DECE M B E R 2024

Event 1: Spirit FM’s annual Christmas Open House was on Tuesday, December
3. The event was a success with 87 guests, lots of laughter, cookies, hot chocolate, gifts and pictures! Many families even traveled over an hour to attend.
Late morning we hosted quite a few families that homeschool and used the day as a field trip.
Prayer requests were added to our prayer wall.
Longtime listener, Francis, shared
“I loved and enjoyed the Open House today! It was so wonderful seeing all of you again!”
Jackie Howard was in the studio showing how things worked and a few people recorded liners, including Griffin from Rocky Mount. He said “This was a dream for him.”
Caleb brought his four sons, and they had a great time in our 360 photo booth. Caleb said they had the time of their life!
On Wednesday, December 4th, Doug and Joseph attended the Steven Curtis Chapman Acoustic Tour in Highland Heights, in Rustburg, VA. It was a great way to connect with listeners and kick-off the Christmas concert season. With over 900 attending the concert, Spirit FM handed out 30-day Devotions and talked up the 30-day challenge for the new year.
On December 4th, Anne Wilson stopped by the Spirit FM Studio and cohosted a few breaks with Doug in the Afternoon. She discussed her new song, The Cross, featuring Chris Tomlin. Anne shared her personal story of how local Christian radio ministered to her and her family when they lost her brother, and emphasized the importance of supporting local radio. The staff had an opportunity to pray over Anne for her health with the upcoming WinterJam tour and the 40 stops.
Events 4-7:
Spirit FM participated in 4 local Christmas parades! The SUV was decorated for the season with lights and antlers and a red nose, along with the LOVE trailer in tow!
1. December 6th: Mike made the trip out to Blacksburg for the Christmas parade and had a great time sharing holiday cheer with those in attendance!
2. December 7th: We attended the Bedford Christmas parade, and was able to share the Hope for Every Season with thousands of parade goers.
3. December 8th: Jackie went to the Lynchburg parade, and had this to say: “At the Lynchburg parade I got to meet one of the workers with the organizing committee that also did the Bedford parade the day before. He told me he got out on the road to Bedford, only to realize that he didn’t know the EXACT way to the line-up spot...but then the Spirit FM Love Sign went by him and he knew he could follow us! Jingling all the way!”
4. December 13th: We had the beautiful opportunity to take part in the Roanoke Christmas parade and see all the different floats, dancers, and bands that participated! We loved being a part of spreading joy and cheer to everyone who came out with their families! The most memorable participant was the group of kids who danced to the theme song from the Polar express!
On December 7th, Spirit FM hosted it’s 4th annual Women’s Conference: “Fear Is Not My Future.” Madisen Renee of Elevation Rhythm led worship and Dr. Joy Greene of Joytime Ministries brought a powerful message speaking right to our hearts about fear and anxiety. We partnered with The Lampstand, Virginia’s first safe home for women and children rescued from trafficking, and donated new household goods to help with their needs. With shopping, the 360 camera experience, worship and connection, it was a great event.
We had a sweet listener, Kim stop by our Station to drop off a big stack of coupons for us to use at her ice cream shop, Klines Dairy Bar! Kim loves listening to our Station and wanted to do something to bless us and show her support of the ministry. She was also gracious enough to let us know to contact her in the event we ever need any “hookups” for other events, fundraiser, etc. Oh, and Kim is a big fan of Miss Jess and got to meet her as well!
A listener reached out to our Station to ask if we could send out Butterfly Hugs® to a few loved ones battling cancer; including her mother and aunt (who she is caregivers for). These Butterfly Hugs® have been waiting for this day their whole lives. Today, they get to spread their wings and fly to their new homes, where we pray they will bless an individual’s spirit by reminding them that they are not alone during this difficult journey. These butterflies provide such a beautiful representation of the hope and strength that we can seek and find in God’s loving embrace.
Spirit FM partnered with The Salvation Army in Roanoke and “rang the bell” for the afternoon. It was a great time to say hello to shoppers in the hustle and bustle. We met listeners and connected with potential new listeners, including Darlene. She accidentally locked her keys in the car and asked if we could help. She used Joseph’s phone to make a call and then Robin offered and drove Darlene to her house. After the event, we had a group lunch for a Christmas party. There we sat next to a lovely couple who knows, loves and supports us, Bill and Lillian.
We received a text message from a listener this morning with wonderful news of them being baptized. We are so encouraged by hearing from our listeners on how God’s grace works in their lives through the music and messages our Station plays.
This is an email Robyn (our VP of Underwriting) received from one of our business partners: “Hi Robyn! I apologize for the delay, God just spoke to me through Spirit FM & we will absolutely be continuing. Thank you for lifting me up today! I feel like I do the majority of my praying in the car & I was driving to RVCS to pick up my daughter & praying for my friend & that she will somehow find Jesus in the midst of this tragedy that she is navigating. Crowders new song “Somebody Prayed” came on during my prayer & the tears started flowing. I know that He is hearing our prayers & He spoke to me through Spirit FM today. THANK YOU. Thank you for all that you do! Please continue to pray for my friend & that somehow our prayers will be answered & she find Jesus. Thank you, thank you! Merry Christmas if I do not speak to you before then!”
We are so blessed by our business partners and their support of the ministry. But it’s so awesome to be told by a business partner, that they experience and feel the touch of God and the encouragement themselves from listening to our Station!
When making “thank you” calls to donors after the fundraiser in October, Stephanie spoke with Mara, and prayed about a “new to her” car she desperately needed. On December 5, Mara called back to report her praise! God delivered her a brand new 2025 car for less than she was budgeting. Mara says she loves following “The God of everything who cares for us in the little details.”
Our engagement numbers on social went up in the month of December! We loved talking with you through social, and inspiring you to live passionately for Jesus through the Christmas season.
Jess and Stephanie were invited to WDBJ to discuss the fourth annual Women’s Conference: “Fear is Not My Future.” With five minutes on live TV, they chatted about the theme, the speaker: Dr. Joy Greene, and worship artist, Madisen Renee. Also included in the details was the discount ticket opportunity. Host, Logan, opened the door for conversation about the Holy Spirit and allowed a light gospel message to be shared!
