Pop-Up Vaccine Clinic Coming to Richer Museum “Let’s Get Back to What Matters” Fundraiser

A pop-up vaccine clinic has been organized that includes an afternoon with a free BBQ, entertainment, draws and local doctors and pharmacists. It will be hosted in Richer’s Dawson Trail Park from 2 pm to 8 pm on Friday, August 13.

A joint effort by the Richer Community Club (RCC) and Premier Horticulture to bring together this event is supported by the Province, Southern Health and local medical practitioners.

“We are known as a community that has always come together and this was another way we CAN come together and ensure that we can get back to what matters… our community, caring for our neighbours, and of course, gathering in the park,” explained Dan Guetre, a member of the RCC board of directors. “We are planning a large-scale event for September and we want to ensure we can host it for our community and guests from other areas of the province.”

“We are inviting everyone from the Richer, Ste. Anne, Ross, Ste. Genevieve and Giroux areas to

come out and get their first vaccine shot or their second shot if needed,” said Guetre. “If you have had both shots, you are also welcome to come and grab a burger, drink and watch the entertainment. Of course, we are definitely not going to refuse anyone from outside the area to obtain a vaccine shot either.

We are known as a community that always shows great hospitality to all guests.”

Pointe-des-Chênes Museum Inc. held a fundraiser July 1st, August 1st & 2nd from 12-6 pm at the grounds of the old Ste. Anne museum. They sold bird houses, paintings, wood urns, crafts, pottery, beadwork and gician. They are also planning free other items to raise money for the draws for those that attend. They just repair of the log cabin that is on ask people to respect the Provincial site after the museum burned down.

Guetre is asking everyone to start talking about this event and reach out to their family and friends who may be hesitant or just have delayed their shot, to come out to the park.

Little Funk Library Good Grief!

Hi everyone... I hope you have been enjoying your summer and taking time to make memories and relax.

Our Little Funk Libraries have been pretty busy this summer!! Setting up the traveling Little Funk Library at Grand Beach Campground proved to be a big hit and I am having a hard time keeping it stocked (A stewards Dream!).

I appreciate all who visit or follow us on Facebook. I encourage you to leave us a note of encouragement or tell us how we can serve the community better. We even have a guest book that we leave in the Library.

As part of being a Recipient Steward of the Little Free Library Giveaway I need to host a special Grand Opening event. We plan to do this in September - I am just ironing out details. Please keep an eye out on Facebook and here for more updates. **We are low on stock and do have a donation request for Children’s books for all ages including French or any other language.

It is one of the most common sayings of exasperation and/or frustration in North America. Yet the context in which we commonly experience grief; in death, is not commonly thought of as ‘good’ in any way. Grief is an overwhelming, occasionally devastating experience associated with loss and is an instinctive reaction, irrespective of whether the emotion initiates from the loss of a loved one or from a terminal diagnosis they or someone they love have received. One may experience feelings of disorientation that makes them see through the lens as watchers versus participators, unable to cope and carry out the most basic of activities of daily living including personal care, nutritional needs, proper rest and exercise. Grief can manifest from loss of independence due to accident or disease or the ending of a meaningful relationship, losing a home, a job or routine as so many of us have experienced in the last two years. In this comprehensive description, grief is both a universal and an intimate understanding. Individual experiences of grief vary and are influenced by the nature of the loss.

Understanding grief as someone suffers through personal loss can help, but it is important to remember to keep the focus on their emotions. Refrain from giving advice, unless asked and even then, avoid doing so if at all possible. Encourage the grieving to explore their feelings with open-ended questions and rephrasing statements to encourage therapeutic dialogue. This enables inward reflection which begins to facilitate healing. Sometimes, just being a soothing presence and no words at all with gentle touch is all that’s really needed. There is no timeline for when the sadness will be over as we are pushed to think by societal ‘norms’ surrounding death and dying. It’s like a candle that never goes out, only grows dim as one learns to adapt.

Zucchini Fritters

(gluten-free, low-carb, keto) Zucchini fritters are the perfect appetizer or small bite. And these goat cheese zucchini fritters are topped with a creamy garlic, chive, yogurt sauce.

AUTHOR: Lisa Bryan Ingredients 1 1/2 pounds zucchini about 2-3 medium to large zucchini 1 shallot finely diced 2 eggs beaten 1/2 cup almond flour 1/4 cup goat cheese crumbled salt and pepper to taste 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying Garlic, Chive Yogurt Sauce: 1 cup yogurt 2 garlic cloves minced

1 tbsp chives finely chopped 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper Instructions Grate the zucchini and put into a bowl. Sprinkle with salt, stir together and let stand for 20 minutes. The salt will work to draw the moisture out of the zucchini.

Squeeze out the liquid from the zucchini, with either a nut milk bag or cheesecloth, then return to a clean bowl.

Add the shallot, eggs, goat cheese, almond flour, salt and pepper. Then stir to combine.

Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Using either your hands or a spoon, dollop out mounds (approximately 1/4 cup worth) of the mixture into the hot pan. Using a spatula, push down each fritter to flatten.

Cook the fritters 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they’re lightly golden.

Remove the fritters from the pan and place them on a paper towel to dab away any extra oil.

Mix the sauce ingredients together in a bowl, stirring until creamy.

Serve the fritters with a dollop of the sauce, then enjoy!
