Time To Get Creative With Winter “Art�

Ste. Anne is getting ready for the annual snow sculpture contest. Residents were and are busy carving horizontal snow blocks this past weekend to be ready to be judged by the Cultural Committee on February 8.

So throw on the scarf and take time out to wander the community to take in all the best of winter art.

The Town of Ste. Anne have decided to only offer the horizontal snow blocks this year due to the safety hazards the vertical blocks could create.

Strawberry Raspberry Trifle This month is a special time for sweet heart's to celebrate with Valentine’s Day!, so here is a lovely light dessert you can prepared for your loved one for an after dinner treat.

Prep time only 20 mins.

3 cups of cold fat- free milk 2 packages (1 oz ea ) sugar-free instant white chocalate pudding 1 prepared angel food cake (14 oz), cut up into 1 inch cubes 3 cups of sliced fresh strawberries 3 cups fresh raspberries 1 carton (8 oz ) frozen reduced-ft whipped topping, thawed 3 whole strawberries, quartered In a large bowl, whish milk and pudding for 2 mins. Let stand for 2 mins or until soft-set.

Place a third of the cake cubes in a trifle bowl or 3-1/2-qt. glass serving bowl. top with a third of the pudding, 1 cup sliced strawberries,1-1/2 cups raspberries and a third of the whipped topping. Layer with a third of cake and pudding.1 cup strawberries and a third of the whipped topping.

Top with remaining cake, pudding, strawberries, raspberries and whipped topping. Garnish with quartered strawberries. Serve immediately or cover and chill until serving. Yields 14 servings. This would be a real winner after dinner.

Evening of Coffee and Entertainment The Ste. Anne Lions Club will be hosting their second 2nd Annual Evening of Coffee and Entertainment on Saturday February 28 from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The evening will take place at Club Jovial 157 Centrale ave and everyone is welcome to attend.

There will be a music performance by The Chammartin Family, Coffee, Tea homemade goodies, a silent auction and more.

There are limited tickets to this event and they are only $5 each.

Tickets are available from any Ste. Anne Lions Member or you can call Pat at (204) 422-8259.

The money raised at this function will be used to help fund both Project Pride and the Peace Poster Contest at the 4 local schools this year.

Nearly 10 new candy “conversation heart” sayings are introduced each year. Recent additions have included “Yeah Right,” “Puppy Love,” and “Call Home.”

Started by a group of feminists, “Quirkyalone Day” is celebrated on February 14 as an alternative to Valentine’s Day. It is geared toward people who “resist the tyranny of coupledom.” Another alternate Valentine’s Day celebration is SAD (Single Awareness Day), which reminds people that they don’t need to be in a relationship to celebrate life Famous people born on Valentine’s Day include John Barrymore (1882), Jimmy Hoffa (1913), Jack Benny (1894), Carl Bernstein (1944), Renée Fleming (1959), and Florence Henderson (1934).

Teachers receive the most Valentine’s cards, followed by children, mothers, and wives. Children between the ages of 6-10 exchange more than 650 million Valentine cards a year.

On Valentine’s Day, many people buy flowers. Different colored roses have different meanings. Red means love, yellow means friendship, and pink means friendship or sweetheart. Red carnations mean admiration, white carnations mean pure love, red chrysanthemums mean love, forget-me-nots mean true love, primrose means young love, and larkspur means an open heart.
