Local Strongman Seeks Police Assistance

Kmet attempting to set a new Guinness World Record in 2015 at the Gimli’s Interlake Dragway by pushing a 2,400 lb Saturn SC1. He volunteers at Siloam Mission and raised $27,000 while helping to raise awareness for the city’s homeless.

Local strongman Rob Kmet is a two-time world record holder. In 2005 he set a world record pushing a car for 70.28 kilometres and later in 2006 broke his own mark in the tandem car push by pushing a car 80.86 kilometers. Recently he asked the Ste. Anne Police for assistance during a warm up for an upcoming vehicle push fundraiser.

Communities Pulls Together to Raise Funds to “Rescue Sarah�

Restaurants, local businesses, golf tournaments, bake sales, bath bombs, lemonade, dares and challenges, raffle tickets, pizza sales so many things happening in town and the rural municipality to help raise $50,000 to Rescue Sarah from the Island, one of STARS biggest fundraising events of the year.

To date Sarah has reached 60% of her goal with just over $30,000 in donations. The latest fundraiser was put on my a local boy, just 6 years old. Raymond decided to do a lemonade stand/bake sale to do his part to help STARS. After he attended the Dare Sarah for STARS event that took place at the CO-OP where he had so much fun challenging Sarah to a dance off, he decided he wanted to do something himself to raise funds. With the help of his mom Cynthia and some friends they worked together to whip up some baking and lemonade. Half of the funds raised, a whopping $329.50, was donated to Rescue Sarah 2020. Raymond is saving his half for a new bike.

Time To Slow Down Death by Chocolate Zucchini Bread

INGREDIENTS 1/2 c. (1 stick) melted butter, plus more for pan 1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder, +more for pan 1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. kosher salt 1 c. sugar 1 large egg 1 large egg yolk 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract 2 c. grated zucchini (from 1 large or 3 small) 2/3 c. semisweet chocolate chips Flaky sea salt DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350°. Butter a 9”-x-5” loaf pan and dust with cocoa powder, tapping out any excess. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

In another large bowl, stir together sugar, egg, and egg yolk until smooth, 1 minute.

Add melted butter and vanilla and mix until smooth, then fold in zucchini.

Gradually add flour mixture, then fold in chocolate chips. Transfer batter to prepared pan.

Bake until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean, about 50 minutes.

Let bread cool in pan 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Sprinkle with flaky sea salt, slice, and serve.

Comité culturel de Sainte-Anne AGM The Comité culturel de Sainte-Anne Inc. held their postponed Annual General Meeting for the 2019-2020 year (usually held in early spring after its fiscal year) on Wednesday, August 19. In respecting the guidelines to ensure a safe environment, the meeting was held outside at 304 Centrale Avenue, and attendees brought their own chairs, used hand sanitizer and followed social distancing protocols.

On the agenda were the yearly financial reports, the adoption of last year’s minutes, a list of activities undertaken along with those not able to continue, the president’s message, and acknowledgement and recognition to various volunteers for their involvement as well as some past board members.

The Comité culturel de Sainte-Anne Inc. also introduced their new board members, Carmelle St. Vincent, Mireille Sherwood and Safariate Guidi (absent) besides the existing members, Carole Lavack, president, Irène Carrière, vice-president, Jacinthe Blais, secretary and Suzanne Huberdeau, treasurer.

Diane M Connelly, the committee’s director, reported on the effect of

the pandemic on past unfinished projects and how it will affect the planning of upcoming activities and plans. The Club de lecture, organized to promote and encourage reading in French, will resume on August 27th at their office on 112 Centrale Avenue and, weather permitting, will set up outside. Another activity going ahead is their Fête de la Culture Days and will again this year be a “Marche Culturelle de Poker Walk Culturally” held on September 19, where one can win a money prize, thanks to their sponsors, for the best poker hand.

Irène Carrière, vice-president, thanked Danic Smith, who played the national anthem, Thérèse Chaput for her devotion and task to deliver all their posters all year around town in any kind of weather, to Martyne Laliberté for presid-

ing over the meeting so efficiently and Réal Sarrasin who continually helps the committee. Special thanks to Léon Tétreault who finished 2 terms and gave his time relentlessly and a sincere recognition to Nicole Trudeau who was on the board for 24 years and held all seats from director to President, Vice-president, Secretary and Member at large.
