After a lengthy career in politics, Dawson Trail MLA Ron Lemieux says he will not re-run in the April 19 Provincial Election.

According to news reports, Lemieux had a bit of a health scare while vacationing in Arizona which led to him re-evaluating his life. He has decided to spend more time focusing on his family. He is the last veteran MLA to drop out of running, and while he did hint before that previous departures of his colleagues will influence his decision, his reasoning’s now are focused on family.

Lemieux has not only served as the local MLA since 1999 when he defeated former PC MLA Ben Sveinson, but has held various cabinet posts under both former Premier Gary Doer and current Premier Greg Selinger.

A new candidate for the NDP in the Dawson Trail Constituency has not been announced.

Congratulation to Jerika Carriere. Her peace poster was sponsored by the Ste. Anne Lions Club and made it all the way to the top in the district. She was invited to the Lion’s mid-winter convention to attend the Governors banquet and awards ceremony where she received a trophy and certificate from the Ste. Anne Lions and a cheque for $100 US from the District.

Upcoming Events Baseball and Girls Softball Registration - Will be held at the Blumenort Rec Center from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday March 3rd.

Casino Bus - Join us for a fun filled day. Our next trip is Tuesday, March 8th, 2016. We leave Steinbach at 8:30 a.m. with additional pickups in Ste. Anne and Paradise Village. We visit McPhillips Street Station in the morning and Club Regent in the afternoon. Must be 18 years of age or older. Prizes, cash and giveaways every trip. Story Time at the Bibliothèque Sainte Anne Library - Every Tuesday at 2pm from January 12th to March 15th with Jenn - Every Wednesday at 2pm Starting February 17th to March 23rd with Atalia Come and enjoy story time, songs, crafts with your preschooler.

The Kingdom of God - Come and hear Pastor Ed Hildebrand on Friday, March 11 at 7 pm at the Seine River Banquet Hall 80-A Arena Rd in Ste Anne...Ed Hildebrand, pastor of Seine River Church in Lorette, will share stories of God’s amazing power which he and their team experienced in Uganda and Kenya in January of 2016. He will also pray for any who need God’s touch, whether regarding some sickness or other need.

Lions Club Donates to Local Food Bank

The local Ste. Anne food bank, the Accueil Kateri Centre, recently had a visit from the Ste. Anne Lions Club where they were presented with a donation of $1,300 raised through a recent fundraiser evening of coffee and entertainment.

The visit was very informational as the Lion member also discovered how the centre’s process works.

The center currently helps 28 local families with a food hamper every two weeks.

The center is located at 132 Centrale Ave with the entrance just behind the Knights of Columbus Hall.

If you find yourself in need of a little extra food at any time, registration is easy. You can reach the centre at 204-371-4984. The centre is open every other Wednesday between 2 pm and 4 pm.

If you would like to help out with a food donation there are donation bins located at Ste. Anne Builders Supply, Ste. Anne Groceries, Ste. Anne Catholic Church, Ste. Anne Dayspring Fellowship Church and Burnell’s Food Plus in Richer.
