Flag Football Coming to Ste. Anne Football Manitoba is starting a flag football program in eastern Manitoba. If it’s a success then they hope to expand their area to include more schools.

Gavin Don, Vice President of the Eastman Raiders Football Club had approached Ste. Anne Immersion PE Instructor Keith Mitchell to see if their physical education program would be interested in including flag football into the curriculum. Mitchell agreed to give it a try.

In mid-January, Gavin Don of the Eastman Raiders along with Bill Johnson arrived at the school with donated equipment from

the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to get them started with hope to raise some intrest amonst some of the kids to ultimately join the Eastman Raiders this upcoming year.

The equipment consisted of footballs, flags and bean bags for marking the field.

This was the first school they have done this with but they are hoping to continue the program into more schools.

2020 Soccer Sainte-Anne Registration nights. First one is February 25 and the second is March 3. Both registration nights will be held in Ste. Anne Elementary Cafeteria from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Arts & Heritage Dawson Trail Community Consultations

Invitation to attend public consultations for the proposed Dawson Road Interpretive Trail extending from the area east of Richer to Prairie Grove, west of Lorette, Manitoba.

The Dawson Trail Arts & Heritage Tour committee, along with its partners CDEM and the Dawson Trail Museum, invite merchants, stakeholders, elected officials and residents to attend public consultations on the implementation of a historic, interpretive tour plan for the Dawson Trail.

“We are looking to highlight the important contribution of the Dawson Trail as Western Canada’s first land route and its role in the early development of Manitoba as a province. In doing so, we hope to increase knowledge and pride in these historical points of interest and create a tourism product that could potentially become a major economic driver for our communities,” states the Chair of the Executive Committee, Pierrette Sherwood.

The public consultations will be conducted in a working group format and will be hosted by expert-consultants in order to obtain as many comments as possible and direction on the implementation of the trail which would start east of Richer and end just west of Lorette. This is a multi-year project that is expected to start in 2020 and extend over the next 3-5years. Once the consultation process is complete and feedback has been received, experts will be delivering their recommendations.

Participants are asked to register for either of the following meetings: Monday, February 10, 2020: From 3pm to 5pm: Dawson Trail Motor Inn in Lorette. 113 Lagimodière Ave, Lorette.

From 7pm to 9pm: Bilingual Service Centre in Sainte-Anne. 30 Dawson Road, Ste. Anne.

Here is a heart healthy recipe in honor of heart month. A hearthealthy diet is simply a natural way to help reduce the risk of heart disease and improve overall health.

It’s a whole foods-friendly diet that features natural, unprocessed foods -- including loads of fresh veggies and fruit, lean proteins, and whole grains. You’ll enjoy these foods while at the same time reducing or eliminating foods high in saturated fat, salt, and processed sugar. Why not start with this tasty Grilled Ratatouill recipe.

Ingredience 3 large beefsteak tomatoes, halved crosswise 2 medium zucchini 1 large eggplant 1 small red onion, halved lengthwise (through the root end) ½ cup extra-virgin olive oil ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, roughly torn ¼ cup fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves, chopped 2 Tbsp fresh thyme leaves, finely chopped 1 clove garlic, finely chopped 1 tsp salt

Heart Healthy Grilled Ratatouill

Directions 1. Prepare a grill for medium heat.

2. Put the tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant and onion on the grill and cover. Grill the tomatoes, turning occasionally, until lightly charred, 5 to 6 minutes. Grill the zucchini, eggplant and onion, turning every 5 minutes, until lightly charred and tender when poked with the tip of a small, sharp knife, 15 to 20 minutes.

3. When cool enough to handle, chop all of the vegetables except the onion into bite-size pieces and add to a medium bowl. Chop the onion finely and add to the bowl. Fold in the oil, basil, parsley, thyme, garlic and 1 teaspoon salt. Serve warm or at room temperature.
