Have you ever wanted to write a letter to someone expressing your deepest desires, fears, and dreams? You have come to the write place. The Unsent Letter Mailbox began in New York City in February 2024, offering a home for unsent letters, anonymous confessions, unspoken thoughts, and raw truths.
ULM Process
The letters provided a snapshot of a moment in time when a participant confronts hidden or suppressed memories and feelings.

You write an anonymous letter, drop it in the mailbox, and in exchange, you get to read one written by someone else.

First we set up popup activations across the New School campus, asking our community, how do they create change?

Step Students and faculty took time out of their busy days to write anoynmous letters to family, friends, exes, and lovers.
Step If passerbyers didn’t have time to fill out a letter, there was the option to write a letter and leave it in one of the two mailboxes placed around campus.

The overwhelming response from the New School community, meant we had hundreds of letters to choose from. These letters crossed cultures and ranged in languages from Spanish to Chinese. They were messages filled with love, concern, joy and anger and we were able to hold space for the array of human experiences.

Unsent Letters Salon
After four pop-ups, we held a salon showcasing many of the anonymous letters written by the New School community. Followed by an open dialgoue on what emotions, impact and meaning of the unsent letters.The experience generated a sense of deep connection within the group as we recognized shared human
