IN THE KNOW
A World-Class Education
Delivered in the Palm Beaches
From Kelly Smallridge, President and CEO Business Development Board of the Palm Beaches The Palm Beaches thrive on constant, collaborative innovation. Keeping pace alone is not enough. When D-Wave, one of the world’s leading quantum computing companies, chose Boca Raton for its operations, it wasn't following a trend. It was setting one. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to across every industry we touch. Our success is built on a simple but powerful formula: Build a strong workforce, embrace innovation, and create an environment where businesses and families can flourish together. It begins with world-class education. As you’ll read in this issue of Quarterly, the School District of Palm Beach County, the nation’s 10th largest and rated “A”, is educating today’s talent alongside nationally recognized public institutions like Florida Atlantic University, now an R1 research university, and Palm Beach State College, whose workforce programs feed directly into our fastest-growing employers. Our workers aren’t waiting for the future to arrive. They’re changing the global economy as we speak. At Scripps and Max Planck, two of the world’s leading research institutes, breakthroughs in life sciences happen daily. Pratt & Whitney engineers are powering the next generation of flight from our aerospace corridor. And with more than 600 technology-related companies now calling the county home, the Palm Beaches are transforming healthcare, fintech, and quantum computing — technologies that, in the hands of highly trained talent, promise to reinvent the way society works and lives. None of this happens in a vacuum. Our greatest strength has always been deep relationships with our educational partners and leadership at the state, county, and city level. The BDB’s Academic Leaders Council and Public/Private K-12 Headmasters Task Force serve as great resources for local companies and families. Together, we’ve created a destination where businesses prosper, employees build careers, and families put down roots.

WORKFORCE TODAY Connecting Talent to Opportunity
Explore the Palm Beaches
The Business Development Board of the Palm Beaches works alongside educators, employers and community partners to connect students and professionals with quality local careers— while helping companies attract talent and supporting relocating families through complimentary education concierge services.
For more than 10 years, the Business Development Board, in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County and CareerSource Palm Beach County, has helped introduce local high school students to career opportunities in the Palm Beaches. This year, under the new brand “Explore the Palm Beaches,” the program was supported by George Elmore and inspired 1,000 students.
Academic Leaders Council
Summer Intern Series
The Business Development Board’s Academic Leaders Council unites presidents from every college and university in Palm Beach County, along with the public school district, to ensure that academic programs align with the needs of local industries. Meeting at least twice a year, the council engages directly with CEOs in key sectors such as finance, technology, life sciences, healthcare, aviation, and advanced manufacturing. In recent months, the group has also begun exploring emerging topics like quantum technology, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to workforce readiness.
BDB Private School Task Force Composed of all private school headmasters in Palm Beach County, along with leaders from the public school district and FAU Lab Schools, this unique task force meets year-round to discuss education trends, share expansion plans and strengthen collaboration across the region’s top schools.
One Palm Beach: Connecting Families to Top Schools This annual program introduces relocating executives, expanding companies and new families to top schools in the area, helping them connect with educators and find the best fit for their children. The headmasters of top private schools and leadership from the School District spend a full day meeting with a new appointment each hour.
Each summer, the Business Development Board welcomes college students from institutions across the country who are interning at leading Palm Beach County companies. Through a multipart series, they connect with peers, business leaders and local career opportunities—encouraging them to return after graduation and build their careers in the Palm Beaches.
Wall Street South Stock Pitch Competition
The Wall Street South Stock Pitch Competition launched in 2026. The first-of-its-kind event united 25 public and private high schools to present investment recommendations to Wall Street South executives. The program, returning in 2027, won Best in State for Innovation in Marketing.

It means creating internships, quality jobs and long-term career opportunities for the people who call the Palm Beaches home. The Business Development Board’s Summer Internship Program connects students with local employers, peers and career paths across the region. w w w w w
80+ interns 25 local companies Built cross-industry connections Explored full-time careers Saw a future for themselves in the Palm Beaches

Through a multi-week experience, interns connect with local companies, executive leaders, peers and the broader business community while gaining a firsthand understanding of the careers available here. That exposure matters. Talent is more likely to stay or return when young professionals can clearly see a future for themselves in the region. Interns leave with meaningful experience, a cross-industry network and stronger ties to Palm Beach County. By connecting them to local opportunities now, we help companies retain promising talent, strengthen the local workforce pipeline and encourage the next generation of professionals to choose the Palm Beaches for the long term.
