“Dear Melody, This letter has been a long time coming. The thoughts have been running around in my head for a while. Your recent comment on the morning show last week as to being 50ish and having survived many of life’s ups and downs made me decide to put my thoughts on paper.
My connection to Joy FM goes back before the days of Daniel Britt. During this time, I too have experienced many challenges and positive events.
In 2011 I started new employment in Winson Salem. Your Morning Show made the commute from Denton more enjoyable. It helped me face each day and unwind on the way home. During this time, I experienced several losses. My mother passed away in December 2016, my sister in August 2021, my brother in October 2021. Also, my brother-in-law (who I was guardian for after his wife, my sister, died) passed away in April 2022. I was executor for both estates, grieving and trying to keep my head above water so to speak. I retired at the end of 2021 and there could not have been a better timing for retirement. Working and processing estates (in Fayetteville and Goldsboro) would have been next to impossible.
I know you lost your mother and dad during this time. Your dad just recently. You know the void this creates, not to mention the estate process.
The BRIGHT spots! During this time my first grandchild arrived in August 2016. The birth of my granddaughter helped ease the pain of losing my mother just four months later. The second grandchild arrived in March 2019. The addition of the second granddaughter helped me survive the 2021 events.
All during this time my one go-to song was “When God Has Another Plan.” Hearing that song at just the right time, many, many times, helped me survive. Thank you (and the many other hosts)for your uplifting radio show. Your faith is a positive inspiration for all listeners.
My life is back to normal now. My wonderful, supportive and loving spouse and I both turned 70 last year, and celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in May of this year. We are both healthy individuals and look forward to many more years together.

I’ve listened to Joy FM for years and begin my mornings with the Gaither Homecoming program at 5 am. I was so sorry when Candi left, but have enjoyed her filling in when you are away. Speaking of you being away, Monday of this week you attended Darrell’s Assumption of Command. It was the most interesting story, and I have shared it with others. I am so excited to get to meet you and the staff next Friday. I called you and we spoke a couple years ago when you spoke about your Mom, and played the song you sang at her funeral. You and I were very close to our Moms. I am now old and a grandmother to six grandchildren. They are a blessing. You, Melody, are such a blessing to so many Joy listeners. I’m 83 years old and I know Melody was talking about the age in the 80s this morning on the radio. I do more praying now than I ever have. Melody was talking about our productive years of being older and I had a great time. I’m a Vietnam veteran. I was in Vietnam in 1967 & 68.
