News of this summer in Ibiza It’s official! Luciano will be playing at Pacha on Sundays what is probably the biggest and most controversial news story from the Ibiza party scene this season! Considering that Luciano has made his name on the “underground” circuit, his new residency at Pacha will no doubt come as a shock to many of his fans. It will also mean that he will not be playing at Circoloco or Cocoon this year.

However, we know that most of Luciano’s fans will be beating a track to Ibiza’s most exclusive nightclub to make contact with him. The parties will be called Vagabundos and will be hosted by his label Cadenza, kicking off on 6th June. The pre-parties will be at Ushuaia in Playa d‘en Bossa.

Also at Pacha: Mondays this year again in the hands of the Swedish House Mafia, and Flower Power is moving on Tuesdays together with a new night called Pacha Seduction.

Wednesdays will see several great concepts: Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Sessions at Pacha are a classic not to be missed. A new South-American 6

club night Warung is an addition at Privilege (taking the former spot of Mauro Picotto and his Meganite techno night) whereas Space will be putting on Kehakuma with a highly respectable and approved DJ line-up every week.

Thursdays at Space sees a new night called Come together with Be @ Space moving to a new slot on Friday nights. After only one season at Space, Hed Kandi is saying good-bye to Playa d’en Bossa and is moving to San Antonio to its new home at Es Paradis every Saturday.

The most uninspired party slogan this year comes from Cocoon with their “Party Animals” campaign, especially remarkable at this point because since 3 years The Zoo Project promoters successfully are ruling the island with their “Release Your Animal” theme.

But let’s forget the party motto: what counts is just the music, and Cocoon will again be one of the best (and apparently busiest and most expensive) parties in Ibiza!

Since last winter the posh nightclub El Divino does not exist anymore.

Pacha has bought the venue and is currently remodelling it for the 2011 season. Also closed, but after only one single season: Le Masque nightclub in Playa d’en Bossa and Boho in San Antonio. Both will not open again, sharing the same destiny as Bazaar in Santa Gertrudis that also had to shut down after only one summer.

Let’s stop talking about the past and look forward instead to the new projects that are going on in Ibiza this summer! Monkey Bar on the road to San Joan is a funky new “insider” spot under the artistic management of Vaughn who opened the place during the winter months and turned it into a popular hangout for the locals. There is a new sushi restaurant Rumours at the Puerto Deportivo in Santa Eulalia, and further toward the east side of the island near San Carlos you have a lovely new flea market every Sunday at Cala Lenya that is definitely worth a visit.

Manuel Lopez, who until last year was the general manager of the island’s biggest discotheque Privilege, has just opened a new gourment restaurant at a spectacular venue on the road to Santa Gertrudis called Novum with his partner Rolf Finkbeiner. This is also the new home of Ulises Braun’s Reunion bar and the boutique Ibiza Decadent.

Who else is moving? The designer Frank Ford moved down from the Portal Nou of the Dalt Vila fortress to the Mercado Viejo and the new shop is located now directly in the little street behind the Croissant Show. The underground club night Monza is moving from Privilege, with Cova Santa (on the road to Sant Josep) rumoured to be the new venue.

For people who love dancing in the daytime this summer there are not so many options but still: most of the cool beach hangouts as Sands, Ushuaia and Blue Marlin are great places to spend a sunny day in Ibiza with some good music and maybe more! The only real daytime festivals are hosted by the The Zoo Project team at Galanight on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Or you go and experience the special Ibiza open-air feeling at a boat party!

Also at Amnesia: other strong nights such as Release Yourself, Armada and Matineé. Sundays at Amnesia see a new party series called Popstars (sharing the night with the legendary Espuma foam parties in the main room).

Hi Roger, your theme on the island this season is the 10th anniversary of your party Release Yourself. First of all, congratulations! How do you feel?

I feel great! I‘m ready for the summer, having kicked of with an amazing Release Yourself at WMC this year with our 3D visuals. It is very spectacular. Rumor has it that the camera crew from Avatar is present at Amnesia through out the summer!

In which club did you first start promoting parties in Ibiza, and what was the development in the following years? Please give a mini summary of your last 10 years here!

I started my own party at El Divino in 2001 and then moved to Pacha for 8 years and then, finally, to the terrace of Amnesia. We have grown every year! Besides that I‘m playing at my beloved Mambo Cafe every Tuesday prior to my Release Yourself gig in Amnesia with very special guests.

Last season you moved with Release Yourself from Pacha to Amnesia, and it’s your second summer now at the new venue. First of all, how was your experience at the parties in the new place?

I loved it! The terrace has brought back a more true Ibicencan feel to the night and the room is fantastic - I can really do more to create an experience with decor, dancers, you name it!

So how are you preparing yourself for the second summer at Amnesia?

With our 10-year anniversary, I am preparing more live shows, a more visually spectacular show as well as, of course, rocking the music!

My team is making preparations as we speak and you will be amazed, I promise.

Do you think the local Government made the right decision two years ago when restricting the opening hours of the nightclubs and bars in Ibiza?

I think there is needed to be some modification and control, but I do believe they have gone a bit overboard. It has an effect in the respect that there are very few 24 hour, mad parties going on, and I think that regulating it is not necessarily a bad thing. I do

How was the club culture in Ibiza ten years ago? Do you think much has changed since then?

10 years ago, it was still more centered in the UK audience and, since then, the island has become a more international mecca for dance music. Now you have people from all around the world coming to party in Ibiza! believe, however, that there should be SOME freedom for events - it‘s what Ibiza was built on!

Which tracks you will have definitely in your record bag this summer?

Sometimes I have to play for 7 hours straight so there will be loads and loads. From sexy house for the early hours and peak time club monsters such as my new single „2gether“, plenty of Lex Da Funk, Chris Moody and Avicii trax, just to name a few!

Your new single will be released this month and has K‘Naan on vocals who is also involved in the official World Cup theme, please tell us a bit more about this production!

I was introduced to K‘naan through my management and after hearing his album, I became a fan! He not only raps, but also sings and is incredibly down to earth! We had an amazing recording session and I look forward to working with him more. His stories of what he went through, growing up in war-torn Somalia were incredible!

What can we expect on Tuesday nights on the terrace of Amnesia in terms of the show and the visual concept?

We are focusing on a futuristic theme in 3D where you can get lost 12

with wearing our Release Yourself 3D glasses - moving from 10 years to a new millennium, expect lots of lights, lasers and sexiness!

What’s the special thing with 3D glasses? How does it work and what is the effect?

I premiered a 3D show at WMC and it was fantastic! I had 3 huge screens behind me projecting 3D visuals, end everyone in the audience was wearing 3D glasses made especially for that show. All the visuals seemed as if they were coming at you!

Do you think it’s beginning a new era of clubbing and nightlife entertainment in Ibiza?

I definitely think the „3D“ craze has hit clubland, but I am working with the people from Real D - who developed the camera for the film Avatar - to take it a step further. Maybe it will translate in Ibiza!

Where can the clubbers get the glasses?

I’m preparing a special Release Yourself compilation later this year that will include them. Besides that, when you get lucky, our on island promo team will have them to hand out to you.

Martin’s catalogue stretches round some of the most influential dance productions heard around the globe since the early 90’s. His music encompasses the entire spectrum between dreaminess, intuition, warmth and highly calibrated dancefloor precision. Buttrich developed a sound that appeals to both sides of the brain and dropped records on labels such as Planet E, Four:Twenty, Cocoon and Poker Flat.

This spring Martin released a new album “Crash Test” on Desolat on which each song pays testament to

Warung is the new party at Privilege on Wednesdays, bringing the Brazilian party style to the island this season.

AT USHUAIA Last year London party promoters Fuse joined forces with local hero Nima Gorji and with barely any promotion set up some fabulous beach parties at Delano. This year Fuse finds a new home some metres away from the old location.

Starting from Tuesday, 1st June, they are bringing the undeniable vibe and sound that inspires their phenomenal events in London to Ushuaia, turning again Tuesdays into Fusedays with some breathtaking parties.

Resident DJ’s Enzo Siragusa and Nima Gorji will now spend Tuesdays in the brand new DJ booth at Ushuaia. Over the course of the summer Fuse will host 5 parties there, running from 16:00 to midnight. After completing her training at the Vienna fashion school in Hetzendorf castle, Julia worked with Maestro Rolando Segalin, Venice‘s most famous shoemaker. Soon followed numerous shows and exhibitions around the world such as the New York Fashion Week in 2005 where she was presenting her collection to an audience such as Donna Karan and Patricia Fields. Back in Venice, she opened a second studio and founded the „Julia Cranz Hats, Hat pieces and more“ label. In July 2008, Julia presented her collection during the Berlin Fashion Week and since spring 2010 her pieces are available also in two shops in Ibiza.

Magic Boat Parties are a true classic among the boat parties in Ibiza. Since 7 years Emanuela and her team are taking their guests on an unforgetable trip to Formentera and Illetas, dancing in the sun to the beats of resident DJ’s Javy Barreda and Konra, together with the special guests DJ’s during the season as David and Toni Moreno, Jonathan Tena, Missy Jay, Ronro, Gian Giu Redesca and many more.

There are special artistic performances and live music with sax and drums, great views on Benirras by sunset with jet skis available for even more fun and many other surprises, also dinner is served and of course drinks. Like for all boat parties in Ibiza advance booking is required.

Circus On The Sea From June to September you can experience the Circus On The Sea catamaran boat party on Tuesdays, starting from San Antonio’s Plastik bar with 80 party people aboard, enyoing themselves and the outdoor party atmosphere for a couple of unforgetable hours, grooving with the moves of the sea and the sound.

Enjoy an incredible fusion of partying with authentic chilled Balearic flair. The tour includes one hour of free drinking, swimming breaks and passes for selected after-show events.

Hi guys, please introduce yourself with some words!

We met around six years ago in our hometown Szczecin, Poland, and decided to start a project called 3 Channels, focused mostly on techno and minimal. After some time, as our music got more diverse, we decided to kick-off Catz n Dogz and lately are focusing only on this.

We have released the animal!

What‘s your impression about Ibiza and the party scene of the island?

Without doubt Ibiza is a special island. People are coming here to have fun, there is lots of sun and a smile comes on your face instantly, so the island is full of positive music. It’s also pretty intense!

You can party almost all the time, haha, so sometimes it’s just fun to stay whole day somewhere and do nothing, hahaha!

How are you preparing yourself for your gig end of this month in Ibiza?

As we play every weekend it’s hard to say that we are preparing ourselves for a gig. It’s rather a constant process, but yeah - definitely we do have some special summer tunes for the Zoo! We did a few edits of old tracks, refreshing them with new drums and percussions, also after the summer we are releasing an album on Mothership, so for sure looking forward to test some new stuff on the Zoo party!

Please tell us more about your musical concept and future plans!

There are a lot of things going on at the moment. Apart from Channels Records we’ve started our new label called PETS, did remixes for Moonharbour, Buzzin Fly, Made to Play, and as I mentioned before after the summer we are releasing the second album on Mothership.

There will be some cool features on the album with Claude VonStroke, dOP, Paul Randolph and also with our friend Nicholas from New York.

Recent Catz n Dogz tracks can also be found on Rootz and Glass Table – the new label of Jamie Russell from London.

What do you like most when thinking about playing at one of the parties this summer at the Zoo? We like that the party has a really good and friendly atmosphere, and is honestly a really well organized event! The guys from The Zoo Project are our good friends so I’m sure we will have a lot of fun! We are really happy also to play again on the Noah‘s Ark boat party. It was a great experience last year, so we are really looking forward to it!

From old to Novum

Since a few years Ibiza sees an expanding trend that more and more high-class hotels, stylish beach clubs, bars and restaurants are attracting a sophisticated international lifestyle-oriented crowd.

The opening party of the new restaurant Novum end of May turned out to be one of the hottest openings this season! The two famous gourmet restaurants El Pato and Ars Vivendi on the road to Santa Gertrudis this spring were refurbished totally and re-opened as Novum.

Novum is a new fashionable nightlife hotspot in Ibiza, offering a wonderful garden lounge, several bars and tents, also Ulises Braun’s Reunion Bar will be located here from this year. There are two main dining areas, one called “Gourmet” (which is indeed very expensive) and the more casual “Wok” area.

Here, at the Wok, you can get something to eat until 3:00 (in the morning), a service that was really missing in Ibiza. So, even if you just fancy some late-night antipasti, salad or soup - everything is prepared fresh and right infront you, doesn’t matter what time. It’s perfect for people who want to eat something solid before having a long night out at the clubs.
