Founding member and club treasurer Maurice Spangler said the Itascatur Outdoor Activity Club formally incorporated in 1979 as a nonprofit, with the goal of promoting the sport of cross-country skiing in the Park Rapids area. “We incorporated in ’79, but the club was developing trails probably a few years before that,” he said. From about 1979 to 1981, the club maintained 13 kilometers of groomed ski trails called the Long Pine Trail, located on County 6 on Potlatch land.
