Lions Raise $2,000 for Local Food Bank Ste. Anne Lions Club presented $2,000 to the Accueil Kateri Food Bank.

The funds were raised from the 6th annual Ste. Anne Lions “Evening of Coffee and Entertainment” held this past February. More than 160 people attended resulting in a sold out event at the Paradise Village Recreation Centre. It featured Laurie Sutherland as Patsy Cline. The foodbank serves up to 60 families on a bi-weekly basis with food hampers as well as cooking lessons and other basic life skills such as how to budget and how bank accounts work, etc. If you would like to donate, check out the food bank’s website: www.accueilkatericentre.ca

Bulky Waste On May 14 & 17, 2019 on your respective garbage day, the town will accept/pick up bulky waste. What is considered bulky waste: “an item or thing having weight which exceeds 32kgs (75 lbs.) or a total dimension which exceeds 3 cubic meters (7 cubic yards) and without limiting the generality of the foregoing includes appliances, furniture, auto parts, large crates.”

Annual Ricky Cup Ball Hockey Tournament Over the past 5 years, a group of friends have been running a 4-on-4 ball hockey tournament in the Town of Marchand in Memory of a son, brother, uncle and friend, Rick Lamontagne.

Ricky passed away in a tragic car accident while on his way home from work, out in Alberta. His family and friends were devastated to lose such a great and loved individual in their lives far too soon.

Ricky was loved by anyone and everyone that was lucky enough to know him. He was such a kind soul, that was always willing to help anyone in need.

Ricky had always talked about wanting to organise a sporting event within his hometown of Marchand. An event where he could bring the community together, while raising funds that he could put back into the community, with hopes to make it a better place for everyone.

Unfortunately, his time came much too soon, and Ricky never was able to create this event. So, some of Rick’s close friends got together and asked permission to Rick’s family to organise a 4-on-4 Ball Hockey tournament in Rick’s honour. They were touched with the idea and agreed under three conditions. The first was to assure they were involved in any and all aspects of the fundraiser. The second was that they got to pick out and purchase the Trophy. The third was that all the proceeds were going to be put back within the community in areas they agree upon.

Once everything was agreed upon, the Ricky Cup was created and has become an annual event that is run out in Marchand at the outdoor rink.

We have teams join together from allover South-Eastern MB to support this great cause. There is a dance/social on the Saturday night, with Silent Auction, 50/50 and looney Stick draws.

Each year this event continues to grow.

All the proceeds raised are put right back into the community of Marchand, where Ricky was born and raised.

The Ricky Cup has donated 2 years to the Breakfast for learning Club at Abrogate school, the new play structure at the Marchand Park, and helped with costs of replacing the roof at the Marchand Community Church.

This year will be the 5th Annual Ricky Cup, and Rick’s Mom, Doreen and Dad, Randy, along with sisters Krystal and Brittany, and Rick’s nephew Mason, would like to thank everyone involved in organising and making this

“We are so proud and blessed of all the true friends that Rick had. We are overwhelmed with all the support, hard work and dedication that everyone puts in year after year to make this fundraising event a success, that allows us to make even a small amount of difference within the community in Rick’s honour. We would love to thank Moe and Angele Ouellet, Dave and Denise Gagnon, Roxanne Chabot, Dan Chabot and to everyone that has donated, volunteered or contributed to the Ricky Cup. None of this would be possible without all of you.”

The Ricky Cup is looking for Silent Auction donations for the Social that will be held on Saturday May 25th at the Marchand Community Club. They are also looking for any monetary donations that would be put right back into the outdoor rink for some renovations on boards and up keep. They want to keep this fundraiser going year after year in order to honour Ricky’s memory.

Zucchini Pancakes

Total Time: 20m Yield: 10-12 pancakes Ingredients 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1 1/2 tsp white or apple cider vinegar pinch of stevia, or 1 1/2 tbsp pure maple syrup 1/4 cup milk of choice (Decrease by 1 1/2 tbsp if using maple syrup) (60g) 1/3 cup finely grated zucchini, loosely packed (60g) 1 tbsp oil or more milk of choice 1/2 cup spelt, white, or Arrowhead Mills gluten free flour (65g) 3 tbsp rolled oats (15g) optional 1/4 tsp cinnamon scant 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder mini chocolate chips, optional

Instructions Whisk together the first 6 ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, stir together all remaining ingredients, then pour wet into dry and whisk to form a batter. (If batter is too thin—which might be the case, depending on the flour you’ve used—just add a little extra flour until you achieve a pancake-like batter.) For fluffiest results, refrigerate the batter at least 15 minutes before proceeding. Grease a medium skillet and place over medium heat. Once hot, drop on small ladles of batter.

When the edges begin to look dry, flip and cook one additional minute before removing from the skillet. It may be necessary to re-grease the skillet between batches to prevent sticking. You can freeze extra pancakes if desired, placing a layer of parchment or wax paper between each pancake.
