WORDS FROM THE HEART My father always talks about ‘investing in people’. And that’s what I think I’ve done during my time here at Parish; I’ve invested my time, effort and passion into people and trying to help them as much as they help me. . . . [It’s] so hard for me to accept that I won’t be there in August, yet I do know that Parish will always be a home for me. . . . [it] will always welcome me back . . . the drill team will always give me a salute when I come to a football game . . . the rover team, as crazy as they are, will still call me Mama Whitney . . . I know that no matter how far I get, part of me will be here, because of the people who are here. Whitney Wheeler – Baccalaureate Address
. . . my relationship with this graduating class is different. . . . Among this group of 103 seniors are 40 of my AP Psychology students, 20 of my AP Biology students, 19 of my Psychology of Leadership students, 16 of my soccer players, 14 of my four year advisees, one of my nephews and my daughter. . . .Whatever your individual talents allow you to do, embody the tenets of Wisdom, Honor and Service that your school has encouraged in you. . . . Our hope is that you never see yourself as a finished product. Instead always be in a state of becoming. . . . while we can no longer cradle you in our arms, we still look at you with amazement. Competent, confident, intelligent, kind, beautiful young adults and we wonder: how it is possible . . . that we may have played some role in helping form who you are? This Parish family is a family I know I will have for the rest of my life. . . . Of Course, everyone has their separate friend groups, different interests . . . [but] we all stick together. When it comes time to do something as a class, or when a classmate is going through a hard time . . . our whole class is there to have each other’s backs. . . . from the whole class, to the parents, advisors, our friends, college counseling, the administration, and most importantly Mrs. Lyon, thank you. Thank you for laughing...or crying...with us through our jokes, mistakes and the hard times. Thank you for always having faith in us . . . no matter what.

Each of us are going to have our own “hole” we are afraid to fall into. Whether it be stepping on the field for the first time as a collegiate football player, moving in with a perfectly random stranger, performing in your first play as a college actor, or bringing home your first serious boyfriend or girlfriend for Christmas, remember to take it all in. We are all growing and learning everyday, facing new challenges and obstacles. And, when things get tough, we can reflect on the lessons we learned at Parish. . . . Sometimes making sure you don’t fall on your face is important, but it’s also okay to take a stumble every once in a while. Get up and carry on. We have to remember to reflect on where we are, where we are going, and who we want to be; our successes AND our failures are all a part of that. Wallace Dean – Commencement Address

I came to Parish for a better academic experience . . . Coach Savage introduced me to the School and encouraged me to take this step . . . I’ve given it all I had . . . and I’ve done my best to keep my promise to Coach Savage . . . I’m proud to be the first person in my family heading to college to pursue a better life. Now I wish time would slow down because it means we are leaving a place that has shaped me and the class of 2017 into the people we are today. . . . I have grown to understand the importance of kindness, respect, service and finding a passion. We haven’t just learned math and English and reading skills, but forgiveness and generosity, how to make a mistakes but also how to learn from them. These are the skills that the class of 2017 is taking with us into the world. And I hope that wherever we travel in this life, we will always keep these values close by.

I consider myself one of the luckiest kids out there . . . these are the good old days. . . these are the days and times you will look back on and remember . . . Whether Parish has been your home for two years or 15, you are considered part of the Panther family, and will be forever.

…in our Parish Universe we recognize the good in everyone and treasure the heroes of Parish and the Class of 2017. As a class we have diligently strived to keep everything at Parish in balance. . . . This year was the end to our epic superhero film. . . . this story, the stories in between, and the stories to come, were all thanks to this superhero school. at Parish. But, more than that, a “Lifer” represents the support, comfort and challenge that is the Parish family, evident throughout the entire student body, prekindergarten through 12th grade. Over the past 11 graduating classes, Parish has had 216 Lifers.
