Southern Health Moves To Critical (Red) On #Restartmb Pandemic Response System

New Restrictions for Region Aimed at Slowing Community Spread, Protecting Manitobans: Roussin Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer, announced that as of Monday, Nov. 9, the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region will move to Critical (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System in order to halt COVID-19 transmission spread in the region.

Changes in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region mirror those in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region including: • Bars and restaurants will be closed except for take-out and delivery.

• Most retail will be reduced to 25 per cent capacity.

• Sports and recreation programming will be suspended.

• Gyms and fitness centres will have reduced capacity to 25 per cent and masks will be mandatory, even when exercising.

• Movie theatres and concert halls will close.

• Personal services have no change and stay at 50 per cent capacity.

• Faith-based gatherings are reduced to 15 per cent or 100 people, whichever is lower.

• Non-urgent and elective surgeries and diagnostics will be suspended. Scheduled surgeries in a number of essential and time-sensitive areas will continue to be performed including cancer, cardiac and trauma. Patients will be contacted directly if their scheduled surgeries are affected.

• In-patient visitation to hospitals or health centres will be suspended, with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis for patients receiving end-of-life care, in labour and delivery, as well as in pediatrics.

• Designated family caregivers may continue to visit personal care homes. General visitation may be suspended with exceptions in place for end-of-life care. General visitation to outdoor visitation shelters will be implemented, once operational.

In addition to these changes, the province is encouraging businesses in the Southern Health– Santé Sud health region to have staff work from home wherever possible, and for residents to stay home when sick and take whatever action possible to reduce their contacts and otherwise gathering in public.

2020 National Remembrance Day Ceremony

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing the way the Legion will run Remembrance Day Ceremonies in 2020. This year tune into The National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa it will continue although modified to meet local health guidelines.

For the first time, spectators will be discouraged from attending in person ceremonys, due to the limited space and requirement to physically distance.

Ste. Anne Doctor Charged with Six Sexual Assaults

In a statement released on November 5th, Sainte-Anne Chief of Police Marc Robichaud said a lengthy investigation has resulted in six charges of sexual assault against Dr. Arcel Bissonnette, 61, a doctor working at the Sainte-Anne Hospital and the Sainte-Anne Medical Centre.

Robichaud said the doctor is alleged to have sexually assaulted six patients between 2004 and 2017 at the medical centre and hospital.

The charges against Bissonnette have not been proven in court. “Sainte-Anne Police want to ensure that there are no other victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward,� Robichaud said in a statement.

Sainte-Anne police said they would not be responding to medias’ requests for further comment at this time.

Soft Ginger Cookies

Ingredients 3/4 cup butter, softened 1 cup sugar 1 large egg, room temperature 1/4 cup molasses 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon salt Additional sugar Directions In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses. Combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.

Roll into 1-1/2-in. balls, and then roll in sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° until puffy and lightly browned, 10-12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Tips and tricks ~To make ginger cookies crisp, leave out the baking soda. The main difference between soft and crispy ginger cookies has to do with this leavening agent. (For less mess while measuring baking soda, coat you’re measuring cups in cooking spay before portioning it out.) ~To keep the cookies soft and chewy, store them on the counter in an airtight container with a slice of bread.

Movember (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, “mo”, and “November”) is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”

Lets Talk Men’s Health Globally, men die on average six years earlier than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable. Which means that it doesn’t have to be that way: we can all take action to live healthier, happier and longer lives.

1. Spend time with people who make you feel good.

Stay connected. Your friends are important and spending time with them is good for you.

Catch up regularly, check in and make time.

2. Talk, more.

You don’t need to be an expert and you don’t have to be the sole solution, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life-saving.

3. Know the numbers.

At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it’s right for you to have a PSA test. If you are of African or Caribbean descent or have a father or brother with prostate cancer, you should be having this conversation at 45. Know your numbers, know your risk, talk to your doctor.

4. Know thy nuts. Simple.

Get to know what’s normal for your testicles.

Give them a check regularly and go to the

doctor if something doesn’t feel right.

5. Move, more.

Add more activity to your day. Do more of what makes you feel good.

Take a walking meeting.

Park further away from the station.

Get off the bus a stop or two earlier.

Instead of the lift, take the stairs.

Cycle to work instead of driving.
