What is AdBlue®? A Urea exhaust fluid for late model diesels. It contains 32.5% Urea and the rest should be high quality de-mineralised water. What is AdBlue® used for? Many new diesel vehicle manufacturers including Renault, Citroen, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Ford, Mazda, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz now require the use of a Diesel Exhaust Fluid, commonly referred to as AdBlue®. This fluid is automatically injected into the vehicle’s exhaust system to help reduce oxides of nitrogen emitted from vehicle, in order to meet Euro 5 emissions standards.
Does the vehicle need AdBlue® to run? AdBlue isn’t required for the engine to work. However, because it keeps emissions within legal requirements, the car’s engine is programmed to stop working if there is insufficient AdBlue.
How much is used? Usage of AdBlue depends on your vehicle use and driving style. As a guide, a tank of AdBlue typically lasts 12,000 to 16,000km of normal driving, about 1L per 1000kms.
