Ste. Anne Aces Claim CSHL Title

While the Ste. Anne Aces and Grunthal Red Wings played 60 minutes of scoreless hockey recently, it only took them less than 60 seconds of overtime to put an end to the 2017-2018 Carillon Senior Hockey League season.

Tanner Harms scored 58 seconds into overtime to gain the victory over Grunthal 1-0, ending the best-ofseven series with four wins and two losses.

Ste. Anne Woman Earns Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers A Ste. Anne woman was among 45 remarkable Canadians recently recognized for their excellence, courage or exceptional dedication to service with an award presented by the Governor General of Canada.

On March 21, Governor General of Canada Julie Payette presented Christine Beaumont with a Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers during a special ceremony at Government House in Victoria BC. Beaumont was very active volunteering in her Francophone community when she lived in Winnipeg. And she has continued her volunteer work since moving to Ste. Anne. Beaumont helped to start ‘Tailored For Success’ in Steinbach, which provides new or gently used career clothing to disadvantaged men and women who are entering the workforce.

Beaumont, who works as a Financial Advisor and Investment Representative in Steinbach, is also on the board of the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce.

When the curling club in Ste. Anne had some difficulties she got involved there.

Creation Ministries - will be held at Club Jovial 157 Centrale Ave on May 5 starting at 2 pm

A great time to be a Christian! Summarizing support for Creation Suitable for: Ages Jr High and up. - This is a great talk to begin a series since it “sets the stage” for more complex scientific issues in other presentations. - This has been Richard’s main talk for many years (small updates are continuously made) that has ‘opened the eyes’ of thousands of people across Canada, helping them to make sense of Genesis and the origins issue.

Biology and the Bible Suitable for: students in High School and up.

Noah’s Flood: Key to understanding Earth’s history Suitable for: Ages Jr High and up. this talk covers many topics including questions about the Ark, the flood, fossils, rock layers, the origin of nations and language, and more.

Richard Fangrad will be sharing every 2 hours on a different subject about creation.

Free will offering. Junior High Students and adults will find this easy to understand.

Plans for Diamond Improvements and Zamboni Sarah Normandeau, Sports and Rec Director, says over the past three years the baseball numbers have tripled here in Ste. Anne and there has been considerably more use of the diamonds. There are four baseball diamonds in the ball park behind the arena with two in better condition ready for league play while the other two could use some TLC. The town has allocated $100,000 for upgrades to the baseball diamonds and Operations Manager John Desrochers says they’re looking to make some significant drainage improvements.

The arena will also be getting a Zamboni upgrade this year. The current unit has reached the end of its lifespan so plans to purchase a used Zamboni that is still in good condition are underway. The town has budgeted $45,000 for the purchase of the Zamboni and hopes to have the unit onsite for the next hockey season.

Library Given Lifeline

The library board went before both the councils of the Town and the RM of Ste. Anne to ask for additional support as the number of patrons to the library has increased significantly in recent years and funding form the Town and the RM has not increased in over 8 years. The Library Board asked for an additional $4,000 in yearly grants at both council meetings.

Following a recent council meeting, the RM of Ste. Anne announced they will increase their annual funding to the library from $10,000 to $15,000 for 2018 and 2019 and re-evaluate in 2020 to see if that is still appropriate.

About 42% of the patrons who visit the library are from the RM. In previous years, the municipality gave $50 per household for approximately 200 families who use the library. Now, they have changed that to $60 per household based on the approximately 250 families who use the library each month.

That also applies to residents of the RM of Ste. Anne who use the Jake Epp Library in Steinbach. Once residents purchase their membership, they can bring their receipt to the municipal office and they will be refunded $60 of the cost of the membership.

The Town of Ste. Anne council has not yet announced their decision. The Town says they will announce their decision at their next council meeting on April 3rd.
