oosevelt was born on the beautiful island of Abaco on September 29, 1961. He was the sixth child of proud parents, Thomas and Annis Ewing-Butterfield. Roosevelt had a good childhood and was raised in a home that was filled with love and taught the foundation of family. He was always a very happy child who never hesitated to share that happiness and joy with all those whom he came in contact with, especially his family. His love for them was unmistakable, and they admired him greatly for his overwhelming optimism and ability to add life and laughter, even in the most challenging situations. He was such a selfless man who touched the lives of so many; always very supportive and never missed an opportunity to show up for those he loved.

As a young man, “Rose” as he was so affectionately called by those who knew him, felt the call of ministry on his life. He developed a passion for the Lord and never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ, which was at the foundation of his spiritual beliefs. This was also evident through his favorite song “Who’s Gonna Tell Them - Marvin Winans”.

Roosevelt successfully completed primary and secondary education on the island of New Providence. He then attended BTVI where he obtained his life skills in carpentry and construction. Equipped with skills in

these areas, Roosevelt excelled at major construction companies including Trico Construction, Cavalier Construction Company and Balfour Beatty Construction Company, where he worked for a number of years. He later became a successful entrepreneur in his field. He later expanded into the Restaurant & Hotel Industry, alongside Kim Butterfield, his loving and devoted wife of more than two decades.

Scripture states that “He who finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord– Proverbs 18:22 (NKJV). Roosevelt considered himself beyond blessed and highly favored when he found Kim, his lifelong partner, whom he married on July 1st, 2000. From the time they took their marriage vows, they were bound by their cords of commitment and love for each other. Even in death, those cords will never be broken.

Despite an abundance of love and happiness, life comes with challenges. Over the last few years, Roosevelt experienced a series of health challenges, and was diagnosed with stage 3 renal failure. Notwithstanding the diagnosis and dialysis treatments, he remained positive and continued to hope for healing. Along with hope, he developed an increased faith, believing that there was nothing impossible that God could not do. Unfortunately, Roosevelt’s health further deteriorated and on January 14, 2022, God called him home.

Graveside Hymn “Glad Reunion Day”

the Church of the Nazarene. Then he approached me and told me he would wait for me because I was too young. After attending church for a few months church he said I was ready for the relationship. I fell in love right away with that tall, slim, and handsome guy. We dated for years and fell in love. Tally always wanted the best. He always looked to do more, to accomplish more. In my younger years I was not allowed to go out so Tally and I would be on the phone for hours on end. I was also happy and always ready to go to church because I knew then I would have the chance to see him.

Tally always encouraged me to better myself. He wanted me to learn a trade. I enrolled in typing but found that I did not like it. He told me to try my hand at hairdressing, but I eventually got a job in the hotel industry and found that I loved interacting and catering to people. This later led to Tally and I starting our own business. We opened “The West Coast” and later “The Outback Restaurant and Hotel.” We worked for years to build the Outback Restaurant into a thriving and well-known business. The years seemed to fly by, and Tally had to eventually retire from the business because he became ill. Life slowed down for this once vibrant and happy-go-lucky man. Our marriage

If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane. I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken, No time to say “Goodbye”. You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness, and a river of secret tears still flow. What it meant to love you –No one will ever know my depth.

After Tally’s health declined, I took a joy caring for him. I would attend every doctor’s visit and stay in the office to keep his company. After his dialysis treatments on Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Saturday’s he would come to the restaurant to have breakfast and be served by his favorite waitress, me. On holidays and Sundays, we took pleasure in spending time at the beach by Nirvana sipping on daiquiris. When he would feel sick, he would call me at the restaurant, and I would drop everything to go and comfort him. I am happy that I had given my life to the Lord years ago as this taught me how to pray and I was able to minister and pray with my husband right up to his last days. He said lovingly “Kim there is nothing out there, I’ve done it all. There is only Jesus.” The next day Tally gave his life to the Lord. Tally, I will miss you. You were my alarm clock, waking me up five o’clock every morning so that we could pray before he went to dialysis, and he would call me to make sure I didn’t oversleep. Coming home now, I look on the front porch and you’re not there. I cannot believe that you’re gone but I am happy that you are with Jesus. I know that you will make sure the angels watch over and take care of me. My heart feels as if it’s broken in two and I can only count on time to heal it. Sleep on Tally.

But I know you would want me to move on; Remembering all the happy times we shared. You left me peaceful memories. Your love is still my guide, And though I cannot see you, You are always at my side.

So, since you’ll never be forgotten, I pledge to you today A hollowed place within my heart is where you’ll always stay.

TRIBUTE TO MY FAVORITE

It is with sadness that I write this tribute to you, Uncle Rose. You were a one in a million uncle. My Uncle Rose was humble, kind, caring and loving to all his nieces and nephews, especially to me his favorite niece!

Uncle you had a heart full of gold. I remember like yesterday how you would call me and ask if I was okay or needed anything. You always made sure I was straight, once you had it, I could get it. During my secondary school years, you made sure I maintained my GPA to avoid cut hip.

Rain or shine you made sure I had the best of everything! You were like a father figure to me; I will surely miss you and will always love you. You were my pillar of support with everything. Especially with Kevaughn’s wedding, graduation, and christening. You were there for every occasion and made sure everything was perfect. You were always around when needed. My sister and I, who you helped nurture, will really miss you and your honest fatherly advice.

TRIBUTE TO UncleTally

Your sudden passing came as a rude shock, and we did not expect it at all and wished we all had more time to appreciate you, but God and his infinite wisdom knows best. Uncle Rose, with tearful eyes I will always love you and miss you. God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the best. Rest in Peace my sweet Uncle Rose.

Although we can no longer see you with our eyes, or touch you with our hands, you will forever be in our hearts. Rest in peace “Uncle Tally”. We will take care of Auntie Kim for you. How we will miss sitting with you on the front porch and you giving us our treats. We know that you cared for us because at nighttime you would tell us that it was time to go inside and prepare for bed. it’s going to be hard to look over at your house and know that you won’t be coming back. We miss you already. Sleep on Uncle Tally, we love you.

Words of thanks seem so inadequate for all of the kindness that has been bestowed upon our family.
