Preface
Introducing yoga to children at an early age can help them develop healthy lifestyle habits. Posture perfection is not expected from children in Children Yoga. Children should enjoy the practice of yoga. Yoga is breathing, stretching and relaxing.
Pattern Makers design stories which allow children to apply their imaginations in order to make the yoga practice interesting and fun. The stories unfold during the yoga workshop. It inspires them to stay open minded, to learn be aware, and to improve their concentration and balance.
Yoga is a science with proven health benefits. Practicing yoga is both a physical and mental exercise that can help cope with stress, strengthen focus, and nurture a true sense of well-being.

Yoga is simple like ABC. Awareness, Breathe, and Concentrate.
Yoga is about stretching, breathing and relaxing.
Every experience is unique to every individual.
The effects of yoga is powerful. Yoga is simple. It will make us calm and happy.
COMING OF THE UNIVERSE
The Big Bang theory is an explanation of how the universe began with an explosion approximately 13,000,000,000 (billion) years ago.
STAR
Like people, stars are born, they grow old, and they die. Through the practice of yoga, inner strength can develop.

ATOM
The human body is made of atoms.
An atoms is mostly empty space.
Atoms form into molecules. Molecules form cells in the body. Cells need oxygen to function. Oxygen is vital to the human body.
YOGA
Yoga is an art, science of living to connect the mind and the body.
SUN SALUTATION
Honour and respect are yoga ethics.
The Sun Salutation honours the Sun for supporting life on Earth.
HUMAN EVOLUTION
Scientist believe people first appeared on Earth from 15,000 to 40,000 years ago. People migrated from place to place. They hunted and farmed. One tribe to another, they evolved and passed down stories.
HATHA YOGA
Hatha yoga is one of the oldest forms of yoga. It is one type of the traditional yogic practice.
‘HA’ means Sun
- warm, light, active, happy, positive
‘THA’ means Moon
- cool, dark, passive, sad, negative
Hatha Yoga concentrates on physical health and mental wellness. Learn to balance the body and mind.
SYSTEM OF THE BODY
The human body is a very complex system. The body requires energy. Our stomach digests the food we eat, turning into glucose, which provides energy.
ASANAS
Through the practice of yoga, our physical body can develop strength and flexibility. These postures aid in keeping a child’s spine flexible.
*Cobra compress and open the spine, create spinal changes
*Rabbit stretch spine, maximum extension

stretch front part of the body & upper back muscles, back of the neck
SYMBOLS
Symbols represent ideas and qualities. Ancient symbols used in yoga are:
‘Hamsa’ removes negative energy.
‘OM’ meaning the seed of creation.
‘Lotus’ means purity, beauty and growth.
MUDRAS
Mudras link the brain to the body, relieve pain, change the mood, stimulate endorphins and increase vitality.
DHYANA is calming.
(place right palm onto left palm)
ANJALI is composure.
(place both palms together)
GYAN bring concentration, creativity, and knowledge
(palms face upward, connect thumb, and index finger)
SELF CARE
Self-Care should be a part of our daily activity. It is an action one must take to their own health and well being; such as showering, eating well, exercising, thinking good thoughts and resting.
The human body is like a flower. The skin, muscles, and veins are like the petals. The stem of the flower is like our spine. To keep the spine healthy, it is important to sit and stand up straight.
MEDITATE
Breathing can create a space in the mind. This empowering tool can help manage stress, anxiety and sadness.
Learn the tool of breathing is meditating. Sitting still for 2- 11 minutes while focusing on breathing. Let the mind settle in the ‘NOW’ and allows one to see the beauty in the ‘PRESENT’.
FAMILY TREE
Place child, parent(s), guardian(s)/ grandparent(s) initials in the circles. Always honour and be thankful for your loved ones. Love each other.
POSSIBILITIES
The Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old. There has always been an array of diversity on Earth. Species evolve and die, yet there are still countless life forms to be discovered.
WARRIOR & TRIANGLE
Determination is developed while holding a yoga posture.
Through a consistent practice, transformation within can happen.
HAPPINESS
Humans are interconnected with nature. There is positive effect, vitality and life satisfaction from nature. People can become happier when they are connected with nature.

Don’ts ‘Yama’ is a self regulating practice:
*non-violence

COSMOS
Understanding the cosmos was a part of life during ancient times. The skywatchers included the Babylonians, Mayans, and ancient Indians. The ancient Chinese used a lunar calendar around 1950BC. Scholars believed a rare celestial event occurred where the sun, the moon, five planets all lined up in the eastern sky at dawn.
SAVASANA
Savasana means Dead Body Pose.
Practice laying still for one to two minutes.
Take rest daily.
PRESERVATION
Patterns Makers designed books to guide children in understanding the beauty of life. It is a holistic approach of the Universe, the Coming of life and the Human Evolution.
