The text for this piece is taken from four poems by Marci Vogel: three from her collection

Your tongue in the language of a stranger, and one written specifically for this music. The text in its final version (as I have arranged it) is as follows:

white stone towers the quarries white stone winds the roads to a room that was an oubliette of forgetting source of every wailing a steeple bell rings cumulous into the sky if you ask one who has left her village she will respond not why but how by boat, by horse, by foot sole pressed to the earth alone â&#x20AC;&#x201C; her body reverses over the bridge she once played scales with blindfolded hands

wished <<bon chance>> to every root under mounds of earth in the unfinished crypt her breast bleeding underground binding the dead to the living who return white stone in their mouths
