Officers Row

The largest collection of histori-

cally restored officer housing in the country resides on a tree lined street in Vancouver, Washington known as Officers Row.

21 homes built from 1850 to 1906 housed commanding officers of the U. S. Army through numerous conflicts starting with the Indian Wars up to and through World War II. Army to the point that over 70 of the officers who were stationed here later became prominent Generals in various conflicts.

The Marshall House (Queen Anne Architecture) is presently the only home open to the public and that is limited to the first floor but the tour is free and provides an inside look of the elite Army Officer residences in the 19th century.

Each home has its own history but the three most prestigious are the Grant House, Marshal House and O. O. Howard House. Other homes occupied by lower ranking officers later played major roles in the U.S. Historic markers along Officers Row allow for a self-guided tour and enjoyable stroll any time of the year.
