Once again, the holiday season is right around the corner, and I imagine all of us are eager to finally ring in some holiday cheer with each other once again. When it comes to gift-giving, so many of us continue looking for the best online deals, and a quick gift from a big box store for our loved ones.
But as we slowly come back from the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, we must remember that supporting our local businesses directly supports our community. This holiday season, let’s celebrate our local business owners. Now is the perfect time to explore our many local shops and indulge in our fabulous local restaurants. Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 as a way to help small businesses attract customers on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but that’s just one day in a season filled with deals, discounts, and door-busters.
This holiday season, we need every day to be small business Saturday. Treat yourself to any of our fabulous local restaurants. Get your home improvement project going with a stop at the hardware store. Stock up on toys and games at a hobby shop. Get ready for spring sports at our athletic retail stores. Re-furnish your home with selections from our local furniture stores. Get more out of your car with the help of our local automotive stores.
Our small businesses continue to be the lifeblood that drive our local economy. Our Township’s excellence and desirability is directly related to its healthy and vibrant small business community. Now more than ever, Parsippany’s small businesses need our help. There are so many great small businesses here in Parsippany. We all need to do our part to keep them going – this holiday season and beyond.
According to a 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study by American Express, two-thirds of every dollar ($0.67) spent in local small businesses remain in the local community.
Additionally, every dollar spent at these businesses creates an additional $0.50 used in other local business activities, as a result of employee spending and businesses purchasing local goods and services. Suffice to say, buying locally helps our community in ways we may not realize.
