This report is a snapshot of the incredible philanthropic gifts the School received last school year and their impact on our community, as well as the impact of the gifts of time our many, many volunteers invested. Every year, the Parish community donates their time and talents to further enrich our programs and student experiences. The thousands of hours our volunteers give truly make an extraordinary difference in the day-to-day lives of our 1180+ strong student body. The support these volunteers provide to the areas of academics, athletics, arts and student life cannot be understated. We simply would not be able to do many of the things our community enjoys without them. The financial gifts the School receives each year help us maintain and grow our ever-thriving facilities, retain and attract stellar faculty and staff, and honor our tenets of Wisdom, Honor and Service as we continually guide our students to be creative learners and bold leaders of impact. Whether a gift has an immediate impact, such as gifts to Parish Fund, Gala or a restricted gift, or a long-lasting one, as our endowment does each year, every gift is further investing in our most valuable assets – our students and their futures. 2022-2023 FINANCIAL REPORT ANNUAL ENDOWMENT LETTER SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, the return on the Parish Episcopal School Endowment Fund (the “Fund”) was 9.1% compared to -13.2% for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. The Fund distributed $725,500 toward the School’s operating budget in fiscal 2023. The purpose of the Fund is to provide liquidity in support of the School’s ongoing operations and to provide financial stability to the School. The Fund is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors (the “Endowment Board”) that is elected, on a rolling basis, to three-year terms. These directors offer a wide variety of professional skills that provide insight and direction regarding the Fund’s policies, strategies and investments. The Fund files an annual Form 990 reporting operating results and assets held, which are consolidated with the School’s assets for purposes of the annual audit. The large investment return swing between fiscal 2023 and fiscal 2022 highlights the necessity of focusing on long-term, risk adjusted returns with a pre-established range of investment assets’ portfolio limits. To that end, our investment funds are managed by Truist ($17.7 million) and the Episcopal Foundation ($1.1 million). The donated land, which sits in front of the School between Sigma Road and Midway Road, is also part of our endowment portfolio and is currently used as a soccer field and provides space for future expansion of the Midway campus. 7

The Fund will make its annual distribution of approximately $740,000 in January 2024. Over the past 11 years, we have seen a steady rise in annual distributions, which have totaled $4.6 million. These distributions support our students, employees and the School community. In addition to the annual distributions, the Fund provided $3 million in funding support during construction of the Noble Family Performing Arts Center.

We believe the growth of the Fund is strategically critical for the long-term success of the School. The new administration, the Endowment Board and the School’s Board of Trustees are working hard to plan for this growth in the days to come. Thank you for your interest in the Fund. Why I give? "I initially got involved at Parish many years ago when our children were in PreK as a way to meet other parents and facilitate playdates for our children. I became progressively more involved each year because I truly enjoyed it. Why I give? When our first son, Luke, was accepted to Parish, Will and I felt so fortunate and knew we needed to support the School not just with monetary gifts but with our time and talents as well. When we make a commitment, especially to a school, we want to become involved and help make an impact. To that end, we joined the Athletic Booster Club, and volunteered for the Buddy Family Program and to help in the lunchroom. I was the Parish Fund class representative last year and was thrilled that I was asked to help. It was an opportunity to meet the new incoming Parish families and support the School. We feel it is important to give financially, attend school events, and be involved in volunteer efforts. In doing so, we have been the beneficiaries of new friendships with other parents, faculty and staff. With two sons now enrolled, we hope they see our enthusiasm for Parish. We know Luke and Palmer spend their school days in a joyful and nurturing environment and are in the capable hands of experienced faculty. Thus far, everything we have “invested” in Parish has yielded significant returns. We want Luke and Palmer to have a great childhood and educational experience, and learn the importance of investing time and effort into people and places that matter. IMPACT OF YOUR GIFT Classroom Learning & Professional Development Ruth Keefer (K - 2nd Grade Visual Art) "Every summer I participate in an intensive to deepen my artistic practice. I am so appreciative to work in a place that provides a wealth of professional development opportunities for me to add to my toolbox. The human forms that 2nd graders completed last year were made possible by two summer professional development sessions I attended – Teaching for Artistic Behaviors and Paper Mache Sculpture. My undergraduate studio art concentration is in drawing and painting, and 3D has always been a struggle for me. Therefore, I work hard to try to understand how to teach it. These two courses completely transformed my way of thinking and helped me to see how early learners can have more voice and choice. Since I teach the same group of students for four or five years, I am familiar with their skill sets. In January, I knew that my 2nd graders could handle this challenge. I gave the students the skills they needed to be successful. We often improvised and students learned to problem solve together. When something didn’t work, we got creative and added a different ingredient like Kleenex, paper towels or masking tape. I enjoyed watching the students personalize their figures and add details that reflect their own hobbies and interests. In May, I took pictures of students with their works and they were beaming with pride. I am thankful for the parent volunteers and Blair Fellow students who helped me prep the materials for this special project. And, I’m grateful to Hutch Hutcheson, Director of PARISHarts, for encouraging me to take photos of the process. Often we look at art and don’t realize all the steps and all the grit it takes to create something." 13

5th grade One Read - Interdisciplinary

Campus Security

Last fall, a lot of fun and engagement took place with our STEM and 5th grade humanities classes. Students read the novel “Maya and the Robot” and engaged in cross-curricular work and collaboration. Our 5th graders had the opportunity to work with different robots and complete multiple robotics activities related to the novel. They also heard from and worked with members of our Upper School Rover team, who explained the design process they go through to build the Parish Rover.

Gifts given to the annual fund helped support the general operating budget of our security efforts during the 2022-2023 school year, which was a record high of more than $915,000. A safety officer on each campus was added by the School in addition to the off-duty, local police officers that are stationed at our campuses each day.

Finally, students were given the mission to design their own robot, with specifications on what they could and could not use to design and construct it. Unrestricted gifts helped support this immersive experience for our students, allowing our Middle School teams to purchase books for each student as well as the materials needed for the STEM projects during the exciting collaboration!

A new background and check-in system for campus visitors was also purchased, in addition to the required name badges our parents and employees wear. Handheld radios for every teacher on the Hillcrest campus and extra cameras for the loading dock and athletic complex on the Midway campus were a part of the enhanced updates as well. Thanks in part to the generosity of our community, Parish continues to keep safety and security a top priority.

Learning from Global Scholars in your own backyard Tom Silva, Director of Academy of Global Studies In the Academy of Global Studies (AGS), our mission revolves around fostering an in-depth comprehension of the global processes and systems that shape the human experience while nurturing a solution-driven mindset in our AGS scholars. Integral to achieving these goals are off-campus excursions, supported by gifts to the School and AGS, which provide invaluable real-world experiences. While our students routinely engage movers and shakers through the Tate Lecture Series at SMU (i.e., Marlee Matlin, Ian Bremer, Jonathan Haidt, Cornell West, Robert George and Martha Stewart), it is our annual trip to the Texas A&M AgriLife Center at Dallas that offers a more comprehensive perspective on how some scholars are actively confronting contemporary challenges. At the Texas A&M AgriLife Center, students see first-hand how scientists are confronting crop blight with gene editing, urban water pollution with green architecture, water scarcity with hydroponics, and more. This excursion challenges students to merge curiosity, knowledge, and courage to thoughtfully and respectfully engage adults who are working at the top of their respective fields. 15

Leading through immersion Shannon Longfield, Director of ParishServes and Leadership Institute The Leadership Institute (LI) is dedicated to immersing students in experiential learning opportunities that require us to venture beyond the halls of Parish. Last year, our 2025 cohort went to Leonides Gonzalez Cigarroa, M.D. Elementary School to facilitate a “Getting Ready for Junior High” workshop for current 6th grade students. LI cohorts surveyed the Cigarroa students to determine what aspects of transitioning to junior high they were most concerned about, and designed a series of interactive workshops based on the needs of the Cigarroa students. This outing allowed LI students to use empathetic design to make a personal connection with students who face daunting challenges daily. In addition, the 2023 cohort traveled to TCU in Fort Worth to attend the Neeley Fellows leadership project showcase. Neeley Fellows is TCU’s premier undergraduate business honors program that spans three years to provide a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom. In many ways, it mirrors what we do in LI, but at a collegiate level. Traveling to TCU also afforded the opportunity to tour the campus and learn more about the school’s academic offerings. Our students returned to Parish inspired and eager to tackle their own leadership projects! 16

World Languages Culinary Cultures Class The Upper School World Language elective, Culinary Cultures, developed through a PETI (Parish Excellence in Teaching Institute) grant, explores the international history and culture of a country through its most iconic and traditional ingredients. Students learn how cultures and foods have influenced and produced each country's cuisine. Through additional support from gifts to Parish, the School was able to create six workstations for two students each for this class, which includes portable ovens, hot plates, a blender and mixer, as well as the requisite pots, pans, bowls, cutting boards and utensils. Money from the operating budget allowed updates to the sink in the classroom to install hot water and a garbage disposal as well as updates to the electrical outlets to accommodate appliances.

Health & Wellness: Hillcrest PE Programming Tracey Kee, Assistant Athletic Director Thanks to the kindness and support of our donors, we were able to bolster our Hillcrest Physical Education program by purchasing new equipment, ensuring that our students have access to the best tools for their physical development and overall well-being. The additional equipment added to the motor lab significantly benefits our students by providing them with a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. The lab’s hands-on approach allows students to actively participate and experience the joy of problem-solving and teamwork.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

Weight Room

Softball

With assistance from the Athletic Booster Club, Parish was able to make improvements to the School's weight room, Coach Scully's Weight Room (named after long time Associate Head Football Coach, parent of alumni and former Board of Trustee member, John Scully), which is a space used daily by Upper School student athletes, trainers, coaches and, occasionally, our Parish alumni. Improvements include new paint, flooring and equipment such as weight machines, free weights, benches and more. According to Chris Mailand, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, the Parish weight room serves 50+ students per day and is used an average of 27 hours a week (Monday through Saturday) during the school year. Access to safe and effective training equipment helps our Parish Panthers stay strong and game ready!

The Softball team got a big win recently with the reopening of the softball field, now known as Whitaker Field at Tadewald Park, and its new Panther Blue Turf. Thanks to a matching leadership gift from Darla and Mark Whitaker (Jordan ’23), and support from the School’s capital budget and Athletic Booster Club, as well as several additional Parish families (from all three divisions), grandparents and alumni all stepping up to the plate together, the new softball field became a reality for our athletes. The Tadewald family, who has been a strong supporter for many years to the Parish community, endorsed the name change to Tadewald Park (formerly Tadewald Field), highlighting the evolution and growth of Parish Softball that they envisioned with their original support of the program as part of the 2012 Remarkable Realities Strategic Vision campaign.

Math Lab In the Parish Math Lab, a place that has been a part of Parish’s curriculum for many years, students can receive help throughout the school day from math faculty on concepts, assignments and retakes for quizzes and tests. While the space is usable, students agreed that the aesthetic of the environment could be a bit more inviting, which is where Peyton Wartell's ‘23 Leadership Insititute project comes in. Peyton discovered a way to broaden her knowledge in the field of interior design while impacting her peers and improving a space on campus – to redesign and modernize the Math Lab, making it a space that is “efficient as well as vibrant and comfortable to brighten [students’] Math Lab experience.” Peyton worked with administration and faculty to approve her project, design the space and manage the installation, which included a budget made possible by Parish Fund. While renovations are still in progress, when finished, the area will transform with bright blues and greens, and contain natural fibers. Acoustic panels will control sound and new furniture with more flexible seating accommodates group work and testing. Teachers benefit from added storage, three whiteboard tables and a check-in area for efficiency. Because of the room's versatility and wide use among students and teachers, the renovation of this space is a meaningful change at Parish and leaves a sizeable imprint.

Why I give? I volunteer my time because it gives me a way to support the teachers and staff who are helping shape my girls into young women. I want to do anything I can to enhance their Parish experience, and volunteering is one small but direct way that I can help the School move forward in a positive direction. HILLCREST PLAYGROUND In January 2023, Parish Episcopal School officially opened its new play space on the Hillcrest campus with a special Blessing of the Playground. Playground. The joyful morning was celebrated with students, donors, teachers, clergy and parents! Rebecca Gingles, Parish’s Hillcrest chaplain, and Father Casey Shobe, Rector of Church of the Transfiguration, led attendees in a blessing, while Michelle Lyon, Parish’s Associate Head of School (former Interim Allen Meyer Family Head of School), students and other school leaders and donors took part by sprinkling holy water on the playground and equipment as a special Litany for the Playground was recited. Parish began construction on the new playground in spring of 2022. The project, which originated in 2019 prior to the pandemic, was completed after much collaboration with a committee of Lower School teachers and design work by Studio Outside, as well as significant donor support. This dream playground serves the School’s PreK through 2nd graders, and includes developmentally appropriate equipment, along with the addition of artificial turf under the play equipment to reduce the frequency of indoor recess after rainy days. In addition to swing sets, slides, sport courts and open play areas, other fun features of the new playground include: Music Play area with sound pipes, drums and more; Outdoor Classroom space; Climber & Spinner equipment for older students; Nature Play area with boulders, sandbox, sitting/stepping logs, collection tables and a magnifying station to get a closer look at nature finds.

RESTRICTED FUNDS Class of 2023 Excellence in Leadership Award Established in 2020 by an anonymous donor and endowed by the Class of 2023 Senior Gift, the Class of 2023 Excellence in Leadership Award honors and recognizes full-time faculty and staff members who successfully demonstrate Parish Episcopal School’s core values of Wisdom, Honor and Service, as well as exceptional leadership skills in the following areas: a deep connection to the community; the propensity for integrity, courage, humility and fortitude as a leader; risk taking and tenacity; and the ability to think creatively and go the extra mile. In May 2023, Caroline Kaleigh, Assistant Head of Upper School for Student Life, was named the 2022-23 recipient of the Class of 2023 Excellence in Leadership Award. Community Service class Since 2018, the 8th grade Community Service class, a required trimester course, has been fortunate to have a $10,000 donation gifted three times a year – that’s $30,000 per year! – to a nonprofit organization that a student-group has chosen based on their shared service goals. The funds to support our 8th grade students in carrying out the School’s tenet of Service in this way come from the generous support of an anonymous donor. We thank them for providing the means for our 8th graders to make a bigger impact on their communities by going beyond a presentation and an idea. Each year, the students in the Community Service class reach out to approximately 65 different nonprofit organizations, and many of them form strong relationships. Once the students identify their chosen cause and organization, they must reach out to the staff of that organization and work with them to develop an innovative idea for which the donation would potentially be used. The students present to a panel of judges their developed, professional presentation about the nonprofit organization, highlighting their innovative idea. One selected group each trimester receives $10,000 to donate to their chosen organization for the development of their idea. “It was amazing for us as parents to see how proud and excited Riley was to be able to win this anonymous donation of $10,000 for the TRAC program at CitySquare, an organization which assists children aging out of foster care with their many needs. He researched the need, had numerous conversations with the program's director, then put together a truly heartfelt presentation to relay how important this organization is to so many young adults in the DFW area.
