





A TIME TO BORN: It was a beautiful Wednesday morning, October 28th, 1987, when the world stopped for only a second, or “so it seemed” when Michael Brown and Jestina Roberts (Maelean) welcomed their bundle of joy into the world. After careful consideration, they decided to name her Mikialhia Masika Brown. Although “Mickey” was the youngest of her sisters, she was always the leader amongst them.
EDUCATION: Mickey started her education at Head Start PreSchool. She later moved on to Stephen Dillet Primary followed by C.C. Sweeting Junior High and then graduated from the great C.R. Walker Senior High School in 2005. Mickey was an all-around student and was always so proud to be a “KNIGHT”.
WORK: As a child, Mickey became an entrepreneur because of her gifts, talents, and love for people. At the age of thirteen, Mickey ventured into the tattoo industry and somehow became an expert at her home and at school. She would put tattoos on her friends and family members for a small fee. Shortly after, Mickey worked in Millionaire Beauty Salon and Barbie’s during her summer breaks. Mickey never went to any sort of university, but she was a Barber, Hairstylist, Nail Technician, Sushi Chef, Baker, Cook, Comedian, Entertainer, Singer, Rapper, and even a Chatter. Her final gift was an Orthodontist, where she began putting braces into people’s mouths to give them a perfect smile. Mickey perfected every one of her gifts.
LOVE: Mickey loved her family openly. It was all about her siblings and her mother. However, at some point, she wanted to start her own family. This is when she met and fell in love with her best friend and soulmate, Ellysee (Funk) Edwards. They courted for a few years and was blessed with three beautiful children: Elyssa, Alyssa, and Prince Edwards. Shortly after they decided to tie the knot on Mickey’s birthday October 28th, 2017.
PERSONALITY: Mickey was a leader, she was confident, she had an infectious smile that lit up every room that she walked into. She spoke with authority, but in a joking way, her words were “HEY, HEY, HEY”. Her presence was always felt. Mickey was full of life! Always ready to help someone along the way. She never looked at what you had or where you came from. She would give you the clothes from her back if you were
in need. She would empty her cupboards and if that was not enough, she would give you her last dime. Everyone knew that the fun friend was always Mickey. If Funk was at work, she would say it’s “road time”. She was the life of the party, whether she was hosting it or attending it. She was the glue that kept the family together. She was a friend, a sister, a counselor, a confidant, and many others to all. She was loyal to the core when it came to people in her circle.
WORSHIP: Although Mickey was a fun and outgoing person, she loved the Lord. In 2015, she was invited by a friend (Marilyn) to visit a church. Marilyn never showed up but Funk and herself still attended New Unity House and Fellowship where Bishop Anthony and Prophetess Sharon Nairn are the overseers. Mickey and Funk went to services regularly with their children. Many times, Mickey would go by and sit and talk with the pastor all day having lunch and assisting where she could. She loved her pastor even though she did not attend as often as she would have wanted to. On days when she could not make it into the church, she would worship at home.
On Friday, March 11th, 2022, in the early morning Funk and Mickey were preparing to travel to Charlotte on the midday flight. The entire week before, she told her friends and family members that she was going away on Friday, not knowing that she was saying her final goodbyes. Just as they were leaving home to drop the kids at school and head to the airport, God’s plan for her life was much more superior than her own. Mickey was transported from home via ambulance to Princess Margaret Hospital where she remained until 3:36 pm when she transitioned from this earth to a better home.
