School Taxes Set to Rise The Seine River School Board announced Tuesday that taxpayers will see an increase of 3.37% which works out to $55.25 on a home assessed at $268,000. Superintendent Mike Borgfjord says most of the increase is due to an enrollment growth of almost 4% this last school year. “Six teachers were put into the budget, three at the high school level and three in K-8. A small amount was put into reading recovery and some resource positions, and a half time occupational therapist.” Borgfjord says the board also utilized the surplus to fund some high school infrastructure for technology. “Needs for computer labs can be quite costly, so the board did use some money from the surplus to fund that to try to minimize the impact,” he said. “The amount of surplus is estimated at 3.2%, the province has a recommendation of 4% or under, so we are below the surplus amount, and I know the board took that into account.”
Food Bank Seeks Coordinator Accueil Kateri Centre Inc is seeking a coordinator for the Ste. Anne food bank. This is a volunteer position, which requires approximately 15 to 20 hours per month and responsibilities include registering clients organized according to their family’s needs, coordination of volunteers, managing the inventory and coordinating food distribution. According to Aurèle Boisvert, President of the food bank, they are looking for someone who shows empathy towards people in need, has organizational skills, has the ability to work independently and in a team environment, good communication and interpersonal skills, and has knowledge of both French and English.
