Winter Wonderland At Our Doorstep In the Town of Ste Anne Free Public Skating in town at the Maurice Chaput Arena, 55 Arena Road. Every Sunday from 6 pm to 7 pm ending in March 2022. Public Health Orders are in effect. Masks are to be worn at all times.

There is an outdoor rink located behind the arena and skating trails located along the Seine River access to trails in the Redemptoriste Park, behind the Villa Youville.

Additionally, the Town of Ste. Anne has snowshoes residents can sign out from the office. If you’d like to try out some winter fun you can Email or call for more info: 204-4225293 or rec@steanne.ca Paradise Walking Trails are east of the town, on the west side of Paradise Road. You can park at the pump station or the recycling building and head west to find the maze of trails that were blazed by

the “Original 5” in 2002. There is lots to see along the way.

Richer Dawson Trail Park offers a large outdoor covered skating rink, skating trails around the park leading to another outdoor rink, a tobogganing hill, picnic tables, large and small fire pits around the park.

Monominto Trails offer trails for walking, snowshoeing and Ski Trails. The trail begins at the parking lot located at the corner of Hwy 501 and Monominto Rd. There are no washroom facilities located on site.

Purple line is the tracked groomed trails, Orange and Red Trails are uniquely dedicated to cross-country skiers, the blue trail is a multiuse trail. Geocaching, which is an outdoor treasure hunt using GPS enabled devices, is also available along the Monominto Trail. There

are 16 caches located throughout the 4 trails onsite.

Hi Fellow Readers...

Guess what this month is? IT’S I LOVE TO READ MONTH!!!

February is a special month dedicated for promoting the love of reading and being read to.

Many people don’t know about the intentions of a Little Free Library so let me quickly explain. It’s about connecting community and literacy together at an affordable NO cost! At our Little Free Library we don’t require you to leave a book... we encourage you to take a book and enjoy!

Who else loves the smell of a book? Raise your hand - don’t be shy.

We have lots of books in stock waiting for you, and yes, we are always willing to take new donations. I believe access to reading materials is important. Let me will tell you about something I just learnt about. It’s a free app for those who prefer digital access. The Libby App - it gives you access to digital copies of books from your local library as well as audio books! There are many resources at our finger tips to offer access to reading materials for all ages and abilities.

In celebration of I LOVE TO READ MONTH, our Little Free Library will be giving away 3 gift packages, one aimed for adults, another for teens and the other for children. To enter the draw please sign our guest book in the library with name and date and book you took, and/or send us a picture of you visiting our Little Free Library on our Facebook page.

Ste. Genevieve Ski Trail is 1.1km - the starting point is from the entrance to the backfield from the Ste. Genevieve Community Centre Landmark Ski Trail is 2.5 km - the starting point is at the parking lot of the Landmark Kinsmen Community Centre La Broquerie Ice Skating Trail is up and running again this year.It is built beside the community walking path whic is located behind the

HyLife Centre Arena in La Broquerie.

There is parking available then you walk down the trail to the bales of hay where you can sit and put your skates on. The town has a historical trail with its series of interpretive and virtual content signs strategically located in historical areas of the community.

Additionally, the HyLife Centre Arena hosts their public skating on Sundays from 12 - 2 pm and public Sticks & Pucks on Tuesdays from 4 - 4:45 pm.

Death Café Curiosity?

In the same fashion that people gather to experience a grief circle, the similar trend happens at a death café. Wikipedia defines this event as a scheduled non-profit get-together for the purpose of talking about death over food and drink, usually tea and cake. The goal of these non-profit groups is to educate and help others become more familiar with the end of life.

Some death cafes I have attended are quite structured, in the way that conversation is guided by a format, or media if you will such as the Death Deck. In appearance, the Death Deck resembles a deck of larger playing cards with multiple choice and open ended questions, with the intention to encourage thought provoking conversations focused on death and dying. While some questions and possible answers have a humorous undertone; it is dependant on the mood of the group as to the degree of sincerity taken into context. In other instances, the dialogue is less structured and follows a more natural flow with the host acting as a moderator to keep topics pertinent and guests centered on the subject matter. Like grief circles, there are usually some basic housekeeping rules related to respect and support.

Participants need be able to express

their feelings openly, considering it is a space in which we inevitably come to reveal significantly vulnerable thoughts and emotions.

Pre-pandemic times, these meetings were usually held in a public place; perhaps a small hall where a group could establish a sense of community and foster connections. Now the preferred venue is online in a virtual setting, and while this is more problematic to develop the ‘personal touch’, it’s definitely not impossible and a great reason to stop at your local bakery for a well deserved indulgence to accompany a favorite beverage. Also, very important to note that it is not a counselling session, but rather a discussion group.

30 Minute Ginger Beef

Thinly sliced beef, fried until crispy, and coated in a garlic and ginger sauce; 30 Minute Ginger Beef is an inexpensive dinner the whole family will love!

INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated 1 pound skirt steak, sliced thinly 1/2 teaspoon dried red chili flakes (flank steak or beef tenderloin will 1/2 cup light soy sauce work too) 2 tablespoons vinegar (rice vinegar 1 cup cornstarch or white vinegar) 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus 1 tablespoon sesame oil more for frying 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 large white onion, finely chopped 1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed 1 1/2 cups carrots, julienned (can 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, use grated or shredded carrots too) toasted 3 cloves garlic, minced 1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Toss the steak with the corn starch in a large bowl and set aside.

2. Over medium heat, add the vegetable oil and onions to a sauce pan. Sauté for two minutes until onions are translucent.

3. Add the carrots to the onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until tender.

4. Next, add the garlic, ginger, and chili flakes. Stir into the carrots and onions. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

5. Lastly, add the soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, brown sugar, and sesame seeds.

Whisk together.

6. Lower the heat to a simmer and allow the sauce to slightly thicken.

7. In the meantime, bring about 23 cups of vegetable oil to optimum frying temperature in a deep skillet.

Shake the excess corn starch off the beef and fry each piece in batches until crispy. This process takes about

3-4 minutes. Drain the fried beef on paper towels.

8. Toss the fried beef with the sauce mixture. Garnish with green onions.

Serve immediately.
