FAQ’S -19 What is the facemask policy within the recreaon facilies?

To reduce the health risk to patrons, instructors and employees, facemasks that cover the nose and mouth are required within Plano’s recreaon facilies for individuals 10 and up. Facemasks may be removed while acvely engaged in designated physical exercise/acvies where a distance of six feet from other individuals not associated with you can be maintained at all mes. See the course descripon to confirm facemask requirements.

What else should I know about Plano Parks and Recreaon’s health and safety protocols before coming to class? Because we care about the health and safety of our patrons, instructors and employees, we ask that you comply with the following protocols when vising a recreaon facility:

1. WEAR A FACEMASK: Facemasks that cover the nose and mouth are required for individuals 10 and up within Plano’s recreaon facilies, unless acvely engaged in a physical exercise/acvity where facemasks are not required. See the course descripon to see if facemasks are required for your class. 2. SOCIAL DISTANCE: Patrons must maintain six feet of distance from others not a part of their household or associated with them at all mes. 3. DO NOT LINGER: Patrons not acvely engaged in a recreaon acvity or class or waing to parcipate, will be asked to exit the facility. Parent viewing is unavailable at this me, and lingering before or aer a class or workout is prohibited. 4. DO NOT ENTER IF SYMPTOMATIC: Individuals experiencing symptoms common to COVID-19 should refrain from entering the facility.

Can an instructor require facemasks even if Plano Parks and Recreaon does not?

Yes. A class instructor may impose stricter health and safety protocols for their class than is required by Plano Parks and Recreaon. Please see the class descripon for any addional protocols being implemented.

I don’t see many of the classes I usually like to sign up for. Will addional classes be added to the winter and spring sessions?

Due to the ongoing pandemic and our commitment to the health and safety of our patrons and staff, winter in-person classes are limited at this me. We will gradually resume addional in-person programming as condions allow. Please be sure your email address on your Recreaon Online account is current so we can keep you up-to-date as circumstances change. We will also share updates to winter programming on our web site and on social media.

When will programming for seniors be offered at the Sam Johnson Recreaon Center?

Because those 65 and up are at higher risk for geng very sick from COVID-19, the Governor and the CDC both connue to advise seniors to stay home if possible. We will connue to follow their guidance and consider resuming programs at the Sam Johnson Recreaon Center as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meanme, we encourage you to check out our list of online programming opons for seniors. Also, be sure to contact Sara Deats at sarad@plano.gov if you would like to begin receiving the Trendseer, Sam Johnson Recreaon Center’s monthly newsleer, to stay up to date with online programming updates, and informaon specifically for individuals 50+.

Will you be connuing online programming throughout the year?

Yes. Online programming, although a response to the pandemic, has been found to be popular with many of our patrons and therefore, we hope to connue to offer and even expand our selecon of online classes. Please check our web site frequently for addions to our online selecon of classes.

The holidays allow us to reflect on “all things wise and wonderful.” As this year draws to a close, I am thankful for life, family, health and wellbeing, I am grateful for Parks and Recreation staff, who spent the better part of 2020 developing policies and procedures to serve the community and support public safety. I am thankful for you, our patrons, who have been so diligent in adhering to safety protocols, allowing us to welcome you back to our recreation centers. As part of this effort, the City of Plano collaborated with Bureau Veritas, a facility inspection company, to review our re-opening protocols. I am proud to announce that the Department’s facilities protocols have received the Bureau Veritas Certification for Hygiene Safety Excellence. This means the City is meeting strict sanitation practices at our recreation facilities. Our patrons can feel safe at our facilities as we work together to keep everyone safe and healthy. I am also proud to announce this year’s Winter program catalog. This winter session includes more of our most popular programs. Inside you will find programs for children, adults, and seniors. For those not yet ready to return in person, we offer a variety of online options (page 31) for you to engage in during the winter months. We recognize the COVID-19 pandemic has been especially hard on our seniors. We look forward to the day when the virus is no longer a threat so we can resume programming at the Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+. Stay up-to-date with our department through our e-newsletter and by following us on social media. You can visit www.planoparks.org for project updates, informative stories, and general information on our parks, trails and facilities. From everyone at Plano Parks and Recreation, we wish you and yours a joyous and safe holiday season. Ron Smith Director, Plano Parks and Recreation

An administrative fee of $15 for a 90-minute practice reservation is charged. If lights are necessary, there is an additional charge of $40 per hour. Reservations can be made online after contacting athletics staff at 972-942-5413 or by email at fieldreservations@plano.gov. An account must be set up and Plano residency verified. Reservations are accepted between two and ten days in advance of the desired practice reservation. Walk-in and telephone hours are 10am to 2pm, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Recurring practice sessions are not available. Fields are provided for general public practice access after local leagues have an opportunity to schedule make-up games and practices. Instruction

Teen-Adult classes have a minimum of six students and a maximum of ten students per class. Youth classes have a maximum of eight students. Pee Wee classes have a maximum of six students. To avoid cancellation of a class, a class may “make” with less than six students, but with a reduced number of sessions. Classes at the same level and similar age groups may be combined at the discretion of High Point staff. Any group of two or more players may schedule a special class by contacting High Point staff at 972-941-7170. Group lessons are very popular and some classes fill very quickly. To assure a continuous chain of instruction, we recommend that students enroll for multiple sessions at the time of initial registration. For example, a student should enroll for a Beginner session in the first session, an Advanced Beginner I group in the second session, and an Advanced Beginner II group in the third session.

10 & Under Tennis

High Point participates year round in the QuickStart Tennis play format, a national program designed to help children learn, rally, and play quickly. Using shorter and lighter racquets, balls that are easy to keep in play, and court dimensions tailored to smaller players, youngsters from ages 5-10 pick up the game very quickly. In short time, young players are able to keep the ball in play and play points just like older and more experienced players. In time, as students’ games improve and as they mature physically, they move to traditional rackets, balls, and courts. QuickStart is a great way to introduce children to the great game of tennis!

We encourage players to continue learning and playing in progressively more challenging courses. The goal is to have students playing tennis (in some form) as soon as possible. As a player improves, more course time is spent on point-play like situations. For children, the instructional/play sequence is: Beginner or Pee Wee I lessons (depending on age of child), Advanced Beginner or Pee Wee II lessons, and Future Stars or Pre Junior Development (Play and Instructional Programs), Competitive, and Elite Junior Development. For teens, the sequence is Beginner, Advanced Beginner I, Advanced Beginner II, Learn N Play, Future Stars, Competitive, and Elite Junior Development. WAITING LISTS If a course is full you may ask to have your name placed on the waiting list for that course at no cost. The computer system maintains the waiting list in the order persons are placed there. When cancellation by a participant in the course occurs, the computer notifies staff members of an opening and of the first person named on the list. Staff will notify, in waiting list order, the persons on the list and offer the opportunity to register for the course at that time. Payment for the course will be required at the time of registration. If you are contacted from a wait list and enrolled for that course, you will be removed from any wait lists for similar courses.

REFUNDS Please read the following refund policy for courses, programs, trips and camps. Full refunds will be granted* when requested two weeks or more prior to the start date of the program. Refunds requested less than two weeks prior to the start date of the program will not be granted unless the vacated spot is filled. If the spot is filled, a refund less a $5 administrative fee will be granted. Medical refunds requested with a doctor’s note prior to the start date of the program will be granted in full. A prorated refund will be granted for medical refund requests received during or within one month of the program’s ending date. Refunds for outdoor camps will not be granted due to the following reasons: weather conditions, summer heat, sunburn, a camper’s behavior, absence from camp, or camp assignments. Parents are responsible for making sure children are registered in the correct camp program and session. If an error is found after registration, please call and have it corrected prior to the camp season.

To request a refund, please call the recreation facility where the program is offered, or the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 972-9417250. For outdoor camp refunds please contact the Outdoor Recreation Coordinator at 972-941-5403. Participants paying by credit card will have the refund amount credited to that credit card account. Courses cancelled by the Parks and Recreation Department due to low enrollment or other circumstances will result in one of the following: 1. the participant may register for another available course, or 2. the participant may have his/her money kept on account to use at a later date, or 3. the participant may request a full refund. *Refunds cannot be granted for non-recoverable costs on some programs and trips. For trips provided by outside travel agencies, the travel agency refund and cancellation policies will apply. Printed prices are subject to change without notice.

MAKE-UP POLICY Recreation Classes Plano Parks and Recreation is happy to accommodate make-ups for classes cancelled by the instructor or facility staff. The instructor will inform you of the day and time available for the make-up. If that day and time does not work with your schedule, or we are unable to accommodate a make-up, we will gladly refund you the amount paid for the cancelled class. We will also provide a refund for a class missed due to illness upon receipt of a doctor’s note within one month of the program’s ending date. For all other absences, a make-up or refund is not available. Aquatics Classes For classes cancelled by facility staff due to inclement weather or facility constraints, we will gladly refund you the amount paid for the cancelled class. Due to limited pool space and the Plano Parks and Recreation Department’s commitment to safety and quality instruction, make-ups for missed classes are not available.

INCLUSION POLICY Plano Parks and Recreation welcomes the participation of all individuals, including those with disabilities or special needs. We are committed to compliance with the ADA and providing reasonable accommodations to facilitate program participation. For participants with special circumstances who wish to participate in any traditional program, some accommodations may be available to provide inclusive experiences. Please contact us at 972-941-7327 or 972-941-7272 prior to registration, for details on how we can best support your abilities, interest and desire to participate. In addition to providing inclusion support in our traditional programs, we also offer programs specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.
