Its now late 2006 and to go travelling around Australia is something Fiona and I had planned to do before uni, but for those who know me will know why it’s taken till now and for those that don’t lets just say for reasons beyond my control. After briefly slipping back into the whole 9 to 5 work thing to top up funds (which were heavily drained from just finishing uni) we had everything in place and the dream was finally becoming a reality. After spending the best part of 40 hours in airports, on planes, waiting in transit lounges we arrived in Australia.

It’s almost impossible to try and some up what was the best 10 weeks of my life without going on for hours, the things I’ve seen and done will live on in my memory for the rest of my days. It will be easier, for the purpose of this write up, to tell you about some of the amazing places I rode. I really was spoilt for choice, awesome street spots, picture perfect skateparks and some places even have dirt parks.

Bondi skatepark defiantly stands out as being one of my highlights, the park is unreal, super good hips, loads of rails and ledges and not to mention the world’s deepest bowl. Seriously it was almost impossible to drop in! The view from the park is breathtaking as you look out over the beach and out into the ocean.

When we arrived in Melbourne some 8 weeks and 3856km later I was getting a bit distressed about the prospect of travelling home, but whilst at Camberwell skatepark (the place rules, banks to subs, rails, ledges, bowls and a rad jumpbox, defiantly my favourite park) I bumped in to non other than Will Jackson. The last week in Oz was an epitome of a truly amazing vacation by getting to hang out with Will and watch him shut shit down.Will is a dialled rider and was super cool about doing tricks for me over and over as I kept cutting his head out or worse completely missing the trick, cheers Will.

I think that the world could learn a lot from Australia, particularly their recycling policies, land and animal conservation and their “No Worries” attitude.

For example check this for human kindness; at one of the first spots I managed to almost fold my chainring in half going up a rail. Sitting there trying to smash it straight one of the local riders told me not to bother trying to fix it he would go home and get his old one for me. When he returned I tried to give some cash for it but he was having none of it!

Whether it’s somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, something you’ve always wanted to do, maybe it’s to land that whip, have that kinked rail, ask your long term girlfriend to marry you, whatever it is the time is now. So, get your shit together and make it happen. Your only fear is possibility. Thank you Australia.

Yep, Fashion vid is out in a few weeks now,the money from this is going on a massive party in which all the people who bought a copy and aren’t putting it on google video are invited!!!! This is perhaps one of the main reasons the videos even been made!

The video is the same sort of set-up as facad, a mix intro with riding from everyone, 4 full sections from cannon dan, mainy, theo, tommy c and a full friends section.

The bonus on the dvd will be emmense, mainy has been putting together loads of bonus, hull scene video, 2 bonus riding sections, 2 slam sections, team to street video, topgun/morgan section,phold video, photo gallerys etc and more, a lot more.

what equipment do you use?

Nikon F90X Pro 28mm - 105mm Nikkor 16mm fisheye, 28mm, 50mm fast Nikkors Nikon D70 + 18-70 Bronica ETRS 645 camera with 40, 75 & 150mm lenses with speed grip and prism finder for bike photos and a spare back.

A few Nikon Speedlights, soon to be replaced by Metz’s 45’s Yashica 35mm rangefinder Holga 120roll Sekonic lightmeter Selection of polaroid cameras Few lighting stands and tripods and some radio units for flashes.

what made you start taking pictures?

I first started taking photographs just after we got our first set of trails riding in Loughborough I think which is a fair few years ago now. I just wanted to capture everything around me and it wasn’t long before bmx was not my only subject matter. At the moment I take riding photos when I can, I prefer to take time setting my photographs up, this goes back to the whole ‘farmer/hunter’ debate, and I would definitely say I’m a farmer of photographs.

Apart for bmx photos I usually concentrate on human surrounding, namely utilitarian accommodation and artificial lighting & their relation to people. what inspires you?

I get inspired by all manors of things, mainly from other photographer’s work, favourites include Andreas Gursky, Dan Holdsworth and Tony Ray-Jones. One thing that fascinates me at the moment is that light travels billions of years into my lens and I decide when to imprison this light on silver grain, just wondering what that light has travelled through to get there is fascinating.
