#PARKSIDESTRONG

The 2020-2021 school year was unforgettable to say the least. While our school continued to navigate a global pandemic, our students and staff exemplified the true meaning of #PARKSIDESTRONG. I have never seen such a resilient community, willing to persevere through any challenge in order to ensure students’ academic and emotional growth. This year, the cohort system was introduced as a way to limit exposure to COVID-19, and while it took time to adjust to our new protocols, the cohort system had many benefits.

Typically, therapists work with students of varying ages, but this year we did our best to keep our cohorts tight. Not only did this cohort system provide a safer learning environment, but it promoted an extremely nurturing place for learning. Students, family members, and staff members relied on this smaller team and we became a cohort family. Each year I continue to be amazed with our supportive and compassionate staff, and this year was no exception. While we experienced a seemingly constant transition between hybrid learning, Zoom learning, and in-person learning based on the needs of our students, we still managed to have a great time and create special Parkside memories together. The students enjoyed participating in a virtual talent show and holiday parties, in addition to several other incredible events. These activities are crucial for building bonds between students and encouraging social growth. With each “zoop” that we experienced this year, our school was committed to fulfilling our mission to serve the whole child, through a collaborative approach. The Parkside community deserves recognition for not only being devoted to academic success, but for ensuring the emotional wellbeing of all members of its family.
