Ste. Anne Library Thanks Summer Reading Club Sponsers Bibliothèque Ste. Anne Library would like to thank the following businesses for their generous donation for their Summer Reading Club program... eBytes, Staples, Ste Anne Co-op, Superstore, Pro Hardware, Safeway, Sobeys and Canadian Tire. The prizes were greatly appreciated and the donations made the Summer Reading Program successful. The Summer Reading Club encouraged children to keep up with their reading during the summer and they had fun participating.
Art and Lorraine Sabot with some of their volunteers in front of 204 plus hampers they assemble every other Tuesday. An illness strikes. A sudden layoff at work leaves you stuck. Whatever the reason, sometimes life gets tough and you find it hard to keep food on the table. That’s why Art and Lorraine Sabot started The Life Enrichment Food Bank. With a few outstanding volunteers every other Tuesday they have been making the trip to Winnipeg Harvest from the Richer area to pick up a one ton truck load of food, drive it out to Ste. Genevieve community center, then spend 4 to 5 hours assembling over 204 hampers
to be picked up or delivered to families in Ste. Anne and surrounding areas. They ensure the families in our community, as well as surrounding communities, won’t go without groceries when the need for extra support hits. The food security they provide has been under some stress the past few months. “Recently we have been burdened with food transportation issues, the truck keeps breaking down, 2 tires flew off on the highway on our way back from the city with a load of grocer-
ies... I’m lucky to be standing here today it was very scary,” says Art. The truck has finally been parked because the cost to fix it is just too great. They now have to rent a Uhaul truck on hamper days to ensure the hampers get to the families in need. “This is our busy time of year. When it starts getting cold out our numbers jump due to layoffs and illness. We will just keep on renting the Uhaul to provide the help that is greatly needed in our communities,” says Lorraine.
After all their troubles the Sabots still carry a very positive outlook and never let their trouble discourage them from the task at hand. Art and Lorraine feel that god will provide them with what they need to keep helping the people that need it. The food bank gets little outside support or funding. The food is gathered locally and the balance of it comes from Winnipeg Harvest. Local Police Officer Honored Recently a Sergeant on the Ste. Anne Police Force Sergeant Doug Davis was recognized by the Governor General for over 30 years of loyal and exemplary service to law enforcement in Canada. He also received an award from the Premier of Ontario for over 30 years of service in that province. He also received the First Bar medal given to a serving police officer who has completed 30 or more years of exemplary service in Canada. Sergeant Davis provides the Town of Ste. Anne with leadership and supervision in relation to criminal investigations. Administratively Sergeant Davis is responsible for numerous functions including managing court and CPIC functions.

replaced two wooden bridge constructed in the 1870s. The bridge was constructed in 1921 at a cost of about $12,000. Designated as a municipally significant historic site in 1987, the bridge was used for local traffic until it closed to all but pedestrians and cyclists in 2012. Its historic status was removed in early 2013 and the bridge was closed on October 4, 2013 to pedestrians and cyclists and has been dismantled and replaced by culverts.
Going Hunting? Here are some tips to make your experience a safer one. Fall is the time of year when many outdoor enthusiasts dust off their hunting gear and head out to various parts of rural Manitoba. A hunting trip can easily be ruined should an accident occur. Getting lost or a just a sprained ankle mixed in with cold, wet weather can easily become a life-threatening emergency. Every year, RCMP detachments across Manitoba are called upon to look for missing or overdue hunters. Here are some tips from the to make your hunting experience a safer one: - Get a detailed map of the area you are hunting, review it before you leave, and carry it with you in the bush. - Carry a compass or GPS and know how to use it. If you get lost, hug a tree (stay put). - Fall weather can change quickly. Carry a simple survival kit and be prepared for an unexpected overnight stay in the bush. The survival kit should contain a knife, a whistle, water, waterproof matches, and first aid supplies. - Know your hunting partners' physical limitations, as well as your own, and don’t push your partners or yourself beyond those limits. - Carry a cell phone. Many phones are equipped with GPS technology that will help to find you. - Wear hunter orange apparel that will make you more visible in dense forest. - Always let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return. Enjoy the outdoors and stay safe!

A Little Laugh... A man and a woman were having dinner in a fine restaurant. Their waitress, taking another order at a table a few paces away noticed that the man was slowly sliding down his chair and under the table, with the woman acting unconcerned. The waitress watched as the man slid all the way down his chair and out of sight under the table. Still, the woman dining across from him appeared calm and unruffled, apparently unaware that her dining companion had disappeared. After the waitress finished taking the order, she came over to the table and said to the woman, 'Pardon me, ma'am, but I think your husband just slid under the table.' The woman calmly looked up at her and replied firmly, 'No he didn't. He just walked in the door.'
