We gather tonight under the stars, at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, to celebrate the Park Avenue Synagogue community and our honoree Marc Becker. At this 18th Annual Gala as part of our more than 140-year history, our community and the PAS institution are strong and thriving, and the future is bright. And while we continue to build upon the past, with great appreciation for our many leaders who have come before, we must do so while looking forward – apropos of both tonight’s honoree and the gala theme, Atid: Inspiring our Future.

In his more than 10 years of leadership, Marc Becker has strengthened our synagogue foundation to support our growth for years to come. He played an instrumental role in our space project and capital campaign, A Synagogue in Action: Building the Future; he artfully guided us through the challenges of today, including building construction and the complexities of COVID; he led more than 450 members of our community to Israel; and he visioned the expansion of our online presence, enabling us to share the PAS magic with people across the country and around the world.

Marc inspires us to execute upon current challenges while remembering to dream about the possibilities of the future. He always shows appreciation for those who came before him while simultaneously thinking about and developing the leaders of tomorrow. He does everything with a steady hand, a kind soul, and a generous heart.

Marc, we are eternally grateful for your leadership, partnership, and friendship, and we are blessed that you and your family – Caryn, Olivia, Willow, and Hayden – are part of PAS. Because of your leadership, our future will be brighter, more meaningful, more compassionate, and more connected; and because of your inspiration, we will – like the stars – shine brighter, reach new heights, and realize successes that we might otherwise have never thought possible.
