to our Lifestyle Director Debbie Kent and her team for organizing and executing a first-class event, and to our Facilities Manager Juan Macias and his team for their hard work in setting up and breaking down for the event. Do you ever wonder how your HOA assessments are being put to use in the Sun City Aliante Community? From time to time, I want to bring you up-to-date on completed projects and what we are currently working on. We have just wrapped up the following projects: •

•

• • • •

The Breeze magazine – Expanded The Breeze from 48 to 52 pages, which has resulted in additional pages for articles and advertising revenue. The cost for printing/mailing The Breeze is NOT funded by HOA assessments. The cost is entirely covered by revenues from advertisers in the magazine, with a profit as well. Banquet Chairs – In November, we received approximately 300 new chairs, which are being used throughout the Community Center. We have coordinated the sale of the old chairs. Office Equipment – A new copier contract was approved for two new machines and lowered the monthly cost by $160. New Postage Machine – A new postage machine contract was approved to replace the old one. Pool/Spa Area Maintenance – Completed the annual painting of the pool/spa area deck and the maintenance of the pool. Patio Furniture – Refurbished several patio chairs with new fabric slings.

We are currently working on the following projects: • Thermostat System – Installation of a new thermostat system in the Community Center. NV Energy will provide equipment and installation at no cost to the Association. • Sound System - Improve acoustical sound in the Vista Room with replacement of the overhead speaker system. • Roof – Working on quotes for roof repairs above the gym and pool areas. • Water Feature – Making repairs to the waterfall wall feature pump at the Aliante Parkway/Elkhorn entrance to the Community Center. • Pool Patio – Replacing and painting the pool patio fence. • Craft Room 3 – Replacing the AC unit in Craft Room 3. This is a perfect time to remind you about all the exciting events and activities that are planned for December. We hope you have registered

for our traditional holiday celebrations ~ The Christmas Tree Lighting on December 1 and the Festival of Lights on December 7 ~ in the Vista Room of the Community Center. Both of these events offer the opportunity to celebrate the holiday with friends, meet new ones, and reflect on the significance of the season. I really love to walk through the Community Center during this time of the year to take in all the beautiful holiday décor on display throughout the building. Thanks so much to Lifestyle Director Debbie Kent and our “Resident Elves” who put their decorating talents to work. Other fun events include a seminar, “How to Create a Floral Masterpiece for the Holidays” and a holiday lunch with Commissioner Kirkpatrick. On the entertainment scene, you can enjoy the Bellagio Conservatory, the Glittering Lights at the Las Vegas Speedway and more. Looking forward to 2024 and wishing you a very happy holiday season! If becoming a new homeowner at Sun City Aliante is that noteworthy achievement - CONGRATULATIONS! I welcome you to our community. If you haven't stopped by to register, please see Carol Garbarino, Customer Service Coordinator. She has a wealth of information to share. Please be open to receive information; so, you can avoid wasting time, money, and discomfort from failed assumptions in navigating this wonderful world of our Homeowner's Association. As a new homeowner, I am certain you have plenty of questions. They can range from the following: • Do I really have two assessment payments? Yes, you do, and it is mandatory! $240/quarter for Sun City Aliante and $51.50/monthly for Aliante Master. • Can I drop off payments at the Community Center rather than mailing it? Yes, you can. • Can I have more than one pet? Yes, you can have a maximum of three (3) pets. • Is it my responsibility to clean up after my pet even outside my property? Absolutely! Please pick up dog waste especially when your dog defecates on someone's property or the Common Areas. Remember, most people have cameras in their hand or by their garage doors. You might as well smile if you neglect to do this responsibility and get caught. • Do I have to keep my garage door closed? Yes. Garage doors must remain closed unless for ingress and egress. • What do I do if my neighbor's dog keeps barking and causing a nuisance? Throw it a treat to make it stop – I'm kidding. I recommend talking with your neighbor first, but if this is not an option, call the management office and Animal Control. • Do I have to submit a Home Modification Application for landscape accessories, changing paint color of my house, installing a spa/pool, installing fence or wall, or security cameras? Yes, for all the above. • Will my solar panel be disapproved? No, but you must turn in an ARC application for our records. You probably have more questions, I'm sure, and we are happy to help or assist any way we can. I am a firm believer that an informed homeowner is a good homeowner. I understand when you look at the governing documents, it's daunting to read. So, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Let's go back to end of the year achievements. Though 2023 was filled with unrest in the world, I hope each of you can look back and recall a memorable and intimate sukha, Sanskrit for genuine lasting happiness, joy, or bliss independent of circumstances. I hope you carry this into the next year and set your mind up for positivity and inspire you to reinvent yourself again. For the Christmas holiday, the Administration Offices will close on Friday, December 22 and Monday, December 25 and reopen on Tuesday, December 26 at 8 a.m. The Community Center will close at noon on Sunday, December 24 and reopen on Tuesday, December 26 at 6 a.m. For the New Year holiday, the Administration Offices will close on Monday, January 1, 2024 and reopen on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 8 a.m. The Community Center will close at noon on Sunday, December 31 and all day on Monday, January 1, New Year's Day. The holiday season is here! I want to thank everyone for their involvement and feedback; it is what makes our Aliante community so special and welcoming.

In celebration of this festive season, we will offer fun seminars in December. Michelle and Shelon from Flowers by Michelle invite you to an enchanting hour of creativity. Sign up for the Floral Arranging Workshop on December 4 at 10 a.m. Learn how to craft festive holiday centerpieces and tips on holiday decor. Centennial Hills Hospital will host an End of the Year Holiday Recap-Trivia Lunch 'n Learn, complete with a door prize to the lucky winner on December 6 at 11 a.m. Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick is back again to serve up an awesome holiday lunch on December 11 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Celebrate the season with Commissioner Kirkpatrick and take this opportunity to wish season's greetings to your friends and neighbors. I feel extremely blessed to have worked in this incredible community with its amazing residents for the past 13 years. We have an awesome Lifestyle Team led by Lifestyle Director, Debbie Kent, who works tirelessly to successfully bring first-class events on and off property for the enjoyment of our residents. Debbie, thank you for your inspiration and friendship. I truly appreciate the many contributions of Office Manager, Lori Daniels, including her assistance with The Breeze and advertisers, seminars, keeping track of advertising revenues, and much more. In addition, I want to thank and recognize every Lifestyle team member for their support and friendship, especially during the past year with seminars and other events, including Kotch Bergman, Jan Davis, Fran Klein, Shirley Spivey and Angie Stepp. Kudos to Juan Macias and his Maintenance Team for all they do and keep doing every day to make all of our activities, events, seminars, and more run so smoothly. Thank you to our Administrative Team, Nelenie Hernandez and Carol Garbarino, for their assistance throughout the year. I am grateful to the members of Communications Committee: Board Liaison, Ed Ernest; Chair, Dan Lies; Vice-Chair, Lynda Towers; Wayne Headrick; Joe Caggiano; and Judy Sawitski, who are always ready to assist me with any challenge including the website, The Breeze, Advertiser's Meet 'n' Greets, Health Fairs and more. I would be remiss if I did not thank Dawn and Tony Ferreria, who have designed The Breeze for several years and helped to elevate it to a first-class magazine. Finally, I feel blessed to work for General Manager, Damian Carrasco, who is truly an amazing leader. I want to thank our awesome Board of Directors, led by President Warren Geller, for their leadership and support and letting me do what I do best! If you have any questions or want to share information, please contact me at 702-429-1623 or email twilliamson@suncityaliante.us.

I am excited to share with you what has been taking place this past fall. Near and dear to my heart was our Inaugural Hometown Veterans Block Party that took place at the beginning of Celebrating the one-year anniversary of November. This event celebrated our the North Las Vegas Veterans and veterans and marked the one-year Community Resource Center. anniversary of the City of North Las Ve g a s ' Ve t e r a n s & C o m m u n i t y Resource Center which opened last fall. Music, entertainment, food, and over 80 local vendors made the day truly special. From fun family activities to meaningful connections, it was a day to remember. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event a success and showing our veterans the appreciation they truly deserve!

City Hall staff costume contest winner - “Most Creative Costume.”

Fall also marked another spooktacular Halloween at North Las Vegas City Hall. Each year city staff decorate their offices and invite employees to bring their own little ghouls and goblins for some fun trickor-treating throughout the building. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on our employees' childrens' faces as they explored the various departments, received treats, and experienced the warmth of our City Hall team.

Another exciting announcement - the first of its kind in our city's history – involved a professional sports team bringing their expertise and resources to the City of North Las Vegas. Agora Realty and Management, who is working on several redevelopment projects in the city, has partnered with the Vegas Golden Knights to bring their ice hockey expertise to our city's youth. The Vegas Golden Knights will be managing and programming the existing ice arena where the Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho casinos once stood, starting this month. If pickleball is more your jam, I have news for you in that area as well. The City of North Las Vegas is transforming one of the two standalone basketball courts at Deer Springs Park into two dedicated pickleball courts! These will be the first standalone outdoor pickleball courts in the City of North Las Vegas park system, and we have plans for even more in the future. As we move into the holiday months, I encourage you to keep an eye out for all of the fun, family-friendly events the City of North Las Vegas has planned including our annual, free Holiday Tree Lighting event taking place on November 30 at Liberty Park in front of City Hall, and our Breakfast with Santa at Silver Mesa Recreation Center on December 16. You can keep up-todate on all of the events with our online calendar at https://tinyurl.com/cnlvcalendar.

Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season and a New Year filled with joy and good health,

And remember, as the weather cools down please keep your dogs and pets safe during the cold winter season and follow our Ordinance No. 3053, which requires animals to be properly sheltered and cared for while being kept outdoors.

Yours in service, Richard Cherchio, Ward 4 Councilman

Artificial trees If you're shopping for a new artificial Christmas tree, find one labeled “ fi r e retardant.” This doesn't mean the tree can't catch on fire, but it slows the spread of flames and gives you more time to extinguish it. If the tree is metal, never use electric lights, as they can charge the tree and lead to electrocution. Fresh trees - If you're using a real tree, pick a fresh one with needles that bend rather than break. Cut the trunk to give it a new end, and water the tree all December long. For live trees, be sure to water your tree regularly, keeping the water level well above the trunk base within the Christmas tree stand. Keep the tree away from heat - Always place your tree a minimum of 3 feet from heat sources, including lamps, heating vents, radiators, fireplaces, and candles. Never use lit candles to decorate your tree, artificial or live. Do not place lit candles underneath or near your Christmas tree, and never leave burning candles unattended. continued on page 31

NEIGHBORHOOD NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY BULLETIN: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

COMMITTEES

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Meets every other Friday, 8:30 a.m. Harlan Nelson at hnelson867@cox.net

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

This month, we will discuss crimes from the criminal's point of view. We all think we're smarter than thieves or burglars. But maybe not. The thief or burglar is street smart.

Meets third Friday, 10 a.m. Dan Lies at drlies07@gmail.com

COVENANTS COMMITTEE

In recent months, we have had a number of mailboxes vandalized. Most thieves gain entry by using a crowbar and tearing open the outgoing mail slot. It takes months for the Post Office to replace the box. Residents must go to the Post Office on Camino El Norte to get their mail until the box is replaced. And after the box is replaced, you must go to the Post Office for your new keys.

Meets fourth Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. in the Conference Room

Mark Smith at mas7809@hotmail.com

ELECTION COMMITTEE

Larry Rothstein at lilandlar@aol.com

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Meets last Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. David Grossman at dt.grossman@yahoo.com

What can we do? We should report it to the Post Office because it is a Federal offense. How do we prevent it in the future? We need to become MORE street smart than the criminal. Pick up your mail every afternoon. Don't ever put mail in the outgoing mail slot. Take outgoing mail to the Post Office. The Post Offices on Jones and Camino El Norte both have drive-up boxes. It is safer yet to take your mail into the Post Office and deposit it in the slot inside. The UPS Store in the Smith's shopping center also has a US Mail drop box inside. With the holidays almost here, most of us order packages online. There will be many delivery trucks in the community such as Amazon, UPS, FedEx, USPS and even some unmarked vehicles contracted to make deliveries. The street smart criminal, commonly called a porch pirate, is watching and waiting for that truck. The porch pirate does their Christmas shopping on your front porch or entryway. How do we stop it? Porch pirates never seem to be caught and our stolen packages are never returned, so we need to be vigilant. If you have ordered a package, try to be home waiting for it to be delivered. Watch from the front window or listen for a delivery person to hopefully ring your bell. If you can't be home, ask a neighbor to look out for your package.

During the holidays, friends or family may come to stay for a visit. Your guest will park in your driveway or on the street. Most street smart thieves will look in the vehicle to see if anything is in plain sight, such as a package. The thief will first try the door to see if it's unlocked or just break a window, reach in and grab anything they can. What do we do about it? Never leave anything in plain sight; take packages, clothes, glasses and even a garage door “clicker” into the house or put it in the trunk or covered storage area. Make sure the car is locked and if it has an alarm, be sure to use it. Your Neighborhood Watch Block Captains are here to assist you. If you don't know who your block captain is or you would like more regarding the Sun City Aliante Neighborhood Watch program, contact our Coordinator, Jim Blossey at jimandpatb@embarqmail.com or 775-530-5119. Be safe: if you see something, say something! Your Neighborhood Watch Block Captains

Meets third Thursday, 1 p.m. Wayne Edgerton at wynedge@gmail.com

PATROL COMMITTEE

“JDLR”

What is “JDLR?” It means “Just Doesn't Look Right.” We have lived a lifetime of personal experiences and situations. During your lifetime, you may have come across something that just doesn't look right. It could be visual, physical, a hunch, or a gut feeling. It is a Sixth sense of some sort that causes you to raise your alert antenna. This feeling could come at any time or anywhere. You may experience it up close or at a distance. DO NOT ignore your basic feeling. If it just doesn't look right, use your common sense and basic judgement to make a decision on what to do or distance yourself from the situation. The one thing you should do is always be aware of your surroundings. Nefarious people mostly target someone who appears to be unaware of their surroundings or naive to a situation. As we approach the holidays, please practice the JDLR motto. Police use the JDLR acronym all the time when on patrol. Give it a try and see if you can spot something that just doesn't look right when you're out and about. Then, take the appropriate action to distance yourself from the activity. For information regarding the Sun City Aliante Patrol, contact the Patrol Chairman Phil Zanello at zp9@aol.com or 702-460-9582. Stay alert, stay safe and Happy Holidays.

HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS

DECEMBER 2023

TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS Chanukah or Hanukkah, is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime "Festival of Lights," celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and foods. The Hebrew word Chanukah means "dedication," and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple. This year Chanukah begins on Thursday, December 7. In the second century BCE, the Holy Land was ruled by the Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks), who tried to force the people of Israel to accept Greek culture and beliefs instead of mitzvah observance and belief in the G _d. Against all odds, a small band of faithful but poorly armed Jews, led by Judah the Maccabee, drove the Greeks from the land, reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and rededicated it to the service of G_d. When they sought to light the Temple's Menorah (the seven-branched candelabrum), they found only a single cruse of olive oil that had escaped contamination by the Greeks. Miraculously, they lit the menorah and the one-day supply of oil lasted for eight days, until new oil could be prepared under conditions of ritual purity. To commemorate these miracles, the sages instituted the festival of Chanukah.

CHRISTMAS DAYA RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY

Christmas Day is celebrated by billions of Christians around the world on December 25. It is the annual commemoration of the nativity or the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who is recognized by Christians as the Savior of the World. For Christians, believing that God came into the world in the form of man to atone for the sins of humanity is considered to be the primary purpose for celebrating Christmas. The word Christmas originates from the words Christ's Mass. In old English (first recorded in 1038) it was referred to as Cristesmaesse, which means “Christian Mass.” St. Francis of Assisi began the tradition of singing Christmas carols in church in the 13th century. Popular customs for most Christians today include attending church, exchanging gifts, lighting and decorating Christmas trees and sharing meals with family and friends.

CHRISTMAS DAYA CULTURAL HOLIDAY Christmas Day is also a public holiday in many countries and is celebrated religiously and culturally by millions of people. In the 19th Century, as Americans began to embrace Christmas, they changed it into a family-centered day of peace and nostalgia. Over the years, Americans built Christmas traditions all their own that included many other customs and traditions surrounding the Christmas season, including decorating trees, sending holiday cards, gift-giving and renewing the legend of Santa Claus.

opportunity to gather and discuss the meaning of Kwanzaa. The first night, the black candle in the center is lit (and the principle of umoja/unity is discussed). One candle is lit each evening and the appropriate principle is discussed.

Though often thought of as an alternative to Christmas, many people actually celebrate both. “Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, but a cultural one with an inherent spiritual quality,” Dr. Maulana Karenga writes. “Thus, Africans of all faiths can and do celebrate Kwanzaa, i.e. Muslims, Christians, Black Hebrews, Jews, Buddhists, Baha'i and Hindus, as well as those who follow the ancient traditions of Maat, Yoruba, Ashanti, Dogon, etc.” According to Karenga, everyone can also enjoy Kwanzaa, just as non-Mexicans commemorate Cinco de Mayo and non-Native Americans participate in powwows. On each of the seven nights, the family gathers and lights one of the candles on the Kinara (candleholder), then one of the seven principles is discussed. The principles, called the Nguzo Saba (seven principles in Swahili) are values of African culture which contribute to building and reinforcing community among African-Americans. Kwanzaa also has seven basic symbols which represent values and concepts reflective of African culture. The candle-lighting ceremony each evening provides the

continued from page 14 Lighting the tree - Only purchase strands with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) logo. This means the lights have been verified by this third-party testing company. Also, if you plan to use lights outside, make sure they're rated for outdoor use. Before stringing lights on your tree, check your lights for cracked or missing bulbs and frayed wires. If lights show signs of damage, dispose of the light strand. Use extension cords safely - Christmas lights don't draw much power, but old extension cords can still overheat. Touch the cords periodically to make sure they don't feel hot. Also, be careful not to run cords under furniture or rugs, which could lead to overheating. When using extension cords outside, keep the plugs clear of snow and standing water. Don't overload wall sockets - The US Department of Energy says it's safe to connect 25 energy-efficient LED light strands together. However, the Electrical Safety Foundation cautions against connecting more than three strings of old-fashioned incandescent Christmas lights. If you're still using these, consider upgrading to LED lights this year, which use less energy, run cooler, and are easier to install because you can run so many end-to-end. Don't let the lights run 24/7 - Not only does this waste electricity, but it also causes a safety issue. Unplug your lights when you leave home or go to sleep. You can also plug the decorations into a timer

or light sensor, so they turn on and off automatically. Secure Outside Decorations Properly - While not all decorations require it, larger ones typically need to be anchored. Inflatable decorations, in particular, have to be firmly planted on the ground. If you plan to decorate your roof with reindeers or a sleigh, make sure to secure them as well. Hang lights on insulated hooks - Securing lights with nails, screws, or tacks pose the risk of piercing the cord's insulation and causing electric shock. Hang your lights using insulated hooks to avoid this hazard. To prevent wind damage, fasten outdoor lights securely to the house, trees, support posts, or other structures. Store your lights properly - At the end of the season, pack up your lights in well-sealed plastic containers to prevent water intrusion and rodent damage.

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH BLOCK PARTY

Neighborhood Watch held a block party on October 25. This event provided the opportunity for new Block Captains to meet other Block Captains. Members held a potluck dinner with lots of good food and desserts. Topics discussed included USPS mailboxes, the seasonal problems with porch pirates and the car break-ins. A great time was had by all. The Neighborhood Watch team is composed of approximately 50 Block Captains, who have volunteered to be the “eyes and ears” of the North Las Vegas Police Department. Their mission is to be on alert for your home and safety and observe and report any concerns. Getting involved with Neighborhood Watch is a great way to meet people. Block Captains help residents get acquainted with their neighbors and support the Coordinator by communicating with approximately 15-20 homes in their immediate area. It is their duty to keep in contact with residents about community news and even look after homes if their owners are away. Unfortunately, there are many homes without a Block Captain, so volunteers are always needed for this position. That is why Neighborhood Watch invites new volunteers, especially new residents, to explore the opportunity to serve as a Block Captain and help them make a difference. If you would like to learn more about the Neighborhood Watch program, please contact Jim Blossey at 775-530-5119 or email jimandpatb@embarqmail.com.

'Tis the season to be jolly. It is hard to believe the end of 2023 is nearing. Food, fun, and friends equal a good time. The Club is excited to announce two members have stepped up to co-lead the group this coming year, Sheryl Hammer and Steve Besefske. In addition to the activities they have been doing, they hope to have even more opportunities to socialize, have fun, and even make a difference. A special thank you to Dan Lies, their founding and fabulous leader since the groups inception. We are very grateful for all he has done and his willingness to continue to mentor us. The LGBT+ Social Group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Community Center. They check in about what is happening in their lives, support each other, support LGBT issues, have some laughs, connect, and make friends. CHARTERED CLUBS

PICKLEBALL Want to learn how to play pickleball? Free lessons are given by Sun City Aliante Pickleball Club members, Sarah Smith and Paul Wagner on Tuesdays at 5 p.m.

3,000 elementary school kids each week (who otherwise would not have a food source on weekends). Checks can be made to either Goodie Two Shoes or Serving Our Kids Foundation. If you choose one of these options, please attach the tag to your donation envelope.

A hybrid of badminton, ping pong and tennis, Pickleball was the fastest-growing sport in the country from 2019 to 2021, according to an industry group that tracks sport participation. Seniors love Pickleball for its social engagement, competitive fulfillment, lower impact on joints, and the game's adaptability to various skill levels. It promotes fitness and fun, making it popular among older adults. Among all age groups, pickleball serves as a social club that sparks joy and camaraderie.

There are many options to choose from and please consider donating an item or two. Please drop off your donations no later than Wednesday, December 13. Place your unwrapped gifts or envelopes in our red collection box and attach the tag you took from the tree. Donations of wrapping paper, ribbon, bows and stocking stuffers, are always welcome. (If you take a tag and then change your mind, please return the tag to the tree as soon as possible; so, no child will be left without a gift.)

For more information, contact Sarah at 702-635-4629 or sabs537519@gmail.

POKER CLUB

Congratulations to Poker C l u b To u r n a m e n t Winners shown (l-r) 2nd place – Renee Swanson; 3rd place Les Simms and 1st place Vicky Ingertson holding her trophy.

SENIORS WITH WARM HEARTS THE HOLIDAYS ARE UPON US ... The Seniors with Warm Hearts' Christmas “Giving” Tree is in full swing. This year the tags on the tree will be for the children and parents of S.A.F.E. House as well as the homeless and at-risk teens supported by Street Teens. Donations will continue through Wednesday, December 13. You can choose a tag from the tree for S.A.F.E. House with a child's wish, or if you prefer, you may donate a children's gift of your choice. Gifts are needed for all ages: boys and girls, newborns to 18 years, and there are tags for the parents too. For those who want to help Street Teens, tags are also available with requests for general type items and gift cards. If you have travel size toiletries from a recent vacation and don't plan to use them, please consider donating these types of items as well. On the tree this year, they also have additional alternative tags for those who may want to give but may not want to shop. For $25.00 or more, you can donate a Restaurant Gift Card or a check to Goodie Two Shoes. They are holding their annual fundraising gala and the silent auction items which will include the gift cards. The proceeds from their gala will go toward supplying a new pair of shoes for children in need. Checks can also be donated to their organization for their continued work. The other option is to donate $25.00 to Serving Our Kids Foundation to help them acquire the necessary items to provide weekend food to over

Senior with Warm Hearts would also like to send out a very big “Thank You” for the generosity you have shown with our Christmas “Giving” Tree and throughout the year and best wishes for a Joyous, Healthy and Happy Holiday Season. Their next meeting will be Thursday, December 14 at 11 a.m. in the Activity Room where members will sort the gifts they receive from their “Giving” Tree and distribute them to the respective organizations. For more information about this event or about our group, contact Carol Hoyt at 702647-1289 or Karen Nutto at 201-787-9391.

SUN CITY ALIANTE STEPPERS

Stepping Out This Holiday Season

Continuing to perform, the Steppers led by Margo Young recently visited LUMINA, a residential community which highlights care for people with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. This facility offers a contemporary lifestyle with great staff. The Steppers were honored to be a part of the lovely program planned by Mary Mancini. As the holidays approach, this Sun City Aliante senior dance ensemble will join our community members at the Festival of Lights on Thursday evening, December 7. VETERAN'S AUXILIARY

Veteran's Auxiliary members pause for a photo while serving up a delicious Italian meal. Shown (l-r) are Plyllis Knudsen, Martha Martin, and Reagny Pixlar.

Also, November 4 was Pasta Night, one of the Auxiliary's joint events with the Veteran's Club of Sun City Aliante. This was quite an undertaking requiring 70 volunteer slots to fill. This year, they were unprepared for a record request of 60 take-out meals! Our residents again showed the Vets and Auxiliary wonderful support! Special thanks to Reyes Coca-Cola and Rosati's for their contributions toward the event's success. Anyone who wants to support our veterans and military and is interested in joining the Auxiliary is welcome. You do NOT have to have a veteran or military family member to join! Regular meetings of the Veteran's Auxiliary are held the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the Vista Room at 9 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19. For further information, please email Julie Tomlin at jtomlin55@msn.com or 208-320-8115 or Hjordy Wagner at hwizwag@gmail.com or 715-5299728

VETERAN'S CLUB Hello everyone, winter is now here. I hope you are enjoying the weather. The month of November was a busy one. We had a Pasta Night on November 4, and it was a huge success as we sold out. The food was catered by Rosati's Pizzeria and the food was excellent. In honor of Veterans Day, we raised Flags on November 11 and took them down on November 18. The November Veteran's Club meeting was held on November 21, and McDonalds gift cards were given out to Veterans who attended the meeting.

The Sun City Aliante Veterans Auxiliary has been a busy group holding its largest fundraiser, the Garage Sale, October 14 and 15; regular meetings for October and November; supporting the Craig Ranch Military & First Responder Appreciation; delivering clothes and supplies to Help USA; plus delivering items to the Nellis Active Military Support. Members also helped with treat bags for children of deployed parents at an event October 26 sponsored by Deployed Love at Nellis AFB.

I want to wish everyone a very happy holiday season, and my prayers go out to all of the members of our U.S. armed services who are deployed at home and abroad and hope they all come home safe and sound.

Thank you to our community residents for supporting the Auxiliary's Garage Sale!! It was phenomenal!

Marc Hollander Veterans Club Chair

I want to give a shout out to all the veterans who assisted us with Pasta Night. The members of the Auxiliary were terrific, and a special thank you to the youth from the ROTC Unit.
