A SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING & PRAISE FOR THE LIFE

SUNRISE: 11th December, 1992

SUNSET: 13th March, 2021

AGE:  28 years

SERVICE HELD AT: ST. MARGARET’S ANGLICAN CHURCH Nicoll’s Town, North Andros Andros, The Bahamas

SATURDAY, 17TH APRIL, 2021 AT 10:00 A.M.

OFFICIATING:

Reverend Father Whitfield Hutchinson

INTERMENT:

NICOLL’S TOWN PUBLIC CEMETERY Nicoll’s Town, North Andros Andros, The Bahamas

DIRECTING: East Sunrise Mortuary

The day was cool as this was the winter season but the joy could not be withheld as Iris Murphy welcomed the birth of a healthy, bouncing baby boy into this world on Friday the 11th day of December, 1992. She was more than happy to give him the name Nawal Darius. He was her world.

Just months into this world his mother Iris (Aris) took him to St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Nicoll’s Town, Andros where he was baptized and began his spiritual journey into the Anglican faith.

Nawal was a joy to his family. He was very inquisitive and always wanted to know what to do with this or how do you do that.

His life legacy began at the tender age of three years when he began his educational pursuits and attended the Little Darling Preschool Nicoll’s Town, and later at 5 years he enrolled at the Nicoll’s Town Primary School (now Clara E. Evans Primary) where he completed the sixth grade and then made his entrance into the North Andros High School from which he graduated in the year 2010.

Nawal was not fearful of anything. He was bold and daring and wanted to try everything. During his youth many times when his mother was looking for him, she would find him on the dock with the big boys diving into the deep water or on the rock fishing. He loved going in the boat with his grandfather and uncles on fishing trips. This is how he learned to become an excellent diver. He was a member of the Unity Junkanoo Group where he mastered the base Drum. He was an avid softball player and shared his talent for the game by playing with different teams in North Andros and Nassau. Because of his skills and confidence of the game he earned the prestigious MVP Award.

At the age of 22, he became the proud father of a son

whom he loved dearly and of course named him Nawal Jr. He enjoyed many special moments with his son, playing in the streets of the “coppit”, swimming at Morgan’s Bluff and Cedar Beaches, fishing, to the ball park and sometimes having lunch together at a restaurant. He also taught him the skills of beating the drums for Junkanoo.

As he grew from step to step and into another life of manhood, Nawal started to realize that there was more t life than just hanging around with the boys. He wanted more in life. He wanted to work and become independent. journey began with him working at odd jobs until the opportunity arose during the road construction project in North Andros and he secured a job with Apex Pavers Company Ltd. He loved his job. He was given the chance to drive the big dump trucks, something he was very excited about. However, being the aggressive person that he was, he always expressed to his mother that it was his desire that the time would soon come so that he can take up the challenge to drive a tractor and a trailer head. After the completion of the road work in North Andros he was selected by the company to be transferred to Nassau to continue his employment. There was no hesitation as he was always ready for the challenge that lies ahead. He held this job up to the time of his untimely demise.

He will be missed by all. His sheepish smile and “yes mam no man” demeanor... he was respectful to his elders. The streets of the “Coppit” will miss him.

RECEPTION OF THE BODY (All Stand).

Celebrant: With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the body of our brother Newell Darius for burial. Our brother was washed in Holy baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore, with confidence, pray to God our Heavenly Father, the Giver of life that He will raise him to perfection in the company of the Saints.

V: The Lord be with you.

R: And also with you.

V: Let us pray.

Celebrant: O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our brother Newell. We thank you for giving him to us, his family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

(The body is sprinkled and censed) The procession begins:

Jesus said, I am the resurrection, and I am the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and who ever lives and believes in me shall never die.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His compassion never fails: every morning they are renewed. Jesus said, let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.

I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the living. We brought nothing into the world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

Introit Hymn .............................................................................................................................................. “Hark My Soul”

Hark, my soul! It is the Lord, ‘Tis thy Saviour, hear His word; Jesus speaks, and speaks to thee

“Say, poor sinner, lov’st thou Me?

“I delivered thee when bound, And when wounded, healed thy wound; Sought thee wand’ring, set thee right, Turned thy darkness into light.

“Can a woman’s tender care Cease towards the child she bare? Yes, she may forgetful be, Yet will I remember thee.

“Mine is an unchanging love, Higher than the heights above; Deeper than the depths beneath, Free and faithful, strong as death.

“Thou shalt see My glory soon, When the work of grace is done, Partner of My throne shalt be; Say, poor sinner, lov’st thou Me?»

Lord, it is my chief complaint That my love is weak and faint; Yet I love Thee, and adore, Oh, for grace to love Thee more!

ORDER OF SERVICE

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.

V: And also with you.

Celebrant: Let us pray.

O God, who by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ destroyed death, and brought life and immortality to life: Grant that your servant Newell being raised with Him, may know the strength of His presence, and rejoice in his eternal glory; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever.

All: Amen.

The Ministry of the Word Wisdom 3:1-5, 9 Darnell Evans, President, Anglican Church Women

1 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them.

2 In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster,

3 and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace.

4 For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality.

5 Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself.

9 Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.

Psalm 23 To be read Responsively

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

3 He restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

Lavon Butler

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

Epistle Revelation 7:9-17

Emernique Smith (Cousin)

9 After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands.

10 They cried out in a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

12 singing, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?”

14 I said to him, “Sir, you are the one that knows.” Then he said to me, “These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.

16 They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat;

17 for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” The Word of the Lord.

Gradual Hymn “My Jesus I love Thee”

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine; For Thee all the follies of sin I resign; My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me, And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree; I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death, And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath; And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow, If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight, I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright; I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow, If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

Gospel John 14:1 - 6

1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.

4 And you know the way to the place where I am going.

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Gospel Response

Be still and know that I am God, Be still and know that I am God, Be still and know that I am God.

I am the Lord that healeth thee, I am the Lord that healeth thee, I am the Lord that healeth thee.

In thee O Lord, I put my trust, In thee O Lord, I put my trust, In thee O Lord, I put my trust.

“Be Still And Know”

President: Let us with confidence and hope confess the faith into which we were baptized, as we say:

All: I BELIEVE in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

The Intercessions

Leader: For our brother Nawal, let us pray to our Lord Jesus Christ who said, “I am Resurrection and I am Life.” Lord, you consoled Martha and Mary in their distress; draw near to us who mourn for Nawal and dry the tears of those who weep.

Hymn for The Commendation

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide

All Stand.

THE COMMENDATION

Celebrant: Give rest, O Christ, to your servant(s) with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. You only are immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so did you ordain when you created me, saying,” You are dust, and to dust you shall return.” All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Celebrant: Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Nawal Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

Let us go forth in the name of Christ.

All: Thanks be to God.

Recessional Hymn “It Is Well”

When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”

“Abide With Me”

The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide

When other helpers fail and comforts flee

Help of the helpless, oh abide with me

I need Thy presence every passing hour

What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?

Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be?

Through cloud and sunshine Lord abide with me

Hold thou Thy cross before my closing eyes

Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies

Heaven’s morning breaks and earth’s vain shadows flee In life, in death oh Lord abide with me

Refrain: It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control: that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain

My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! my sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Refrain

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain

GRAVESIDE HYMNS

IT’S ALRIGHT NOW

There was a time I traveled

A lonely sinful road

Beneath a heavy burden bending low

But now all things are different

For Jesus took my load

It’s alright now I’m His I know

Chorus:

It’s alright now

For I am in my Savior’s care

It’s alright now

My Savior hears and answers prayer

He’ll walk beside me

‘Til I climb the heav’nly stair

And ev’rything is alright now

A-down a lonely pathway

Without a friend to guide

I walked in sin and sorrow all alone

‘Til Jesus came and found me

And drew me to His side

It’s alright now for I’m His own (Repeat Chorus)

No more in sin I wander

No more in darkness roam

The Lord has placed

My feet on higher ground

Each day new heights I’m gaining

My soul is nearing home

It’s alright now I’m heaven bound

GLAD REUNION DAY

There will be a happy meeting in Heaven, I know

When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below

Gathered on that blessed hilltop with hearts all aglow

That will be a glad reunion day

Refrain

A glad day, a wonderful day

Glad day, a glorious day

There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay

That will be a glad reunion day

There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay

That will be a glad reunion day

When we live a million years in that wonderful place

Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face

It will seem but just a moment of praising God’s grace

That will be a glad reunion day (Refrain)

TRIBUTE TO MY SON

Nawal, you were my all and all. I thank God for 28 years. I can’t say that you went too soon because you were only on loan to me for a season. That loving smile, holding me close, the flowers on special occasions, the gifts or to just hear you in the morning talking about work and your plans. At the end of our conversations, you would always say, “I love you mam». I love you in life and I love you in death. Baby I love you but Jesus said its time to take my smiling angel home. Take your rest. I love you but Jesus loves you the best. Rest in Peace my son until we meet again.

TRIBUTE TO MY GRANDSON

LETTER

TO MY Daddy

Today, like many others days bring special memories and thoughts of you of the happy moments we shared. And once more, it’s a reminder that life’s road sometimes is so rough.

I remember our nights out during the crab seasons. You use to catch them like a pro. Sometimes three at a time. You were so excited to put them into your mother’s crab pen and said “we ga sell dem”. Morgan’s Bluff Dock and the front beach on da rocks they were our spots to get away and have our quiet time away from others. During those moments we talk about life and what job you wanted when you finished school. You were by my side whenever I was building a boat. You were so inquisitive and you thought that you could use the electric sander and chisel like a professional. You were always eager to learn. You wanted to try to do everything. No matter how dangerous it was. You were an adventurer. No matter the pain or disappointment you did it your way. Your determination was always above expectation.

Your excitement

and love for the sea was beyond measure. When we would go out in the fishing boat you couldn’t wait to dive down into the beautiful waters of Andros to come up with your catch of crawfish.

You were so special to me I felt so much love and warmth for you. We shared so many plans but God had other plans for you. He has taken you to a place where there will be no days and no years.

I love you Nawal but Jesus loves you the best. Sleep on my dear grandson. Take your well-deserved rest in peace. We will meet again someday. Love you.

Your granddaddy , BERTRAM

NAWAL D. MACKEY

From the moment we met I knew you were special. You charmed me with your beautiful smile and reeled me in with your amazing personality. I never stood a chance. Thank you for showing me your brand of love Nawal. With you I felt happy, excited for the future, loved, heard and beautiful. I showed you my heart and you showed me yours in return. What I saw was pure gold. I’ll miss our conversations, our time cooking together, our drives around the town with you singing to me and just being around you. Words cannot express my pain, but I’m holding fast to my memories of you. I will love you and miss you until I draw my last breath.

Loyally Yours, CHARESE
