WE MAKE OUR CITY
SPRING PROGRAMME 26 FEBRUARY - 18 APRIL FESTIVAL 15 - 16 MARCH
BARKING AND DAGENHAM
Something amazing is happening in the heart of Barking and Dagenham. People from all backgrounds are spending time together, pouring their creativity, time and energy into making their neighbourhoods friendly, beautiful and productive. People are showing that the future is theirs to make, with their own two hands, and by working together with their neighbours. People are sharing their skills and ideas and making new friends. They are planting fruit trees and making it possible for children to play in their streets safely. They are making things last longer, reusing, repurposing and composting. They are sharing community meals, inventing new products and new livelihoods in collaborative teams. Through these collective practical actions people in Barking and Dagenham are bringing a sense of hope and optimism that has the attention of people all over the country and the world! We Make Our City programme is a celebration of this inspiring spirit. In the pages of this newspaper you will find 100 projects and 260 events that you can come along to this Spring - created by your neighbours. People living in this borough have huge talents, just like you, waiting to be shared through cooking, making, learning, planting, sharing, repairing, playing‌ We Make Our City Festival celebrates the launch of the borough’s public makerspace, The Warehouse in Thames Road, which will be filled with shared spaces, equipment and collaborative business programmes. It will have workshop spaces for designing and making new products, an industrial kitchen space for creating and testing new food businesses, and equipment for working with fabrics and making clothing. As well as supporting new business ideas, The Warehouse will be a resource for people of the borough to work together to shape their neighbourhoods. Please come along, share your talents and ideas, and make your city.
