Ste. Anne Hospital STARS Gazing
With the cooperation of the Catholic church who owns the land behind the hospital and the cooperation of the regional health authority, on November 25, the area behind the Ste. Anne Hospital was officially made the new landing location for the STARS Air Ambulance. Previously an ambulance crew would have to drive to the municipal yard and pick up the STARS crew, bring them to the hospital, then patients would be loaded into the ambulance at the hospital and driven back to the STARS helicopter. The new landing site behind the hospital will save time and manpower that could potentially save someone’s life. This site is ideal to deliver a faster door-to-door patient care and transport. Ste. Anne is also the first in line of medical services from Ontario along the Trans Canada Highway, meaning any motor vehicle accidents along that stretch of highway will have patients transferred to Ste. Anne. The new landing location is just in time for winter as the STARS Air Ambulance and Snoman (Snowmobilers of Manitoba) Inc. are partnering to promote snowmobile safety this winter as more than 34,500 Manitoba snowmobilers get ready to hit the trails. There were seven fatalities in total last season, including five off-trail, and two on-trail incidents. This new location will aid in getting a patient to help faster this winter.
