Originally, this was the art of riding along thin ledges (straight riding), but over the years it’s name has changed with accent. Thanks to the invention of stairs, the art of street riding has taken on a whole new persona and although it is virtualy undefineable, when seen it is unmistakeable. Street is the art of making do with what you have. Whether it be riding off a quarter pipe to flat or doing a toothpick on a trolley, if it’s rideable, then I’m sure you will find something to do on it. Street is fun and free, I can highly recommend it. Afterall,you are yet to go to the best place you have ever ridden and I bet it’s in the last place you would expect.

what made you start taking pictures?

Seeing how amazing bmx looks in still life. One of the first photos I saw that I can honestly say I appreciated looking at was one by Brad McDonald taken in 1995. It’s a picture of Taj jumping a box at a BS comp. Besides the amazing tailwhip that was clearly evident, I guess what I liked about it was the composition, subject at the centre top and terra firma way down below. I very soon aquired* a Zorki 4 from my father and tried to replicate the photo, but not knowing what the dials on the lens and body did, combined with the reactions of a lazy slug, I was sadly disappointed with the results. After about 5 rolls of film I was starting to realise that the dials effect how the photo looks..brainiac..but since I broke the camera climbing over the bridge to get to the trails, I nicked my old dears fuji APS. Ace. I’ve been learning ever since, purely through trial and error, and that picture of Taj will more than likely stay on my wall for another 11 years. I still havent even come close to replicating. * aquired/stole.shhh. what inspires you?

Seeing the shot. No matter what it is,there is always another angle. what equipment do you use?

Nikon D100 Zenitar fisheye - Sigma 18-50 - Nikon 70-300 - various lens filters Cheap hotshoe flash -National Panasonic off-cam flash occasionally a tripod 50 million slave flash units.all broke and a bag put it all in.

The Love Metal Jam was officially of the chain! The turn out was amazing and the level of riding was something I don’t think will ever be witnessed at Falmouth skatepark again. Seriously hammers where being thrown down everywhere from everyone, all the riders defiantly upped their game and the photos speak for themselves. I would like thank everyone that made the jam possible, Ride Bmx Magazine, Gate Eight, 13 Productions, BMX Invasion, We the People, 661, Maxxis, Clive Mitchell Cycles, Charge Bikes, Fat bmx, Random bmx, BCBMX, James Kahane at Revolve ramps and all the riders who without their would have been no Love Metal Jam. Results Little Rippers Joint 1st - Jack Williams and Angus Vowles.

UK STAND UP!

We’ve been lucky enough here at passion to have some good photographers offer to help us out. What makes this even better is the fact they’re pretty much spread out over the UK With British bmx probably at an alltime high with homegrown companies such as DFTU and their Battle Royale’s and UK riders finally getting plenty of coverage, it seems like it’s a good idea to show a few photographers glimpses of their local scene.

There’s plenty more out there so get travelling and go meet new people and ride new spots.....
